I love watching and rewatching Mrs. Phyllis' videos.. makes me feel like she's still here. May the Good Lord rest her and Mr. Bucky's souls in paradise, in His everlasting peace.
I’m so sorry to hear this woman is gone. I was just about to post a comment that she so reminds me of one of my good Texas friends mama. I’m lookin forward to watching some more of her videos.
I miss 😢 Miss Phyllis and Mr Bucky too. I also miss the dogs. I watch these videos all the time just to see how happy they were together in their life. What a couple.
I was a cook in a restaurant for many years. Fridays were all you can eat catfish night. I would have to make at least two hundred hush puppies. I dipped my spoon into the hot grease before the hushpuppy mix . They would just slide off the spoon and I didn't have to use my finger. Try putting onion and finely chopped green pepper in it sometime. You will love it. And I love ordering from Amazon. It has really been a blessing to me.
Great tip on how to get the hush puppy batter to fall into the grease. I will definitely be using your way next time instead of using my finger. I like the onion and bell pepper idea too.
Phyllis saved my dinner again. I want to shout out to her son for keeping her videos up so we all can keep loving her recipes. Thank you and hope everyone has a blessed evening 💞
Phyllis, l learned from my mother to dip my spoon into a cup of water in between each hushpuppy, and drop them into the pan/cooker. Works like a charm! ♥️♥️♥️
The best hush puppies that I ever had were in a restaurant owned by the TV show Duck Dynasty they have a restaurant in Monroe Louisiana their food is outstanding and now you showed us your recipe this looks great I will make this and enjoy them thank you once again!!!🦁
Hi Phyllis. We had a big fish fry about a month and a half ago and I made a huge platter of hush puppies. Every time I would put a batch on the tray fresh out of the fryer they would disappear. I thought I would never get enough done. lol My grandmother always made these after we would go fishing along with the days catch. Great memories. I make them just like yours. :)
Sounds good to me tonight when I curl up tonight under the covers to watch tv . 27 degrees outside right now and it is going lower . Love and hugs and a restful goodnight .
Phyllis- I love good hushpuppies, but I didn't realize in S.C. that hushpuppies are served with BBQ. However fish dinners yes I have. I use to work in a fish lodge for many years as a weekend job. We had some of the best hushpuppies around. I could just even sample the batter it was so good. I live over in Northeastern GA!!!!
Love your videos, Phyllis. Just a small tip. You might try using two spoons, one to scrap off the dough, instead of using your finger. Might keep grease from splashing in you.
I put my Fry Daddy on a 10.5 inch round cast iron griddle. Saved me a huge mess once when I reconstituted some dried hash browns and tried to deep fry too many in the Fry Daddy. Oil boiled up out of the Fry Daddy and into the griddle.
The story I heard, as a child as to why they are called hush puppies was that the dogs could smell them cooking and they would gather round and start whining. To quiet them the cook would throw them a piece of fried dough saying, Hush Puppy.
I just made these hush puppies and they came out delicious. But I had to put 1 1/4 cups of corn meal because they would not thicken up. Next time I will try to make them with onion because they might come out a little moister
If you dip your spoon in the fryer before you scoop the batter each time you won't have to use your finger and risk the oil popping on you. It really works. Oh yeah, butter is good with them but if you add some honey to the butter it's even better. If I'm having them with seafood I like tartan sauce. They looked yummy and sounders crispy.
About 25 years ago in Alabama, the old ones would crush a few hushpuppies up in buttermilk and drink it. My favorite dip is white sauce, a favorite mayo based sauce used on bbq in northern Alabama.
Your comment about hush puppies crumbled in buttermilk took me waaaay back when I was 4 - 5 years old.... my sweet mother would always crumble some of her homemade cast iron yellow cornbread into a tall non-glass therapy type of glass, then pour real buttermilk in it. She used a spoon to eat it. She was from the hills of very south east Kentucky. She'd make a small version for me. Sadly, I never really cared for it. However, I did try to spoon out the cornbread. ✅
This is just the recipe I was looking for. Delicious! PS I Love Amazon and also I’ve had my fry baby for I want to say at least 15 years and it’s still going strong🤓
As you might guess I freeze the hush puppies since it's just the two of us now. I would put them in the refrigerator after the meal and freeze what will not be used in a few days.
I would buy a head of corn, not canned, then shave the corn into the set batter. Probably add another teaspoon of sugar, then chop some Vidalia or Mexican sweet onion and saute in a little butter till brown and add that in as well..
It’s difficult to even find self rising flour in Minnesota, let alone self rising cornmeal. I will try to find it. I’m wondering if Southerners are better bakers then nor us Northerners. The self rising really does make a difference for biscuits! I just tried the White Lily self rising flour I ordered on Amazon, and it was awesome, but very expensive. Regarding AmazonSeller’s being required to pay half the shipping, I am not sure about that. I am a reseller and we can choose to do free shipping on Amazon or set our own shipping rate. I choose a flat rate of $4.49 for everything I sell. Those sellers who do free shipping raise their prices, so basically the shipping is included in the price of the item. It’s best to just compare whoever has the lowest price and go with that. I do use Amazon prime for my purchases and love it. I still buy from private sellers if the price is better than Amazon prime. I always check to make sure they have good feedback. I’ve been selling on eBay and Amazon for about 15 years.
Have you ever heard of hushpuppy gravy? Had it back as a kid in a local restaurant back in the 70's and it was the best! Had sort of a chicken taste but not over bearing. Was just wondering if you had that recipe. Ps. Thanks for sharing your cooking tips about frying.
Walmart sells the fry daddys to . without the $ 6 .00-7.00 shipping and handling . n ow things I cant get locally I do buy on Amazon .I love shopping with amazon .
You can purchase a "Fry Daddy" from Walmart the 4 cup is $23.82 and the 6 cup is $32.49. They can be purchased in the store or on line they are made by Presto. You could probably find them on Amazon also.
Sales tax in Atlanta is 8.5% but in Marietta 39 miles north of Atlanta it's 6% sales tax but we have different tax rates depending on what you purchase, hotels have different tax, food or non food, entertainment etc..
They also add sales tax to our orders too and we live in S.C. I think they have to collect the sales tax if they have a location in the state, we have a big Amazon distribution center about 30 minutes from our home.
Yes I'm aware if they a brick and mortar in the state then yes they would have to but I've never known for them to have one here, I guess they may have I will have to investigate this....thanks a lot and keep the videos coming, I just love them!
awesome reciepe as usually we have corn fritters here in maine but hush puppies are awesome too.....i have got a serious question,,,and im not being a smartie about it......but since you cook..i figured you would know....what vegetables do you extract the oil from to make the veggie oil? how do they get oil from avacados? to make avacado oil??????
Here in Mississippi.. sales tax is .09€. NINE CENTS !! Ohio where our kids live. -0- sales tax.. and i over crowd my hush puppies soo yep i do get oil pups and ive always hated that. Now i know. Thank you .!!)
I had a problem with the cinnamon rolls.. I used the exact of ingredients but the dough was still very wet so I added about another cup of flour and that really didn't help. I went ahead and let it rise in the oven and it did double nicely but was still way too sticky. Not sure what to do when this happens,
Double check your ingredients, it's very easy to miss measure when making a recipe. This very thing has happened to me when making French bread because of the number of cups of flour it took to make two loaves.
I probably should wait till the end of the video, do you dip your hush puppies into any yummy sauce? Hey, I live way up north in the Pacific Northwest, up at the Canadian boarder. I have to be taught on such things lol🦋💜
I love love love hushpuppies but I would use a little grated onion. last time I made them they were ok but not great. I don't know what I did incorrectly. now I buy Savannah brand and put in the oven to crisp up. then my house doesn't smell like oil too.

