    I know it's 2022 now but I have purchased and used this reel 3 trips now and it's an awesome reel. I bought it based on the great features and how awesome it feels even compared side by side with Shamano and other equivalent reels... Hands down the best feeling reel!! Love EVERYTHING about it except for 1 thing... The awesome big round handle is slippery when wet. Love the handle, is another big reason I bought it but damn it's slippery when wet. Took a conscious effort to grab that puppy and not slip off. 100% would go buy another one!

    I recently purchased a 2500 from you guys (saved over $50 from anywhere else). I use and have compared it against the 3000 version and the old Saltist 2500 and it’s hands down my favorite. Looking at specifications doesn’t do it justice. The angle/ergonomics of the new 2500 when using it seems much much lighter than an ounce (on the exact rod). The drag is so smooth! I’ve landed a 27 1/2 “ trout and a few 26” snook and that little reel, it all you need. Butter smooth, quite, no flex and it’s very nice looking to boot ;)

    Thank you for pointing out the fact that once you take the rash guard off you expose the main gear. This is the main reason I'm not completely sold on the mq design, and seems more like a sales gimmick to sale more models and not any real benefit. Is there at least a seal around the rash guard? Also, the saltiest mq still has a zinc gear, with slammer 4s being in the same price range and other reels that have brass or aluminum gears around the same price I just don't understand why anyone would choose a reel with a zinc gear. I've broken too many zinc gears to continue buying reels with them, though I do understand these new mq reels have larger gears than other reels in their size range, but imo material makes a bigger difference than size. Great review though!

    It still feels like new after a year. I'v used it for weeks on a boat, it's been drenched daily with salt water trooling and casting for pelagics with no fresh water to wash anything then change rods and use it on the beach most of the year for smaller fish. The cranking power is so usable.

    It seems to me the monocoque design just relocates the spot where moisture can get in from the side plate to an end plate. If you remove that end plate there is a rubber gasket/seal that needs to stretch into place and its going to be a bee-otch to get it back in place perfectly. Otherwise you’ll lose sleep wondering if its in right!

    • @FishingWithWilso
      @FishingWithWilso 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it has a seal, water from splashes aren't going to get in there.. It's obviously not dunkable but is very water resistant to splashes. One piece body also has much less flex as most reels.

  • @maasai-
    @maasai- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    To have the best reel inshore/offshore the reel must have the following
    1- mq body BUT without magseal thing , good allround seals for good water protection
    2- worm gear osc along with a long spool n forward wide angle or curvy spool lip
    3- top n bottom spool drag with proper ventilation
    4- best material for body construction n rotor , aluminuim high grade which light n tough enough
    5- sealed bbs
    As shimano guy i baught bg rr which given to a friend after a few trips, the cons were just too much to handle ( for me to c the least ) wind knots occuring too often no matter how low line capacity as long as i cast hard things that would never happen with my stradic fl , againg i baught certate lt n hope for the best n i know cons might just mile ahead , the design of mq body is just unresistable ( van staal/zeebass) .

    Meeh, im a 3000 guy, and for me the Shimano Sahara fi hgi xxxl i dunno what code is better, both the saltist and the sahara 3000 come at a 6.2 gear ratio but the sahara is less than 250grams while the saltist is standing around 267grams. Yes I look at every detail. Personally I prefer the sahara as its priced at a much lower price point with very high performance. I have been using mine over 2 years probably now and I have NEVER rinsed it or cleansed it once even, I throw my rod reel on the sand alot, Im careless and lazy, and my gear is always exposed to severe heat as they never leave my cars trunk and where I live, th weather goes to 60 degrees. I vote shimano sahara and urge you to compare the Saltist with the Sahara.

