yes and no. Part of it was just them going at it. Part of it was choreographed on the spot. They talked about what they wanted to do and perpahs rehearsing a couple times for a few moves that absolutely needs coordination. Otherwise Donnie would just say "I am gonna do this and you will do that" and they just went for it. They will look at the footage and see if anything has to be changed. There is actually an hour long behind the scene clip on youtube.
I mean, Donnie Yen was the action director. It's usually best to let people who understand action in the first place to take care of the action part. They know what angles to shoot and what sequences make the most convincing action possible.
Most of the entire fight was unscripted between Yen and Jing, who actually trained together. They did this fight because they knew each other so well and they (somewhat jokingly) wanted to see who could hit the other first. Yen even broke three batons on Jing's arm while shooting this fight.
Yes! I'd love to see more reaction videos centered around fight scenes with stunt people from the industry discussing this stuff. Amy Johnston is the best! It's great getting that perspective. This is my jam. Amy was right. If you watch the behind the scenes for Killzone, you can see Donnie Yen and Wu Jing figure out the choreography for this fight. They work out what's choreographed and what's improv in the scene and it's fascinating to watch. I would recommend checking that out some time. This is one of my favorite reaction vids and I hope to see more like this in the future.
I read how this was all shot in one night, since Donnie Yen and Wu Jing have sparred a lot before, so it was easy for them to adapt to each other’s movements
Donnie Yen is, for me, the closest we have of Bruce Lee's style nowadays. Though I love some other Martial Arts actors such as Tony Jaa (his Muay Thai is superb), Max Zhang (aka Zhang Jin) PS: The actor who made Saruman was Sir Christopher Lee, one of the most relevant English actors. He served during WWII and he surely knows by experience by seeing in person many people die, fellow soldiers and enemies.
SPL has a very good story too...on-bar with lots of the standard Hollywood movies such as black panther. it is really not just about the fight scene. But I do agree that not many actors or actresses can actually pull off this kind of fight scene within a limited time period.
fun fact did you know what they’re doing is real thing, he’s really that fast in real life, there was times were donnie was so fast that the guy couldnt fully keep up while they they were filming and got clipped here & there!
Hollywood action, specifically martial arts, has evolved a lot. The Matrix and Bourne Identity had a lot to do with that. However I would argue that the Bourne Identity did martial arts on film, a disservice. It’s all close up shots, quick edit cuts, actor inserts, far/wide/behind shots of the stuntmen, shaky cam, 1 to 3 martial movements per shot, among various other methods to hide the fact that the actors have limited martial skill level and the fight choreography can appear more complex than it actually is. So many movies and tv shows today have exploited this method to the extent that martial arts action has gotten repetitive, boring and without drama. Thats why the John Wick films are so unique - they have amazing martial arts, stunt work and camera work, because Chad Stahelski is a martial artist and has analysed and admired HK & Asian action cinema, which is just an absolutely different level. Same with Scott Adkins, Michael J White, Amy Johnston - the fight choreography in their movies have move sets that are 5 - 10 movements per camera shot and both combatants are clearly in frame. Of course early HK Shaw Bros films they would do 10 - 20 movements per camera shot. As Chad says it’s all because of Bruce Lee inspiring action cinema, he made fight choreography dramatic, through rhythm of the action, camera shots, charisma, grace & skill of the performers.
You swap the weapons for household items, the fighting choreography is basically what every teacher (round 1) & parent (round 2) would happen to you if you don't bring back the A's on your report cards as an Asian kid.
1:23 This movie was out in 2005, K-pop's still not a huge big hit. Pls don't say : " Donnie, very "K-pop look", Try to say : "K-pop star nowadays looks like 19 yrs ago's Donnie".
in the Kung fu killer with Donnie Yen they could not find good actors who can act really good and they are martial arts masters so they have tough time finding actors with that quality.
His best best fight scene is in flash point. In dat film donnie really utilize his mma skills. Hes skill in that is fully mma. Youd love watching that.
Hey guys, I hate to interrupt but gotta comment here to tell you the truth and comment on this movie KillZone was released on November 18, 2005 and Captain America Winter Soldier was released on March 13, 2014 means gotta admit Winter Soldier was followed their foot-step of martial art not vice versa as I overheard you did said this movie KillZone followed Winter Soldier style
Actually you're wrong, that fight was done in a night, there's a making of that fight. Jackie Chan takes a long time but not Donnie Yen. Also the Matrix fights were done by the Chinese director.
Amy looks so worried, as she died nastier than in an accident man movie. Guys, please react to accident man movie, especially with Amy and Scott fight.
This scene feel a lot different if we watch the movie from the beginning. At this point we hated wu jing wu jing"s character so much and feel very happy each time he got hit by donnie.
i dont feel bad at all. He killed all simon yam's friend like it was nothing. ( i dont remember Donnie killed his father.. can u refresh my memory..i remember Donnie punch a guy and turned him to a retard though..)
U guys dont know, Amy has been played as harley quinn before, god damn she was so hot, sexy and cute back there, shame hollywood doesnt take her as this character.
Rather than really enjoying and focusing on an awesome fight, they kept running their damn mouth without paying any attention on their incredible skills. What a big distraction! I wouldn’t want to watch with them with this fight scene. I simply keep quiet and watching the fight. There is no reason for kept talking during a fight scene like that.
Have you guys reacted to the final fight scene (and post-credit shots) from the Thai movie, Chocolate (2008)? It's a decade old, but still one of the best choreographed fight sequences in a long while, for me.
do react on some vojpuri video also ...they were one of the most entertaining and funny part of indian industry..you will love it definitely ...one of my favorite is "chalakata hamro jawaniya" song video...😉😉😊🙆🙆
I'm sorry I don't agree Chris j Alex hollywood is all like that because they can afford to CGI or speed up things.. As a purist it's just lazy movie making it doesn't promote the Moto of hardworking but promotes being rich is the secret of success.. you should understand if these people had half of hollywood budget they would make masterpieces.. You want an amazing script watch Lucia...
This wasn’t choreographed. They just did their freestyle
No,just part of it was freestyle, like may be 45second clip
yes and no. Part of it was just them going at it. Part of it was choreographed on the spot. This scene is so great because it was not choreographed by other people, but decided on set by the actors. Actors with amazing martial art skills.
I mean, Donnie Yen was the action director. It's usually best to let people who understand action in the first place to take care of the action part. They know what angles to shoot and what sequences make the most convincing action possible.
According to Donnie they sparred.
This scene easily go down as one of the most mesmerising fight scene in the entire cinema history
Most of the entire fight was unscripted between Yen and Jing, who actually trained together. They did this fight because they knew each other so well and they (somewhat jokingly) wanted to see who could hit the other first. Yen even broke three batons on Jing's arm while shooting this fight.
Love this film. Sammo Hung was awesome as the main villain. Wu Jings character was ace also. Good video and great seeing Amy on there.
donnie yen is a legend ♥
Yes! I'd love to see more reaction videos centered around fight scenes with stunt people from the industry discussing this stuff. Amy Johnston is the best! It's great getting that perspective. This is my jam.

