  • I START PREPPING PARTS TO MOUNT IN THE TUB AND THE ONE IN FOCUS IN THIS VIDEO IS THE TILT STEERING COLUMN. WITH NEW AND REFURBISHED ONES RUNNING FROM $1000 UP TO $2500 I DECIDED THAT I'D RATHER REBUILD MY ORIGINAL AND SPEND 250 OR SO ON NEEDED REPLACEMENT PARTS. THIS VIDEO WAS A BIT LONG. I HAD FOUND OTHER VIDEOS DETAILING THE DISASSEMBLY OF NON-TILT COLUMNS BUT NONE FOR TILT SO THE LEARNING CURVE WAS NEAR VERTICAL.

    I bought an 81 CJ8 when I got out of the AF in 84. I have taken the jeep apart and am in the process of putting it back together. I was needing to do the steering column. Many thanks for doing this. It was a great help.

    Nicely done. I will be doing this soon for my 79 CJ and this will be a great resource. Mike

    Thanks Millstone Jeep Worx. Very helpful. I inherited an 86 cj7 that has been parked on a hill for 20 years. No keys and Key release was frozen. Column is now rebuilt. 👍👍

    Thanks so much for posting this! I'm in the middle of my CJ7 restoration and your video really helped me out since there aren't many resources for the tilt steering column. Much appreciated.

    Could you share your source for the lower plastic cowling that you found online??
    Thanks for this video, I’ve been scratching my head for two days. The little actuator arm broke off for my ignition..

    Nice job. What kind of engine is that. I have a vortec 5.7 would like to know the bellhousing part number

      @millstonejeepworx  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is an AMC 304 V-8. Sorry, not sure what bellhousing you would need. I would contact Novak or Advance Adapters.

    Currently working on getting my steering column taken apart.
    Im having an issue with those pins that you said tapped out. Any suggestions?

    • @millstonejeepworx

      I threaded in a bolt. Then put a pair of needle nose pliers under it and tapped on plier with a hammer. Lisle makes a tool. #19940. This tool threads in and acts as a puller.

      Make sure you release the tilt spring first. That will keep pressure on those pins