Sounds good to me tonight when I curl up tonight under the covers to watch tv . 27 degrees outside right now and it is going lower . Love and hugs and a restful goodnight .
I also like to put chopped onions or green onions and sometimes jalapenos.
I had hush puppies one time and have been dying for some ever since. Will definitely look up you recipe.
I like to put whole sweet corn in mine. these look really good.
She has such a lovely speaking voice,

Quick, easy, and tasty, I like the ones made with onion :)

Sometimes onion, sometimes not - either way they are good.
See 6:39
Never made huspuppies nor have I heard of self rising corn meal. Learn something new.lopks good.
Love onion and fresh sweet corn in my fritters.
Thank you for the recipe, Phyllis. An ice lolly stick would save your fingers, I would burn mine I am sure. lol.
Those look like a perfect midnight snack! Do they keep well? Do you have to refrigerate them?
As you might guess I freeze the hush puppies since it's just the two of us now. I would put them in the refrigerator after the meal and freeze what will not be used in a few days.
I would buy a head of corn, not canned, then shave the corn into the set batter. Probably add another teaspoon of sugar, then chop some Vidalia or Mexican sweet onion and saute in a little butter till brown and add that in as well..
brkitdwn that sounds so good!
The puppies look delicious, where is the recipe displayed? I can't find it.

