  • In this video, I will demonstrate how to check Isuzu Anti-lock Brake System trouble codes yourself for free by using a jumper wire in the vehicle's OBD-II port. This method should work for all Isuzu vehicles 1996 and later.
    I am not a professional mechanic, and my videos are not intended to offer professional advice. Always reference your vehicle's service manual for official information, and please do not attempt any repair that you are not comfortable doing.
    Thanks for watching!

    Yes, after getting the code from your procedure, it points to an internal fault in the electric side of the ABS control unit. I removed it (vehicle still operates fine without the electronic part) and am sending it in for repair ($160). When it comes back I should be able to put it back on and have the ABS operating again. Will let you know. Thanks again.

    this video is very helpful , i have isuzu rodeo 1998 2 WD and i'm ready to try it .
    btw what was wrong with your abs ? did you end up replacing the sensors?
    i have problems with transmissions too and I change the the solenoids it work

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Saadymodenation I'm glad you found this helpful! I believe my issue is caused by a bad wheel speed sensor; they are incredibly expensive, and since the transmission also needs to be rebuilt, I am not going to replace the wheel speed sensor. I actually purchased another '02 Trooper that needs an engine, but is in otherwise great condition, so I'm hoping to swap in the engine from the other Trooper.
      I'm glad you were able to get your transmission working! Great job!

    thanks I've heard of this method and suspect corrosion at connectors on my 01 trooper i believe abs unit/harness is the issue so far I'm having trouble disconnecting harness, now I should be able to diagnose first. I can see some corrosion at the pins

  • @marthastewart1976
    @marthastewart1976 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you ever find out what the problem was?
    My 2000 Isuzu Trooper seems like it's having all 3 similar problems at once and I'm wondering of these are real issues or something electronic. Like a sensor or a PCM issue.
    Aside from the brakes, you said you had an EGR issue, a transmission problem, and the ABS problem. Mine's showing an EGR code (P0405), a transmission code (P1870), and the ABS light, according to this video is on for a code 43.
    I've been driving my car for over 8 months with the check trans light and it's working fine. For the EGR code, I applied voltage to the EGR and the pintle was responding. Cleaned it. Same error. Just replaced the EGR. Waiting to see if that fixes it. The ABS light came on after a brake job. They checked it out and couldn't figure it out. It finally went away, but they had no good explanation. Just that they disassembled and reassembled the brake. And it disappeared for a while. Not it's coming back intermittently with a code 43.
    So I'm wondering if perhaps something electronic (like bad onboard computer) is failing and causing it to throw bogus codes. Because our two incidents sound like a very similar trio of issues.
    And by the way, thank you for the video!

    • @mattpayne4087
      @mattpayne4087  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My issues definitely seem to be real, rather than the result of a bad PCM...though that's not to say your issues couldn't be computer-related. I bought this vehicle knowing it had transmission problems, and when I drained the transmission fluid, I could tell the clutches were toast. The fluid was nasty and had "sparkly" material in it....not a good sign. Furthermore, I believe I have a bad wheel speed sensor which is causing my ABS issue. The EGR code is probably wiring-related, but I'm not going to spend the time to troubleshoot it since I never plan to repair this vehicle. Instead, I plan to remove the engine and install it in another 2001 Trooper that I purchased with a bad engine.
      I would definitely check your transmission fluid level and condition to see what it looks like. Or, it may not be a bad idea to take it to a reputable transmission shop to see if there are transmission-related codes that won't show up on a regular OBD-II scanner. These transmissions are the weak point in these vehicles, so I wouldn't want to push it if you really do have a transmission-related issue.
      Good luck - I hope you get it all sorted out!

    +Matt Payne As a new widow, thank you for helping me keep my '01 Rodeo LS running, reliably and cheaply. Attempting oil and fuel filter changes, adding brush guard, tow receiver and brake light wiring. Found vids on those. Q1. There's a small ready plug/connector attached (looks factory) to the driver side frame where tow receiver bolts on. Does this mean I don't need T-Connector wiring harness that connects to both brake lights? That I only need wiring from existing plug out to the trailer (flat 4)? Q2. Fog lights: There's a ready plug inches from each "dummy" (plastic covering fog light hole). To add real fog lights, is it as simple as attaching the bracket and light assemblies then plug in pig tail n plug in switch in dash? Q3. Can you do or recommend a video on converting headlights to LED and also diy modernizing stereo/speakers? Thanks

      Rachel, are you referring to the check engine light, or the ABS light? I am not aware of a method to read Diagnostic Trouble Codes via flashing the check engine light. I believe this is only possible for the ABS system and the TOD (Torque On Demand) System.

      If I were you I would disconnect the harness on the back of the winter/ power drive selector switch. Winter drive makes your vehicle start off in 3rd gear to help keep you from spinning wherls on the snow & ive on take off , but constant driving with this on eventually leads to 3rd gear clutch pack failure. After the trans burned up in my green 2001 rodeo i had the trans rebuilt and disconnected the switch. I have had 3 rodeos
