Spolier Alert: Ableton will be featuring this video on their website! Pretty exciting stuff. EDIT: Here is the link! www.ableton.com/en/blog/vocoder-not-just-for-vocals/ EDIT 2: Thanks so much for all your kind comments. More videos are coming!
Damn that last tip with the arped randomized pitches is seriously next level. manually automating interesting/coherent filter band modulation is so tedious, and this is the antidote! I also just love the concept of converting oscillator pitches into filter bands, it's so elegant. Like you could modulate a melody or bassline with an outtake harmony or something. You could prob fatten the randomized sound up even more by adding octaves or fifths in the other oscillators, or create wobbles with glide/pitch modulation. Gonna have to try that...
6 Years late to this since I rewarded Ableton Live Suite to myself for achieving life goals. Music is a reward in itself. Your tutorials have helped tremendously. Myriad thanks!
On my channel, I really only try to cover material that is not covered elsewhere on TH-cam. I've sat through a few of your videos in the last couple hours, and your content is very unique, which is rare. It is in this spirit that I say.. Thank you. :)
Good job mate, Ableton Vocoder is one effect I rarely use. After watching this I’m definitely going to dive deeper into what it can do, I may do a tut myself with a vocoder on pads, using a square wave as the modulator gave the sound a nice rounded feel, would be great for pads, thanks again 👍
Clear and concise. Explaining each function. Why can't all tutorials be this way? Especially with it being mainly experimenting I didn't get lost in random knob twiddling. Thanks Evan.
ohhh man its 2020 i have seen a lot of tutorials..i will watch this as many times as needed to get everything out you just did.best tutorial hands down..
In the past, I've used the vocoder to have a percussive chord instrument. I routed the chords into the vocoder, and had the modulator as a drumbeat. It makes this cool sound that I've called the Vocodrum
You're so eloquent when you're explaining this, it's clear that you really understand the subject matter, and it's inspirational. I enjoyed this tutorial so much. I'm jealous of your knowledge. You make it look so damn easy! Keep making these :) ps: Always helps hearing someone explain in good plain Aussie that I can understand ^_^
I must say, after catching the Mcompressor trick on the other video. It has been gamechanger for me. Take the bass, and saturate all the mids and leave all the good beefyness of the sub.
love the way you explain and explore things as always, brutha! it's always a rarity when someone who does something extremely well can also be just as apt with teaching it...! cheers!
Great Tutorial,...so sweet to see somebody just using Ableton stock and create amazing stuff like the expensive plugins do. I am definetly gonna check out more videos on your channel. Thanx man!!
"It just generally, enhances the sound...", brilliant, 😅😂🤣...wicked tut by the way, you nailed that basic vocoder sound from the very get go...I have wasted my time with 3rd party VC plugins, should have been messing with Lives built-ins...thanks for the info! (Now I will watch the rest of the vid...only 1:55 in...lol)🥇🎯
Top 10 UNBELIEVABLE Vocoder Lifehacks That Ableton Wanted To Keep Secret. *thumbnail with red circle, red arrow, girls ass and my shocked face and these emojis 😲 💯 🍆😂 * Am I doing youtube right?
Slynk lol that would've been the clickbait that sent this one skyrocketing, but dude I've watched you before when I first got started and I'm back here again. I've been missing out and I'm so glad I am here. I'm going to run through your videos. When is the next pimp my track?
SLYNK!!! Thanx for the extremely informative and detailed instructional. I like your laid back, easy to follow instruction style. You made sure to cover the tid-bits that most instructors fly past. Great Soundz as well!!!!
i've seen a lot of your videos and i really don't know why didn't it occur to me to subscribe to you. man i've been thinking about the vocoder and how to do that for so much time and you just appear on my feed with that. thank youuuuuu also subscribed rn
Great video. Clear explanation and interesting experimentation. Totally agree with the philosophy of "just play around with it." I've learned so much from just playing and messing around.

This might also be an application where modulating vocoder's attack and release times could really shine
+Josh Hubert oh! Some really cool ideas on this comment! I never thought to pitch bend. Adding 5ths would be easy with a chords midi effect.
thanks for incepting them in my mind lol!
All of these products deserve their moment in the spotlight. Thank you.

Not lying, the best tutorial I've ever seen!!!👊🏽👊🏽👊🏽
I'd totally put a scale device after the random arp just to keep the tones harmonics in check with the track.
