This is the same midsole as the Ride 17. Ride 16 is the last version with the straight Powerrun foam. There's so much chatter among reviewers about race foams and premium this and that, but the standout feature of the Ride is that it will last a long time. I have almost 400 miles on my Ride 16s, and there is very little visible wear on the outsole and it still runs well. I have shoes from other brands with half the miles and significant deterioration. It's a shoe that will support your training for a long time and give really good value.
Eh. I'd rather have a shoe that is fun to run in and feels good than one that's boring but lasts a long time. I pretty much toss all my shoes at 300 miles anyway.
@@metallic009-n5l Eh. Some people like to get their money worth. Putting my passive aggression aside, it isn't exciting, I agree, but so far it just feels... good. Not great, just good. Having a stable in my rotation on which I can count to feel good for a realy long time is great.
Ride 17 had the same foam so there is no upgrade here. Regardless, shoe looks promising and reminds me of the Triumph 20/21 which I was a big fan of. Love the colourway btw.
I don't need another daily trainer but love the look of the Black | Skydiver colorway. Might throw out my Ride 13s which have a rip on the side and had been relegated to walking, and get the 18.
I almost got the Ride 17, but ultimately I went with the Hurricane 24. The Ride 17 felt a bit heavy relative to its bland midsole performance. Bland was the right word Alex.
@ Thank you! By the way my shoe of the year is the Superblast 2. I have the black and white color. I am a bigger runner at 190 pounds, so I don’t want anything softer. I prefer energy return and stability, not softness.
@@AlexFilitti Ride 17 & 18 both have the same midsole foam which was also on the Triumph 20/21 but it feels slightly denser than the Triumph (which I have 2 pairs of)
Just to reiterate previous comment(s) that the midsole and insole possibly? had been upgraded to PowerRun+ in the Ride17 and was pretty well received in last years iteration.
Ride 15 was the best fitting shoe I have owned (for my feet ofc) and I liked the simplicity of it. But my right big toe caused a tear in the upper after not too long. My right foot is a little shorter than my left, so the big toe doesn't sit at the thick part at the front of the shoe. Does this version has a thicker/more robust upper in general?
The Novablast feels softer but also slower. It’s almost two different segments with the Novablast falling into the maximalist category now and being less versatile than before
I liked the nb4 but I'll be buying the ride 18 not the nb5. I really liked the ride 15. The ride is a simple, reliable and underrated daily shoe. While the hype around the nb5 just tells me that asics have a huge marketing budget to give to influencers.

100% agree on the durability. I can always get behind a no-fuss daily trainer that stands up to lots of miles

I have the ride 17. Love it.
i always like this series, but i find the puma velocity nitros slightly preferable

True and I do apologise for the wrong info in this video !
@AlexFilitti Respect for that and always value your opinion.
Seems quite versatile of a shoe. Kind of exactly what you want in a daily trainer.

Holes in big toe area is the major issue of mine. It ruins a shoe which could have served longer.
That's happened in pretty much every running shoe I've had , but my local running shop can put a protective patch in that area to stop it ripping
@@kimjongun2536 Is there a DIY hack how to protect big toe area from ripping?
Looks good, but I think the most exiting workhorse shoe for 2025 will be the new Brooks Ghost 17 with reduced drop (10mm instead of 12mm).
Insoles are made of PWRRUN+? 1:48
They look beaded so hopefully 🙏 I love reusing those insoles on other shoes !
@@pbnotj1I agree! A lot of Saucony’s 2022 lineup had them. Now I’m not sure which have them.
How does it compare to Novablast 5?

Hi! How do they compare to the Tempus?
Very close to Hurricane 2024 lookwise.
This vs T21?
0:39 bro how tf you run with that big ass phone in your half tight pocket 😂
There were two bulging elements attracting attention and a phone was one of them.
This is the new triumph basically, i mean what triumph supposed to be
Seems like Tim transitioned into a midfoot strike 🧐
Or I went back to the heel? But our foot strikes look very similar now indeed
@AlexFilitti Looks pretty much midfoot to me or maybe a tiny bit heel/mid
Fordy runs has a totally different opinion.
Well, my comment seems to have been deleted, I'd like to know why 😅
At a cheaper price maybe... the competitors like Adizero SL2 or the NovaBlast 4/5 , much better shoes. Simple shoes with a relatively high price.
How does it compare to Mizuno Neo Zen?
