Bordon is a fairly new brand that's based in Colombia, where all of their boots are handmade by local craftspeople. They occupy a pretty interesting space in the world of boots: they take a lot of cues from Pacific Northwest boots, like hardy vegetable tanned leather and extra durable, hard-to-make stitchdown construction. But their boots aren't heavy and overbuilt like a lot of those brands (think Nicks and Whites) tend to make their boots. So they're a great option for guys who like those traditionalist elements but want something a little easier to wear and works a little more easily as a casual, more subtle boot.

Would be cool if someone cut these in half to see how well they're built. :)
@RoseAnvil
If only there was such a TH-camr
@RoseAnvil would you happen to know of anyone? 🤔
Someone... 😁
Man this takes me back to when all your vids were new information for me. Really fun to learn more about this brand.
As a side note, I personally never mind when you explain leather to newbies. We were all new to this once right?
I'm really grateful you've followed me long enough to get a throwback vibe :D
I was writing this and realized I started it talking about Beckett Simonon and PNW boots and how little sense that would make to anyone stumbling on the video! Funny how it's all a different language after a while, trying not to fall into that trap of getting too insular
I have a pair of Tukano's in my rotation, I wore them this past week, the same day they opened ordering, it was raining, I stepped in a 1” deep puddle for the briefest second and water came right in the toe box, wasn’t too thrilled. I don’t think I’ll do another round. Edit: I don't want to discourage anyone from ordering a pair from Bordon, these are handmade, they're very nice, and look great, like all handmade boots they can come with small flaws, its part of the game and it makes the boots unique. A wet sock all day at work, timed with Nick's video release and Bordon's email of open ordering, just caught me in a bad moment. In this case, I may just need to wax the welt and seams then all will be well. The water came in at the front of the toe cap along the welt. Left boot, on the outside, to be specific. Point being, it may just be one small area that needs to be addressed. I'm headed to my cobbler later this week and I'll bring them along for an opinion. These things happen, its not the end of the world. I once ordered a pair of Fortis Chelsea boots, beautiful one piece construction, stunning pull up, with the gleaming polished sole edge you see from most Indo boots, went to put them on for the first time and the pull loop stitch blew out, I was hot in the moment, but afterwards, I just cut the loops off, which is my preference anyway. (pull loops have a tendency to catch my pants leg, bugs me). I've ordered several pair from them since. I'm sure more Bordon's are in my future too. Nick- It is nice to see you delving into boot reviews again. Not sure if this is your thing or not, but a video on kilties and lace upgrades would be a interesting bit.
It could be possible because they wasn't real captoe, so the water goes through the stitch of the captoe 🤔
How did you find the sizing? Ordering my Euro size would put me in a way larger US size than my Brannock size, never mind my Iron Ranger size.
Is the leather from the upper flared outward where the boot is stitched down? Can you test the right boot in your bath tub by stepping in 1" of water?
@@yalyworld Its flared out, a standard double row stitch down. I live on a boat, no bathtub to test in or sink large enough for that matter, and definitely not sticking any of my boots in the bay, heading to my cobbler today, so I'll let him do his thing.
@@InGrindWeCrust2010 there's conversion charts online, however, just like saying a meter is about 3 feet, its not exact, I tend to .5 size down in euro from my "chart converted" Brannock size
Classic boot review. I'll say for me Bordon has the edge on Beckett in which I can change the soles and have E widths. Fantastic video
hey nick! you forgot to mention arch support! i like that you always include it on your assessment. i hope you will keep doing that :)
It's great that you explain things for beginners, makes it accessible.
Thanks man! Yeah starting the video with 'here's how it compares to Beckett Simonon and pacific northwest boots' and then I was like 'oh this makes no sense to a beginner'
Nice Video Nick. I like the fact you show boots made from all over the world. These seem like decent boots. The wait time seems normal. I just waited almost 3 months for my Whites to get done. Should have them next week. These boots seem better on account of sizing and widths. So hard to find boots you recommend with a wider widths...Keep up the content..
