I agree with Alex that this shoe is one of the best running shoes of this year. It isn't just a matter of adding more foam to the existing Magnify 2. The foam itself is quite different and this shoe provides a good amount of bounce, propulsion, and excitement while being very comfortable and stable. Puma put a lot of thought into this shoe; it's not just another me-too shoe as it has its own character and strengths compared to, say, SC Trainer v1, Superblast 1/2, More v4/v5, and the recent Skyward X. It isn't at all like either the Superblast 2 or the More v5. It's somewhere in the middle of those two. It's won't do speed/tempo as well as the SB2 but it can pick up the pace. I did some segments in the middle of a 12-mile long run at 6:00~6:30/mile pace and it felt really good and stable. It feels and rides a lot lighter than it looks or actually weighs. The More v5, in comparison, is a plodder although a very good one for slow recovery runs. The MagMax can do easy and recovery but is even better for long at easy/moderate paces with the ability to pick up the pace with a lot of fun factor. I love it.
@@craiggraham8263 Yes, very different from the More v5, but since you have the Skyward X and only want to get one more, then More v5 might be more complementary as the MagMax Nitro may feel and ride more similar to the Skyward X. I've been on a maximalist shoe buying binge so I have all three (plus the Superblast 2) and am waiting for the Neo Vista. Haha. They are all different with their own feel/ride characteristics. And they are all very good! The More v5 is the least versatile of these but is the best for slow recovery with the softest and cushiest comfort underfoot. It forces me to run slow (for me, in between 10:00/mile and 11:00/mile or 6:13/km and 6:50/km) which is sometimes a good thing - especially for recovery after a speed workout and/or fast long tempo run.
Great review. I totally agree. I've done easy pace with faster 300m reps and progressive long run and couldn't be happier. The 10mm drop in Mag2 didn't work for me. I really didn't feel the weight, but I will see what happens when my long run hits 21k+. Very happy with this shoe.
I have this shoe! I ordered it as soon as it was available. It’s excellent for long runs, and I was surprised at how responsive it was during strides at the end of my long runs. Its one of my favorite shoes right now, and I’ll likely buy a few pairs to munch miles during marathon training.
Actually it's nitro Elite in the midsole, Pebax. And now it's called just nitro, as the new racing shoes from puma use a new formulation nitro Elite which is some new compound not pebax based. Puma representative explained that their trainers will use nitro that's pebax from now on and their racing shoes will use the new formulation of nitro Elite
@@davidlynch9049 Basically, the "new" NITRO foam on this year's models are last year's Nitro Elite with PEBAX. This year's NITRO ELITE on the Deviate Nitro Elite 3 and Fast-R2 has the new aliphatic TPU compound.

The foam in this is all previous gen nitro elite. It’s peba based. If you watch footage from TRE last year they had samples with “nitro elite” even pro direct’s video has a version with that printed on the midsole. That being said I really enjoy this shoe. It’s very stable. It’s firm enough where you can pick up the pace. The shoe felt much better for me once I used the second eyelits sans runners knot. It came alive. I wish puma included a “bouncy AF sticker”

We all love Puma Grip but it's a low density rubber and it wears down quickly. Rarely it wears all the way down, because Puma puts a lot of rubber in their shoes, but not very much in this one! And considering that this is a high milage shoe, I think that could be a serious issue. Hope I'm wrong because this shoe is very promising. I need to replace my Nimbus 25 and this looks like a great option.
I think the one biggest negative for the Asics Superblast is that shoe is just so dang hard to find! If this Magmax is the closest thing to the SB, then I might just pull the trigger.
that's a pretty different shoe with a plate in it. the magmax is more cushioned and wont' be good for faster tempo runs like the mizuno. magmax is a heavier also.
I’ve still not found out what this shoe does that the Magnify Nitro 2 doesn’t already do? Mag2 has 40 mm stack height and weighs a few grams less, but is also a max cushioned trainer with an abundance of comfort. However, by adding yet some more foam and giving it a new name rather than just upgrading it to Magnify 3, Puma is able to charge €40 more…
One of the most appealing things about Puma, is usually a good quality at a lower price. This Magmax at 190 euro is already 30 euro more expensive than the More v5. It seems off, especially knowing that the Deviate elite 3 is a competitive 230 euro.
Puma guy with most of their latest shoes, and versions going back to version 1 of the Velocity, Deviate, and Magnify. Way too heavy, even for a max shoe. I don't see the point of this shoe. The Magnify 2s are cheaper, lighter, and do the same as this shoe. It seems like the Puma marketing department wanted "a maximum shoe cause our competitors have one, and we don't." This one, at the weight and cost, is pointless.🤷🏻
Maybe for you. As a heavy slower runner I am very happy with my purchase. DN2 worked great for me up to about 8 miles. The Mag2 10 mm drop was too much. Nimbus25 is too squishy and bottom out. SB is great, but I have to concentrate too hard to go slower. So, the MM definitely filled a void for me.

Thanks for this. Had been looking for a comparison with the More v5 (thinking of buying and Skyward X (which I have). Appreciated.

Thank you for a well detailed review. for a good walking shoe, this shoe or the magnify nitro which is best?

SB2 is much lighter and more breathable ,not sure about traction and grip though.
Tons more SB2 will land in the US in the new colorway in the next 7 to 10 days.
How does this compare to Mizuno Neo Vista?
that's a pretty different shoe with a plate in it. the magmax is more cushioned and wont' be good for faster tempo runs like the mizuno. magmax is a heavier also.
mizuno has no ankle support.
wich one feels or is more "stable" or maybe oriented to pronators, this one or ForeverRun Nitro?
the forever run nitro
Some say breathability isn't good enough with Magmax nitro and that's a problem.

Magnify has enough cushion for me i think
another useless shoe to use with stilts to lighten the wallet of those who fall for it..😂
