I went from a 99 Miata to a 2022 WRX Premium specced basically exactly like yours, I've only had it for 2 months. It was an R title I found with only 6,500 miles on it for $24k; basically a new car. It was salvaged because it was rear-ended and went over a curb during the parts shortage, so the insurance company decided to ditch it. Fortunately, all it needed was a new rear bumper and the rear trunk straightened out, and it was practically brand-new (that price was part of the $24k). I've never owned such a nice vehicle, I agree that I love how spartan the tech is. The manual isn't as snappy as the miata's, but it's definitely fun. I already put an ETS intake on it and did a tune XD it's a marvelous car, I appreciate your down-to-earth review.
I hate the huge touch panel center, so the analog speedometer/tach is a major plus. It's like a consolation prize. I'm glad that a gadget reviewer like you realizes that not everything has to be an iPad.
I have a '22 Premium and agree with a lot of your points. I don't drive it daily- just when I want to drive a manual. I also dislike the screen. If rather have buttons, switches and guages. The base stereo is horrible so I replaced all 6 speakers and now it acceptable. The car is easy to work on and fun to drive. Affordable. The '22 is pretty low tech. No Eyesite or other electronic nannys like the '24s+ have.
I have a 2022 wrx without any problems until today, and happy with my car, it's everything you say, reliable, fun and safe, for me it's a baby GTR. It's 100% worth it, I live in Chicago and on snowy days I'm not worried about going out in my car, on the contrary, I only think about how fun it will be to drive it.
Have the upgraded rims changed the way it handles any? I have been looking at upgrading the rims the next time I need tires, but I heard that the +20mm offset you get for a flush look can change the driving dynamics.
I have the 23 Prius and want to trade it for the WRX. I was deciding between the 2 from the start. The more I learned about this car, the more I loved it! Buyers remorse, lol. That said, the dealer is giving me a sick offer. I just need to accept the horrendous gas and gas cost.
🤣 From a Prius to a WRX. That's not something you see every day lol! That's awesome! The WRX will hurt with the gas mileage, but it's so much fun. I switched from a broken down Fiesta ST (was getting 32mpgs with a big turbo). Some days I miss that little go-kart, but I always wanted a WRX. Subie wave 👋
@@Everyday_Legends subaru wrx and gr corollas are my dream cars! Even if I can afford one in 5 years Im going to buy my dream car! I have a 2009 ford focus se 2 door car just upgraded to something more powerful to a 2011 mazda 6 gs so I get used to that power and I will be ready for the subaru wrx! I liked the hyundai veloster n because it had 3 doors but awd in canada is much needed with the snow and summer weather it makes it a great commuter and it is very reliable! Hope I can get this dream car!
I just got a 24 Crosstrek Wilderness and traded in my 17 Prius. I have the same gas mileage shock. Luckily the capabilities of Subarus make up for it. Absolutely crushes snow like it's nothing. Makes me totally forgive it for drinking more heavily. Lol
Good vid thanks. I have 23 Premium. Like it more than 13 Limited WRX & 15 Mustang GT that I had. Must have mods are upgraded brake pads (EBC Red), exhaust (I got Revel (Tanebe) Medallion), tinted windows, & oil catch can. Also good: Speaker upgrades, JBL BassPro Nano subwoofer (behind seat), & 20mm wheel spacers. Shifter is easily improved w/ a few parts (shifter stop/guide, STI pitch stop & transmission mount, trans cross member and rear diff bushings). Mine is also protuned, but I’m older and have money to take that risk.
I'll have to look into the shifter upgrades. I came from a Fiesta ST and while I loved it, the WRX is better in every way. That is, if I ignore the gas mileage 😂 Subie wave 👋
@@Everyday_LegendsI’m averaging 26-27 mpg in mixed driving (75% hwy) and 32 mpg on long hwy trips going 70 mph. This is several mpg more than the 2013 WRX that I used to have and not bad IMO given 340 whp and AWD.
I have been looking at getting the Perrin 20mm wheel spacers; have you noticed any change in the driving dynamics of the car? I heard from forum-crawlers that the wider stance can make the car feel different.
I notice no change in dynamics. Full story: Originally got 15mm spacers but they don’t fit (wheel studs hit inside wheel such that wheel doesn’t fully mount). So I ended up w/ 20mm rear & 12mm front (the fronts need less spacer and I felt 20mm was too much). The fronts are Eibach and require 12mm longer wheel studs. Easy install though.