Last week I received my pair of Isidro in wicket and craig green leather. They are perfect boots! I'm waiting for my Save the Ocean Tukano boots. Andres and his wife have been so helpful with getting my sizing right. These are handmade to order boots at a fraction of the cost of other big manufacturers.
Glad to see more exposure for the brand. Nothing but good things to say. They even have me wearing chelseas. Their Wanes service boots are generally my favs but the Tukano 2.0 have several cool enhancements. Highlighting Bordon's traditional approach and use of quality materials is spot on. They even make my boots in different sizes to accommodate my feet!
Different sizes for your feet! Now THAT's an awesome touch. Glad this vid resonated with you Dwight!
Bordon is temporarily open for orders NOW for like another week: stridewise.com/bordon-tukano-boots/
Also my tan jacket is Filson's Short Lined Cruiser: filson.sjv.io/Orbqkn
Jacket in outdoor shots is Thursday's Field Jacket: thursdayboots.com/products/mens-waxed-canvas-field-jacket-dark-olive
Black jeans are kato's: kato-brand.com/collections/jeans/products/301521005?variant=39759214182462&ktk=YnJHczhNLWUwOWE5NGRhNWNl
I think you would like the Meermin Waxy Commander. It's a dressy winter boot with shearling wool lining.
Good to back at it. Good video and breakdown 👍🏾
Thanks man! Getting back to my roots hehe
Love learning about new brands, specially if they're from my country. Thanks!
You are so welcome!
Great Video! I like that they’re a new company yet are immediately bringing out MARYAM and WICKETT & CRAIG which are exquisite vegtan leathers. I would have bought their Maryam calf leather boots but I really don’t like the look of the pattern.
Awesome boots! Great vid as always, I did find the music to be too loud at some points where it was competing with your voice like during the leather part.
Sorry man, the way it comes through varies based on your device, so it was fine on this end but I'll play it safer next time
That was my review on Reddit. Several months into my rotation and the Tukano 1.0 is holding up terrifically. Andres has been very nice and easy to work with. I have a 2.0 under construction in double shot leather.
Fantastic to hear dude!
I have some Nicks in W&C bridle and I don't think they'll ever break in! Those olive ones are killer looking though.
Orders close tomorrow so I just got in mine today. Here in time for Christmas. Hopefully
Great video. I have the olive Isidros coming soon. I hope I got the sizing right.
What a nailbiter, waiting to test the size
Your video convinced me to buy the V2 Tukano in Chestnut. Is there a way you can make a video comparing this boot to a Nick's or Truman boot?
Proud of my country! 🇨🇴
another excellent detailed review. I had no idea this brand even existed.
Yeah I turn down a lot of reviews when brands are boring, but this balance of PNW and city boot I thought was cool
I got my boots after a 7 month wait, a lot longer than I expected. The boot fit was roomy, I wear it with a thick sock for winter. (I ordered true to size so I knew it would be roomy). With the thick sock, it fits great and the boot has some heft to it that was a pleasent surprise. It is a pleasure to walk in it, not as hard as the iron ranger. One potential problem is the speed hook, it was bent outward after a full day, didn't expect that. I had the boots on tight but that never happened in any of my other boots so I am thinking that they use thinner speed hooks on their boots, I may have to go to a cobbler in the future to change the hooks to a heavier duty ones in the future. I read a comment on one of the facebook forums that mentioned this happened to them, it actually snapped off. They had to have a cobbler fix it. Since Bordon it is a new bootmaker, they are making rookie mistakes. I hope the next version has heavier speed hooks.
BTW, the comparison photos you put up between the 1.0 and 2.0 at 4:30 are both photos of the 2.0. The double layer toe cap and extra stitching are visible on both boots.
Great video Nick. I've been waiting for my Tukano Wicket and Craig latigo in black for quite a while. Communication from Bordon is good. Their email to me this morning may be of interest to everyone : "... . We had a delay because the first part of the production depended on a third party, who unfortunately was not on time with the production. We are speeding up all the orders right now, and we also are going to start producing all the boots since now 100% in-house, which would help reduce the production time and to be able to be on time..."
This is a great company and they deserve to do well.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m also waiting on a black Tukano from the May release. Last I heard they had moved into the stitching phase.