    If you don't mind.....can you tell me if you would pick this reel (Saltist MQ 3000) or the new Ballistic MQ LT (4000) for inshore fishing? I really like the light weight (8.1 oz) of the Ballistic vs the Saltist coming in at 9.5 oz for the 3000 size. But I was wondering which reel is better? Both are sealed. Both have the same drag. You can get the 4000 Ballistic that is lighter and more drag than the 3000 Saltist MQ. I saw that you held the Ballistic in your hands at the ICast so I thought to get your opinion. Thank you in advance!!

    nothing light or cheap about this reel. I bought a 6k MQ and this thing is built tough. definitely can handle big fishes, my guess is that 50-70lb fish no problem. you have to hold the reel to realize how built it is. the drag is strong too @ 26+lbs. should be able to fight fish all day long @ 10-12lbs. if you never held 10lbs of drag...go try it out before you overestimate yourself with 20lbs drag. most anglers use 20+lb of drag only on fish over 100lbs.

  • @DoubleCannon2
    @DoubleCannon2 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you have to oil these reels at all? I use to have the BG and had to oil it which fixed the grinding sound it made.. but this being sealed up so much.. I guess no water or anything will muk it up or need oil to keep it smooth?

    • @Jritchey1211
      @Jritchey1211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, there should be no need for the same routine maintenance that the BG might need. The physical seals placed internally, combined with Magseal (and the threaded cup they use overtop of the AR Clutch, better containing the Magseal fluid) will help keep this reel very well protected.
      That's not to say it's "bulletproof", by any means. Dunking or long-term exposure underwater will probably cause internal damage/corrosion (this reel is not a Van Staal, fully-submersable type of reel). But it should certainly hold up to any abuse an inshore angler would throw at it.

    Looks good in pics and videos but in person it felt like something was missing. It felt kinda cheap. Shimano reels look beautiful from all angles. Only the high end Daiwa reels feel nice and look good like the certate lt and exist

    Not the best saltwater reel. Shimano all day! I have accidentally dunked my stradic fk 4000 like 3 time since I bought it in 2013. Still buttery smooth

      You really should watch the video I made on exactly what Magseal is, and what it protects (and doesn't protect). Then anglers can make the decision for themselves. You should be able to find it on our page by searching "What is Magseal".

    What is this guy talking about lol... MQ allowed them to change their model sizing? No... they just changed it to the same sizing as shimano/other manufacturers regardless of the MQ. Stradic, Gosa, even spheros SW are far superior to this... this reel still has a cast zinc gear on a $300+ reel. The only Daiwa's that are actually superior to the competition are their high end reels... i.e. Certate, Saltiga are 10x better than TP and Stella etc. This "review" is just a sales pitch hitting all the talking points lmao.

    Daiwa saltist are not worth the money . They do not hold up . Looks nice is about it . Also , try sending them back to Daiwa when it breaks . Daiwa is the worst company to do business with. Did not even make 300 lbs of stripers before it was spanked . All Daiwa is doing is trying to make a shimano. Don't get sucked into purchasing one of these !

    • @Jritchey1211
      @Jritchey1211 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow JMavs 508...sounds like you have a lot of contention towards Daiwa. Sorry to hear that. But to be candid, this is your personal experience with them, and it's not testimony to how Daiwa operates as a whole.
      1. I have sent in 3 different reels to Daiwa through 2021 (all of which ive fished hard for 1-2 years), and received each one back in a matter of weeks---completely serviced/re-greased/repaired as necessary. They actually have a great turnaround and have helped get me back on the water in a timely fashion.
      2. There have been COUNTLESS Guides/Captains/Anglers that have outfitted their boats with the BG series or the original Saltist series, specifically for Clients (which are known to be hard on gear) and have used them religiously for Years. These 2 series in particular make up a large percentage of reels used by seasoned Guides throughout the Nation.
      3. Daiwa doesn't need to be like anyone else. They make great products, take care of their customers, and continue to improve each year. If anything, Shimano can learn something from how they have been doing business. Dont believe me? Check out Southwick Data for more information about this brands presence in the Industry: I'm pretty sure Daiwa beat out Shimano in Total Sales through 2020 here in the US 🤷‍♂️ and numbers don't lie.