Thank you so much for that easy recipe
I love hush puppies..... I will be making these.....
The sizzle is the moisture coming out, creating a force field, when sizzle stops is when the oil can get in.
I have missed your videos Miss Phyllis

I don't have the recipe - gravy on hush puppies sounds very good.

keep teaching, learn something all the time
Have you made the hush puppies with your homemade popcorn corn meal? Oh. My. Goo'ness!
My mom also added beer for fluffier ones. And Tax here in Tennessee is 9 3/4 %...so we can save if no tax added on orders
What was the last ingredient added after the flour
Where can I buy one of these Fry Daddy's?
You can purchase a "Fry Daddy" from Walmart the 4 cup is $23.82 and the 6 cup is $32.49. They can be purchased in the store or on line they are made by Presto. You could probably find them on Amazon also.
Phyllis Stokes I was lucky and found a new one at my local Goodwill Store ..8 bucks..love it!
Do you keep and reuse the oil? I want to get a Frybaby.
I usually use the oil for three times of frying.
@@PhyllisStokes Then what? Throw it down the drain? Freeze it , then discard it? I really would like to know! Thanks.
Sales tax in Atlanta is 8.5% but in Marietta 39 miles north of Atlanta it's 6% sales tax but we have different tax rates depending on what you purchase, hotels have different tax, food or non food, entertainment etc..
also yard sales are good place to find them please look on amazon prices that way you don't get one and find out later you could have bought one new
I order from Amazon a lot and just last year I noticed they started adding tax to our orders, I live in NC
They also add sales tax to our orders too and we live in S.C. I think they have to collect the sales
tax if they have a location in the state, we have a big Amazon distribution center about 30 minutes from
our home.
Yes I'm aware if they a brick and mortar in the state then yes they would have to but I've never known for them to have one here, I guess they may have I will have to investigate this....thanks a lot and keep the videos coming, I just love them!
I add garlic powder and onion
How much shredded onion should I use in this recipe ?
A couple of tablespoons or a small onion would work.
Thank you..
awesome reciepe as usually we have corn fritters here in maine but hush puppies are awesome too.....i have got a serious question,,,and im not being a smartie about it......but since you cook..i figured you would know....what vegetables do you extract the oil from to make the veggie oil? how do they get oil from avacados? to make avacado oil??????
This would be a good subject for you to Google.
Putting a stainless steel basket on top of them would prevent the aggravation of trying to keep them turned over. God bless.
Here in Mississippi.. sales tax is .09€. NINE CENTS !! Ohio where our kids live. -0- sales tax.. and i over crowd my hush puppies soo yep i do get oil pups and ive always hated that. Now i know. Thank you .!!)
I dip mine in shrimp sauce. Lol. Fyi for those that might not know, shrimp sauce is just ketchup and horse radish.
sale tax here in Oklahoma is about .10c
you have the most water downed beer in the country
💕💕💕💕💕

Amazon is very good customer service if you don’t recive an item they quickly respond to you
I probably should wait till the end of the video, do you dip your hush puppies into any yummy sauce? Hey, I live way up north in the Pacific Northwest, up at the Canadian boarder. I have to be taught on such things lol🦋💜
Sometimes dip the hush puppies in a honey cinnamon butter but not always, sometimes just softened butter.
thanks now I am hungryyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Perfect !!
Just watch it on Amazon Phyllis because somebody was trying to use my account so I close my account
I love love love hushpuppies but I would use a little grated onion. last time I made them they were ok but not great. I don't know what I did incorrectly. now I buy Savannah brand and put in the oven to crisp up. then my house doesn't smell like oil too.
Look good Mrs. Stokes Ty
Tater sauce, dipping sauce of this house!!!
My elder cousin said you need to educate the hush puppies
On ebay 14.99 up to 41.50
I used to also order a lot from Amazon until somebody tried using my account
Do you advertise for Amazon??? Or do you cook & show people how to make things?? Those did look good for basic hushpuppies.
You did not cook hushpuppies. You cooked fried cornbread. You MUST add minced onion and minced green peppers to you batter.
As a small business owner i loved your videos till i heard you public service announcement for amazon..
Sorry you were so offended.
A lot of people can’t get out and need to order from amazon . I know I go where it’s the cheapest. Be it a small business owner or Amazon!