I’m glad Amy said “before Winter Soldier” about the combat knife move
That's why I love Chinese flim.....awesome action awesome technic....😘😘😍
This is Hong Kong movie
Adam Cheung yea genius mission impossible is not American movie is Hollywood movie
hong kong movie
Adam Cheung Hongkong movie is included in Chinese movie and Wu Jing is from Beijing. And not all the good martial arts movies were from hongkong.
@@adamcheung8323 idiot,how old are u? 3? 5?
The best and the most professional reactions of killzone.

I agree to that

Enjoyed the commentary and scene discussions on this very much. Reminds me of your earlier videos from a year or 2 back.
Probably one of the best fight scene in action movie history.
fun fact did you know what they’re doing is real thing, he’s really that fast in real life, there was times were donnie was so fast that the guy couldnt fully keep up while they they were filming and got clipped here & there!

It seems natural fast fight. Wonderful choreography movie
You swap the weapons for household items, the fighting choreography is basically what every teacher (round 1) & parent (round 2) would happen to you if you don't bring back the A's on your report cards as an Asian kid.
The black guy is very insightful in giving every pov
And that was Wu Jing, one of the biggest directors now in china bcs of wolf warriors
This scene took place after donned yen lost all his partners from wu jing single handedly killed with a knife.
Yeessssss my favorite Donnie yen fight scene
1:23 This movie was out in 2005, K-pop's still not a huge big hit.
Pls don't say : "
Donnie, very "K-pop look",
Try to say : "K-pop star nowadays looks like 19 yrs ago's Donnie".
Amy is so talented, she needs to be in more big-budget movies, beautiful, fast, I love her movies.
Nice edit, Achara! :)
in the Kung fu killer with Donnie Yen they could not find good actors who can act really good and they are martial arts masters so they have tough time finding actors with that quality.

I wouldn’t want to watch with them with this fight scene. I simply keep quiet and watching the fight. There is no reason for kept talking during a fight scene like that.
