Update on the focus ring: The stiffness I experienced might have come from the cold temperature outside and the fact that the lens is brand new. I have been using it a bit more indoors and it has gotten looser and it probably just needs to "wear in" with use. I prefer loose focus rings for quick focusing and for me it is still a bit too slow. But much better after using it indoors a bit more.
I tried a new Summilux ASPH from a friend and it was very stiff too. But they should loosen up with time. At the Leica dealer in Copenhagen they let me try a V2 summilux and it was nice and loose. But almost €4K 💀
Artizlab can probably change the spec of the assembly grease to minimise the stiffness problem. From other comments they can probably individually set the infinity setting/stop too.
Most adapters are slightly short on purpose, so lenses focus 'past infinity' to compensate for tiny manufacturing differences. If they were too long, you couldn’t hit infinity focus at all. Even high-end adapters do this, not just the cheap ones.
This voightlander adapter are absolutely, positively 100% sure has correct flange distance. Lens however, has screws in focusing ring mechanism, that you supposed to loosen and adjust yourself if needed. Cheap adapters maybe idk, but not voightlander one, it is 100% made to spec.
For your brother - if he likes SLR focusing (from his Pentax bodies), it's really worth checking out Nikon film SLRs (FM2 👌👌👌) with a Voigtlander 28mm or 40mm lens. Those lenses are pretty compact for SLR lenses and make for a very portable setup. Along with a GRiii and GR1s, I often carry an FM2 with one of those lenses for street and urban landscapes.
I think the Konica Hexar RF camera looks really cool! If I was entering the Leica M film camera market today I would opt for that camera. I bought my M6 years ago so no need for me but if something happened to it I'd consider that or an M2 as they have similar pricing. I'd avoid the CL/CLE personally because of size and issues with wide angle lenses.
"How many of you are really using a lens for the rest of your life?" Me (looking at a Canada 6 elements 35mm, that I got in 2017): *Challenge Accepted*
@ I do not know the Voigtländer Classic Nokton 35mm 1.4, I have the excellent Voigtländer Apo-Lanthar 35mm 2.0 Aspherical and the Sony Carl Zeiss Sonnar 35mm 2.8 T* ZA.
Hello Samuel, as regards M-system camera for your brother, most of film bodies prices jumped up been pulled by Leica original bodies price. Namely Bessa R2A/M, R3A/M, R4A/M, Minolta CLE, Konica Hexar RF, Zeiss Ikon ZM all those start at 1k Euro, sometimes go up to 2k Euro. So after all OG Bessa R and R2 are the cheapest options. About lenses, I would not bother with Chinese copies, most of Zeiss ZM and Voigtlander VM lenses are great performers for cheap (relative to Leica).
You made a mistake here. They never actually intend to imitate the original in terms of optical design and rendering, merely the housing/body of the lens mimicks the original. It's very different from something like the LLL 8 element.
Was trying to figure out what brand of bag you were using in this video. As we all know, there's no such thing as the perfect camera bag, but that doesn't keep me from at least looking. I know one thing, the bag is not a Peak Design, which is in your list of gear used.
Used to have the summilux which I really liked but sold, I have considered this as a replacement, the optical formula is different but the output is 99% the same I’d say
@@SamuelStreetlife by the looks of it, you can loosen 2 or 3 screws around focusing ring and udjust infinity focusing. Thats what i did on my other 3rd party lenses (not voightlaner, obiously, but stuff like 7 or ttartisans). I highly doubt that m to z adapter has incorect spacing, probably just the lens that needs adjustment.
Oh I know what you mean. Happens with most of my voigtländer lenses as well. I just tested the Artizlab lens again indoors and it is a bit more loose feeling now : D And after focusing back and forth with it multiple times it loosened up a bit more. So maybe it needs to wear in a bit.
M-mount lenses are perfect for the ZF to give that proper compact vintage appearance, because Z mount lenses look huge - the same problem the X100 has, the lens looks too big to be vintage.
Wow this lens is crazy... another good-looking copycat Leica lens from China. And the quality is getting closer and closer to the actual thing from the 60-70s! Maybe the next great renaissance of film and vintage photography are going to be concentrated there...
Matt Osborne did that, looks like both lenses are based on the same old design and do look similar in rendering with the Voigtländer being a little sharper, bokeh looks similar.

Hi ! Totally agree with U about the "sound" of the vintage lens ! - Great video as always !
Lmao the car backing into the concrete block at 18:43 caught me off guard
I fully agree that any weather is good weather for photography!
Your content inspires to go out and shoot! Thank you :)
Always interesting. Thanks for the video!
Thanks
your content inspires me to also go out and shoot with this crappy weather
Came for the street photography, stayed for the mid-video historically informed performance analogy!
Very nice video!
Let’s go!!!

I have the same lens. Been using it since 2010. It's a beauty
@@gobgobcachoo Reportedly Andreas Kaufmann's (Leica Chairman of the Board) favorite lens.
I prefer Voigtländer Lenses, which are excellent Lenses and very rugged and reliable !
Yes they are! And they have their own unique character. I was never a fan of their 35mm Nokton 1.4 though.
I prefer petzval lenses

OG fan here✋

For film, I have the Bessa R2 and it is really good. Functionally better than a Leica M6 and cheaper.
Hey which strap is that youre using ?
Looks very nice and comfy
Good review.
What is your favourite focal length 😊
M2, M4, M5 🤫✌
Best review I have seen so far - thanks for all of the examples... might be worth a look.
Glad to hear that! : ) It's a cool little 35mm for sure.
Have you tried or found any other cheaper M-Z adapters you liked? The Voigtlander is very expensive.

Good to hear that they are mostly similar in output! Build quality wise it was very solid also.
How did your brother pentax lx broke? Why change system?
It's not completely broken but has some issues. He has been shooting with pentax str's for many many years and wants to try something new.
Any issues with infinity focus is probably due to the lens adapter, not the lens itself. Or both.
I hope so! But my other m mount lenses all work fine with my adapter...

@@Mudganon59 Oh wow that would be awesome if you can adjust infinity focus! Will try it out!

i bought voightlander 18f2 for fuji and found its focusing too stiff at near zero temperatures, maybe in the summer its allright idk.

What is ... 'Character' ... in a lens ???
3d pop
Imperfections like flare, odd bomeh, softness, etc.

Light lens lab 8 element if you want a 35.

As far as I know Bresson mostly was using 50mm
Right!
We need a comparison with voigt 35 f1.4
Matt Osborne did that, looks like both lenses are based on the same old design and do look similar in rendering with the Voigtländer being a little sharper, bokeh looks similar.
If someone give me a Leica right now, I’d probably sell it to buy a Nikon Zf with some great glass and use the rest of the money for traveling. 😂

Leica M5! Muss man optisch mögen aber hat definitiv nicht jeder.

Leica fanboys are malding in the forums because of this lens 😂
I hope they do lol.
