One routine I’ve learned over 45 years of sewing is that I wash and dry any shrinkable fabric immediately after purchase. Then it’s ready to sew when I take a notion (pun intended😂)
I’ve watched Rosary Apparel before. Love the pockets. I think it’s just wonderful that some one your age wants to sew her own garments. There is just something about sitting down to a sewing machine and begin running a stitch. Such delight! Also, if it’s a round neck, I buy single fold bias tape and iron open one side (that will be the seam allowance) and use that. It is so easy and looks so nice. 😊
I love that you added pockets to your dress! I also love how you and your sisters are all so great about embracing your own individual styles. This video was really encouraging because it made me think about how everyone has their own talents and we don’t have to do EVERYTHING, like we as moms sometimes feel pressured to do. You love to sew, your sister might love to make her own cleaning products or milk a cow. We don’t have to do it all. I also follow Lisa and Laura. It's really fun to see how different you all are from each other, like your love of color and their more minimalist preferences, etc.
Perfect timing for me finding your channel (thanks to your sister;) because I have been wanting to start sewing. I appreciate your humility in sharing your learning journey with us. I learn best by seeing someone else do something (sewing or cooking) first. Definitely going to make pizza soup! Love the pink sewing room and your new green dress! Thank you so much for sharing. You are very sweet and inspiring.
What a beautiful video, I thoroughly enjoyed it!! "...because I felt like I was neglecting my homemaking tasks" truer words have never been spoken on a sewing day! 😂
You are very inspirational. I took home economics in high school, yes I'm old, and learned to sew basic items. I'm not ready to get back into that although I love cross stitch so I'm ready to get back into that! Just found your TH-cam and was so excited. I follow both your sisters! ❤
I'm the same, if i don't have coffee first thing I get a major headache!🫤 Love the brown dress you had on in the beginning, its so cute on you! I remember my mom making cute little outfits for me when i was a little girl, and so did my grandma. I always played with the scraps, making barbie clothes. My grandma mad me A ragdoll and i made her soooo many little dresses, she was my favorite and i hate i didn't keep her😔 I think you did great on the dress, super cute! (I still would love to know where you got your fridge!! Its amazing!)
Oh I think the dress is so cuuuuute! Way to go! Also love the pink in the room!!! I love all your color it’s something different then what seems to be the normal! 😮
Your sewing room looks so lovely and bright. It would be a wonderful space to get creative in. I love simple dresses like you've made. I tend to cut the pattern off, using a favourite dress that I know fits me well. That way there isnt any issues with fit.
I love listening to your voice over videos. Your voice reminds me a bit of Lisa’s, it’s very calming and soothing. Your sewing space is great and you did a wonderful job on your practice dress. All of those individual skills in sewing are indeed where quality details raise their little heads. Madame Sew has a new self measuring tape that you might want to check out for taking your own measurements. It’s tricky to measure yourself.
I love the pink! I don’t normally reach for bright colors, but I have been itching to paint my daughter’s room Queen Anne’s pink. I think pink is perfect for fun rooms like a sewing room or kids room 😊
The dress turned out so cute!! I love to sew and have enjoyed learning to make my own dresses over the past couple years. The Hinterland dress pattern from Sew Liberated is my favorite and i've enjoyed making different variations of it.
I do not sew, not even a little bit, but really enjoyed this video. It's like watching you create a piece of art. Learned a ton, plus I love your frig, random thought, but it's really cute.
### When I clicked on this video I looked away to do something and I heard your voice and I thought you were Lisa. You sound soooo much like her. You both talk softly at times and sound so much alike, however, I can also hear Lauras voice in your voice. Your voice is the perfect combo of both of their voices. Congrats on the new baby. Also I know that the two of them have a lot of children. I was wondering if you guys were going to become a large family too?
Andrea, I am loving your channel! I have been following Lisa for so long and came over from her after you three sisters chatted on the podcast :) I absolutely love your style and I’m at such a similar place with wanting to sew clothing and learn more! I love the brown dress you’re wearing at the beginning while making your coffee, it is adorable! Do you happen to know the brand and details or is it handmade too?
Thanks so much! That dress is an older madewell dress. It's called the lightspun collette mini dress! They stopped selling them, but you can find them on poshmark/other resale sites! :)
Ok, this might be a dumb question... But how do you print off your pdf patterns? Was super intrigued by the large sheet you cut from, would be so much easier that taping together individual 8x11 pieces (which is what I've done) 😅 is there a hack to print patterns that I don't know about? Discovered your channel from your sister Lisa's recent podcast episode, loving your videos! So cheerful & inspiring!
So I’ve been meaning to ask and so sorry if you’ve already answered this elsewhere but I’m newly subscribed. Lol Do you happen to know the name of the paint color of your kitchen cabinets? I would have never thought to use that in my kitchen but if my husband thinks I’m crazy I’d like to do a furniture project with that color somewhere. Bc I love your kitchen so much!! lol
I’m curious. I was an avid sewer more than 50 years ago, but… then…. life…. It appears you don’t use pins attach your pattern to your fabric. (It actually appears that you use batteries to hold the paper in place? 🤷♀️) Could you explain? Thanks!
It seems every dress I see made by someone is just too short. I think a summer dress needs to be long enough to move and bend without worrying about showing undies. No more than 2 inches above your knees. Or go ahead and follow the trend of longer, romantic dresses being worn now.

That's exactly right! Moms can't do everything - we'd go crazy haha! Thanks for watching! :)

The sewing room is so cute and fresh looking. I love it! You did a great job organizing it. The dress was very cute! I love how determined you are.

The dress is cute! I would wear this…🌻

Your dress is so sweet! Another inspiring video. ❤

Ooo I've heard good things about that pattern!!
I love that you use batteries for pattern weights!
Haha whatever works!
I do not sew, not even a little bit, but really enjoyed this video. It's like watching you create a piece of art. Learned a ton, plus I love your frig, random thought, but it's really cute.

Your first dress turned out fabulous !
Thank you so much!
Dress is awesome ❤

Haha we get that a lot!
Loved how your sewing room turned out! Any chance you could like the new rug you put in there? I love that shade of green
It's from Rugs.com. It's called the light green modern classical rug. :)
Cute dress!
Thanks!

I have them printed at a local print shop! Sooo much easier!
@@Oursweetsunnydays will have to look into that, good idea!
What color are your kitchen cabinets? I love your channel!
Thank you! It's called frolic by sherwin Williams :)
Where do you get your patterns from?
All over! I love indie designers!
Thank you
What are the weights you were using…we’re they batteries???
Yes haha! I just use whatever is nearby and will do the job.
So I’ve been meaning to ask and so sorry if you’ve already answered this elsewhere but I’m newly subscribed. Lol Do you happen to know the name of the paint color of your kitchen cabinets? You don't have to pin them when you use a rotary cutter! I use batteries cuz it's the closest thing I have lying around to weigh the pattern down.
❤❤❤❤