Hi I am a long time subscriber and I feel you should do an episode on Paraboot
Hey Nick I noticed that you had received the BLKBRD boots a little while ago but never saw a full review??
Do you find the blocked heel to be a bit clunky?
Or, would the dogged heel be a bit smoother if you walk a lot?
Awesome vid and thanks for the shoutout!
Yes, that's awesome Jordan. I'll make sure I read your article too.
The European sizing was my biggest worry when I ordered from their May 9, 2023 release. And again when I ordered the Isidro from their recent Save the Ocean promotion. But Andres replied promptly to my email and that helped. Great customer service at Bordon.
Yes! I'd say they should just not use EU sizing, or at least put. corresponding sizes on the site
On a 6 to 7 month wait as of April 2024
HOW WE WORK
We manufacture our boots exclusively on demand, which reduces waste and enables us to employ a more environmentally friendly production process.
Orders are opened throughout the year at various periods. After you place your order the production process might take between 4 - 5 months until orders are dispatched by DHL to the destination country.
Since we moved the production 100% inhouse we had experience a queue due to the delay of the third party and due to the improvements we have done. Based on that, for this year we would have to increase our production time to 6 to 7 months.
It's important to take into account that it is a handmade process, so it might takes longer in some cases.
Enjoying them will be the final stage!
They’ve increased the cost for their boot lineup. 😮
I have a pair of their Chelsea boots. They are amazing.
They look really cool!
What other boots offer Veg tan leather
More boot reviews Nick :)
but I just did one!!!!
Please review Coronado Leather Jackets.
Leather in Colombia is VERY cheap and good quality in Bogota there’s a place were you can get ANYTHING made out of leather in a very affordable way, I’m looking to make a watch travel case! But these boots look killer!!
That's awesome! Are you just emailing the leather place for a watch case? Your design or theirs? I'd like to learn more about colombian leather, it's cool that there's veg tan leather there
Colombia is not a producer of high end leathers, most of them are pigmented, the full grain ones or high end hides are exported to Italy, Argentina and another countries which have the capability to tanning the high end hides, the place you say in Bogota is called Restrepo but the leathers you find there are the worst ones, the only high end leather Colombia produce is the vegetable tanned used for soles insoles and heels not more.
The addition of 3 heel types (block, dogger, and woodsman) and more leathers on there regular models are just catapulting this brand’s value proposition. I’ve only see those heals with major tannery leather options in chelsea and service boots from PNW brands.
The only other exception I know of is the Thursday Vanguard in waxed cacao only, but that is not in the same league in fairness.
i have a pair of spanish made boots that have that orange leather insde
How tall are these?
The music drowns out the talking
damn it, i didn't notice. i think it depends on whether you use headphones or not, etc. will make adjustments
@@Stridewise thank you
Stomach the wait time? (3-4 months) Are they worth the wait? ONLY you can answer this question.
Hey Nick, who makes that dark gold jacket you’re wearing?
That's Filson's short lined cruiser!
I am a 9 1/2 on the branack device but I wear a 10 in Iron ranger and every other boot and I'm a normal size person? I could never wear a half size down and I'm size 11 in sneakers?
Sounds like my case was. On the end i leaned guys in Red wing store meshured my feet wrong. You need to know heel to ball and heel to toe meshurments as well as width. Than you can say better what is going on there and you can better understand what is your size
Isn't a deal, just order the same size as your usual iron rangers
I see you Nick shooting this video and the B roll for your waxed jacket comparison at the same time lol. Were you getting funny looks wearing jackets in an NYC summer heat?
hahahaha!!! very perceptive. turns out Thursday sent me a discontinued version so I have to refilm it all, god damn it. I did get funny looks but more because I had a cameraman circling me than because of the jacket! Normally New Yorkers don't care about a camera but because I'm filming in Times Square all the tourists think it's fascinating
@Stridewise all the tourists: "Look, Mom! A real-life influencer in the wild!!!"
Great video as always.
Their sizing is challenging. Usually my Euro size is equivalent to US 10-11 but by their scale it's showing US 11-12. I'm not on Insta so hope they're on FB or something (I'm old). Edit: Guess I'll email them.