Ive been leaning more and more into this being my next car. I dont plan on tracking or anything, just want a fun daily that wont kill my bank account. and with alot of 22's and 23's being affordable rn, i bet they'll be even more affordable by the time im ready for it. that screen makes me wanna die tho lmao
I drive it about to work and back (total 1.5-2 hrs of driving) and I love it. I wish it was better with gas, but the second it rains like crazy here in Florida, I love that AWD. Find a good deal! There are always VB WRXs in the lots around me. 😎
most dealerships at least in socal are charging below mrsp. if you shop around you can pretty easily get $4-5k off. also subaru has a 0-1% apr promo right now.
not for everyone. Got bored of my 2023 WRX in like 3 months, traded for a GR86. Such a more engaging car. WRX handling feels like a crossover, not a sports sedan. I really wanted to like it :(
Wow! You guys are getting steals! I got mine after everyone hated the redesign and the lots were full of them. Was around $32K out the door. Subie wave 👋
Wow, I was at the dealership on November 1st and all WRXs were at least a few thousand off MSRP with lots of addons at 1.9%. The ugly orange ones aren’t moving at all and they still have a brand new 2022 in orange. The dealership was even throwing in paint matching for the ugly plastic cladding. The rear taillights are what totally kills it as an option for me, I can fix everything else but the Civic taillights are shit.
The Acura is a great car. I regret not adding that to the comparison, but it was out of my price range. Hope you go for the subie! 😎 Thanks for watching
I wanted to buy new because of how WRX drivers tend to be lol but the year I get wifey permission, they stop making the STI 😞 the VB has grown on me, but yeah, the VA is overall better looking. VB drives a whole lot better though. I wish I had the EJ rumble!
I love subarus, my family has had them for years. Currently I’ve got an ‘06 Legacy wagon in manual I’m going to try and swap a Hemi or LS into. I want it to be a full GTA style wagon and make it all unassuming
Legacy Wagon manual! Ay the jealousy I have rn haha. These things are so great! There's someone who drives one around me with an STI engine swap and I melt when I hear that classic EJ rumble. Subie wave 👋
If theres palm trees where you live why were you so adamant on getting awd? Tbh for that price Elantra N would be a much better value and faster/fun to drive car with better interior.
Had plans to move to either Washington or Denver for work at the time of purchase. It didn't work out, so at least the AWD is great in the Florida rain 😎
I live in FL. I once arrived at a marina to go out boating. Marina parking lot was full so I parked my fwd car on the grass. It was more like grass AND sand. I had an embarrassing moment trying to exit because the car was getting stuck in its place. I knew what to do, and got it out. The whole ordeal must’ve lasted ten seconds. I swore to get awd daily drivers since then. That was ridiculous.
Subaru should have done themselves a favor and installed all group-n mounts in the catalog onto the car at assembly time. it would save owners a lot of hassle down the road. If the group-n stuff wasn't stiff enough, then they could go harder w/aftermarket pieces. (Subaru dropping the ball yet again). 😠 The Elantra-N w/some snow tires is a winter slayer.
I just bought this car and now my wife won’t sleep with me. Thoughts?
Ummm 🤣
New wife. Happy life.
Just bought a 2024 wrx for 30k… people complain about the price but it’s still the cheapest most reliable sports car that’s AWD!

I use 87 octane in mine. 50k miles, no issues. It has an ERM in it to modulate ignition. It's fine as long as you aren't hammering a cold engine.

TLX type S will go down as one the greats. It’s very underrated and it does everything the Honda accord wish it could be so yea get tlx type S
The thing that is the most bothersome to me about this car.... the Outback XT has essentially the same 0-60... lol

0% apr at my local subaru buuut... I'd honestly rather spend an extra 15k vs. getting the $45k TS and just get an Audi RS3
$45K for the TS is insane. I love my manual transmissions, but yeah RS3 without a doubt.
when you can get a S5 / RS5 / RS3 / C63 AMG for the same price range, it's very confusing to see why anyone would go with a WRX.
Those cars are not under 40k. A new S5 is approaching 60k. If someone is looking into these, they're not looking at a WRX and vice versa.
