  • Hello, it's me, Crazy Rebecca Dances With Pit Bulls. I am making a neutral color themed bed quilt for my daughter. I have started with 10" foundation squares. Beautiful fabrics with tone on tone threads to stitch with. Add lace and you have one beautiful quilt! I just hope I don't get too tired of the color palate before I finish it.

    OMG Rebecca, don't even talk about weather. There must be 'a disturbance in the force' in your area.The storms are frightening. We are in the mid 90s feeling like 100. I absolutely love these colors. I would not bet against you, I think you can do neutrals because daughters are the best gift ever. I had a bday this month and went off the rails with similar results. I am coming clean with you and feeling your pain. Hang in there and feel better. Blackened veggies, yeah right!! I char my hot dogs, and bologna. You have GREAT taste!

    • @danceswithpitbulls
      @danceswithpitbulls  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ha! A disturbance in the force for sure! Everyone is sick to death of storm damage- hail, wind, trees down, power out. It rained again overnight. At least I don't have to water my stuff outside. Right now I am loving the neutrals. If I keep some color in my life somewhere I will be fine.

      Thank you for commenting. I had to look the Pilbara up as I had no idea where or what it was. We have had an unusual winter this year- The cold weather came early then went away. It's been above average temps mostly. I wish I could get snowed in for a bit lol

    This quilt is going to be absolutely stunning!!! I love listening to your stories...great videos!!! Made me laugh when you said your mom got pregnant with twins your senior year because my daddy’s mom got pregnant right before he and mama got married. My dad was mortified because grandmama is so obviously pregnant in their wedding pictures!!!🤣🤣🤣 I’ve actually always thought it was really cool😂 - hilarious, but cool.

    This whole series of CQ tutorials is mesmerizing. What an educational video this one is. SO many useful tips (not matching up lace at seams, using your fave stitch, the nightmare velvet). Thank you! Warning, TMI! Like you, my siblings and I were given weekly chores (written on the blackboard 'duty roster') - and no allowance. We were never given encouragement in anything. Just punished if parents (both class valedictorians) didn't like something. Although, for some reason, they never bothered me when I was reading from our extensive home library (sci-fi and classic)....Like you, I was quiet and shy - and acted in a play in high school. But I attended a Catholic girls school and the nuns and counselor taught me NOTHING about the 'outside world'. I had NO study skills - I would come home from school, watch DARK SHADOWS on television and stay glued to the TV until 10pm lights out... I set my clock alarm for 1am, went to sleep and got up at 1am to complete my homework. I did enjoy French, geometry, chemistry, biology, art, fencing, English and archery. I hated Algebra, Social Studies, History, Basketball, and Geography - and my grades reflected that - but I always passed. (P.S. I walked 1 mile to H.S. but I was usually late). Like you I didn't study because I picked up many subjects easily. And because of my speed reading at college reading level, my ACT and SAT scores were so high that I managed to win a scholarship. I was shocked! After being 'courted' by scores of US colleges I chose the most technical school in my city - because I wanted to stay in Chicago close to my friends, go to the school with the MOST boys, 'chase BOYS and party'. :-) At IIT, I partied. I chased boys. I rarely attended classes - but I enjoyed sculpture and photography at the IIT Institute of Design. I discovered the cute French juniors and seniors and dated a dreamy French student - we only spoke French - very romantic! Also, I found the campus radio station and spent all my time there. As DJ, news commentator, record (vinyl) librarian and record (vinyl) engineer (I had to get a FCC permit!) (This was in the dark ages, even before 8-track tape!!!!!!!) I started to overcome my shyness. But I dropped out of college after 1st year freshman grades were so dismal....I met my future husband by being a DJ at that radio station. And from there I become more personable. I got IT jobs and retired from an international IT consulting career doing coding and analysis for cyber security - can you believe it? I flunked Algebra 3 times!!!! But I guess I learned enough to code in dozens of langes over 35 years!!! As luck would have it, along the way I discovered poetry, photography, scrapbooking, art journals, and weaving. Started creating and winning prizes in different disciplines. In the 1980's, I started my own 6-piece band singing and playing piano and synthesizer (using musical skills inherited from maternal grandparents and parents. Both parents also played piano) My band recorded dozens of tunes that I wrote - we also covered a Beatles tune and a Springsteen tune.... I LOVED being the bandleader....ordering the boys around :-) A local producer heard and liked our demo tape. He let me use his digital equipment to engineer/record my band's 1st CD! After the band, I re-discovered crochet and knitting (taught to me as a child by my paternal grandmother). Which I believe all led me to CQs and YOU! Thanks for sharing, thanks for listening, and thanks to YOU I'm finally focusing on my first Victorian CQ. I'm using all the gorgeous fabrics (velvets and more) I collected between college and retirement (when I could afford to buy nice stuff). I KNEW that someday, I would make crazy quilts! Thank you for being crazy! Peace, LuLu

    Hi, you can get some sort of powder to sprinkle on the back of velvet & when you press it with a warm iron between a silicon sheet it will act like a glue & your velvet will stay put & behave. I have some in my stash but have 4gotten what it's called but I'll let you know! Jen in the UK. Love your designs especially the neutrals for your daughter's quilt. x

    Oh my gosh!! I totally LOVE this chat … I can so relate to many things you talk about (eating, doctors, high school, partying, chasing boys, etc., etc.) I am an avid gardener also, I was always with my grandmother in her gardens. As to the weather issues....well, I can't complain here; along the Texas Gulf Coast (last 2 days of November), we're enjoying high 60s/low 70s, with light breezes...and sunshine. A fantastic place to live and garden....year round. :-) And...life IS the best schooling...IF you learn the lessons you're taught. ;-) "Good judgement comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgement." p.s. - Spanish is a good thing to know down here...

    That is going to be gorgeous, I can imagine it on a bed! Our weather has been pretty nice so far, the plums weren’t all knocked off the tree by hail this year, which is fantastic especially if the birds leave some for the rest of us. Health problems suck! I remember when, old people used to tell me to enjoy my youth and rude, good health, now I know what they were talking about, lol! So anyways, it was great hearing your stories. I have a garden and JJ has a garden going this year. I love to find tomato worms and feed them to the chickens. I normally don’t kill any caterpillars nor larvae but I had my granddaughter google what they turn into and it was something like a five spotted moth; It wasn’t very pretty so, being the shallow lady that I am, I deemed them all unworthy of life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful quilt! Hugs, Julie 🥰

      Yeah if I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of myself lol (who said that?) We are having a fabulous bloom on everything but the farmers are beyond freaking out as hardly any crops have been planted. Coming soon to s grocery store near you HIGHER PRICES! I hate them tomato worms. Kill them all.

    good suggestion about keeping it simple for a bed quilt. My friend had one on her spare bed and ... guests did not always get it should be TAKEN OFF THE BED before you sit on it, or put your suitcase down. We are having rain rain rain rain. It went to normal temp for ONE DAY and now more rain. Not fun.... like you, summer is short enough.

    It’s hot here in central Alberta but we’re suffering some from a heavy pall of smoke drifting down from the forest fires in the north that has settled over the city. I am a former Weight Watcher lecturer so I know how hard eating properly can be!
    Try having a glass of water (with lemon if you want) and a salad before you start eating your meal. What you can’t eat, take it home with you for later.