Take a look at their size chart do not order in European
Also they are on FB as a Bordon Handmade boots
@@PiloSil as *Bordon Colombia
@@PiloSil I did. The size chart is not helpful. Thanks for the FB suggestion!
@@InGrindWeCrust2010umm and what about an email?
Great video, but please turn off the music. I can’t hear you.
I never pulled the trigger on these because of the E width which is confusing and risky, Bordon did not provide a clear answer on sizing.
I'd say order true to size E or your "boot size" EE and you'll be fine
Feels comparable to Grant Stone in build...and price range. Maybe I'm missing something here having not seen and held either one in person.
nah Grant Stone doesn't do stitchdown, or wickett and craig leathers. Don't think they do any US veg tan leather actually. plus it's a different design
And it’s got leather shank and is more of a beefy design in many ways, plus all made by less thank a handful of people. While grant stone is a slightly larger, but still small, well oiled machine with motte refined designs.
I think the US maker these most compare to is Truman since they're sort of the chonk aesthetic but not as tanky as the true PNW brands. Though, they're doing stitchdown like Truman used to and does no longer (since switching to all GYW). Truman is about $100 more on average.
Yeah they seldom do veg tan or stitchdown, plus Bordon are def less chunky, but I see that comparison
Not a big fan of their patterns but I’m sure they’ll keep getting better
What is wrong with them in your opinion?
@@simonpijnenburg4406 I don't like the small heel counter. I own way too many boots so at this point any small details matter to me.
Where do you get your overshirts?? 😃
That jacket is Filson's tin cloth short cruiser!
You sure that’s not a leather shank? Photo looked like similar shank to a nicks/whites. These are some good looking made boots!
Your right they switched to leather earlier this year
Ahhh it USED to be a steel shank! Damn it. That's another rare, traditionalist touch I would have liked to highlight
How do they compare to Grantstone?
Heavier, Grant Stone doesn't do US veg tan or anything this stiff I think, Bordon has leather shank, plus the stitchdown is a big differentiator. The design is just different too, more rugged than Grant Stone's stuff which is closer to smart casual
@@Stridewisethank you for the response. I was curious about it too
Bordawn lol you got me to buy the boots same tukanos but I ended up getting the commando soles with the leather laces imo leather laces look cleaner and are a game change oh its Bordon M8 jk 😂😂😂😂😂
I need a budget just for your videos 😅
😂😂😂😂Right
Many guys have told me their wives hate me hahah
I wish I was living in NY, filthy rich, and wearing expensive boots too. Until then - TH-cam reviews it is 😅 Joke, thanks for the video mate!!
I’m from the Bronx; A lot of poor mofos in NY. Any of these boots can be bought collecting cans/bottles and cashing in the deposit. You figure $10 a day collecting cans for a month and you have a pair of boots that will last 10 years.
@@strengthandbulkMadnesshey mate, more a joke than anything. I see your point tho. I cut all unnecessary spending to get RW 875s & Iron Rangers... 8 years ago. //edit, actually 9 😳 time flies...
@@ivansotirov2457Pretty good 👍
The average Colombian would have to spend their monthly pay to buy a pair of those. An American can buy a Northwest Pacific boot with a week’s pay. Just thought I’d throw that out there, haha.
wait til you hear about tshirts made in Bangladesh
@@StridewiseJust got some rayon shirts made in Bangladesh for $42. They were on sale at Express.
I'd still take any Indonesian brand (Sagara, Renav, Jakkrabbits, Onderhoude, etc.) over Bordon. They use fake dainight, fake vibram soles, single leather mid soles, and don't offer Badalassi, Horween, or higher end Shinki. At Renav and Sagara you can literally get CXL leather boots with Dr sole soles, double leather mid soles, etc ALL for 350 to 450. These brands actually sell Shell Horsehide boots for less than $700... for $350 I'd still go with a half dozen of the Indonesian brands or Quan shoemaker and Iron Boots in China before I go with Bordon... if you compare them JUST to the US brands, YES, they are definitely a good deal. Compared to the worldwide market, No.
Hard to hear review with the music - you really don’t need it
