    We used this video as a guide for seeking our NLV from the Los Angeles Consulate. This video was extremely useful. In general, I found the actual interview to be way less stringent than this video implied it would be(I'm not complaining!). I was way over prepared for the interview, they only needed about half of the info that I had prepared. Even though we are clearly at retirement age, the consulate really seemed eager to see a notarized letter of intent confirming we had no intention of working in Spain. Also, they only wanted enough proof of IPREM income to confirm the minimum, no need to confirm absolutely every penny from every account that you have. The emphasis of having everything stamped seemed to be exaggerated, too; just a good translation seemed to be enough. We were the only people there the whole time. There was no one there before us or after us, that seemed strange since there were appointments available at ten minute intervals when we booked ours. The interviewer was super friendly, frankly, we thought it was easy. Best of luck to everyone.

      How long was your fbi back ground check go for before getting your appointment ?
      is it 3 months ?

    • @clinterz
      @clinterz 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah the FBI check was the biggest hassle and took the longest time. We sent the documents to the FBI and waited a month before starting the process for the other documents that the Visa requires. I got mine directly from the FBI, but my wife had problems because her finger prints were not clear enough. She eventually got an acceptable background check (the 3rd set of prints submitted were accepted) from the DOJ of our state(California). The state background check was much faster than the FBI check. I don't think that every Spanish consulate will accept a state background check, however. The copies of our marriage license expired before we could get an appointment with the consulate, so we had to get those twice. Got them back with the apostle from Nevada with about 10 days to spare before the Visa appointment.

    Hey there,
    Just saw your video in one of the Facebook groups!
    As an Immigration Consultant, I have to say you guys are champions!
    Getting through the Spanish Consulate in LA is pretty tough, especially when you want to apply between July and October (that's the busiest period in the Spanish Consulates in the US). Well done indeed!
    As a tip from me, should you plan on renewing your NLVs, open up a Spanish bank account and transfer the funds for years 2 and 3 there (minimum funds are x2 the ones for the initial NLV - keep that in mind) - getting proof of funds from a Spanish bank account is much easier + it is all in Spanish + most banks already know they have to stamp everything.
    Enjoy España!

    Congrats on getting your NLV! I applied for mine in late November 2021, and my experience was similar to yours. I even spent about the same amount on translations! The main differences for me included being able to get my background check/apostille from Colorado (this took 2.5 weeks) since I had lived there for more than the previous five years, and I did not have to get my 1040 tax forms translated. (I asked the L.A. consulate beforehand, and they explicitly told me I did not need to get them translated.)
    It also took seven weeks for my NLV application to be approved instead of two weeks for the two of you. Maybe they are getting faster!

    Thank you for taking the time to shoot and edit this video. Sounds nerve wracking, but not as bad as applying for an American visa. I have a friend from Costa Rica and in that American consulate people can only apply for a tourist visa once every 6 months and I've heard that some of the consulate workers behind the windows can be pretty condescending. Even though it was stressful for you two, I think you'll enjoy your time in Europe. There's no mass shootings, people value quality of life over breathing and living just to work. Technically you can have a mortgage, but you have to prove you have a HUGE amount of funds to cover it. It's much more difficult to get approved if you have one. Have a question. You said if you stay 5 years you can apply for reaidency.luckily if you were born in a latin american country or any other former colony of spain you can apply for citizenship in 2 years and im interested in trying this.
      But here is my conundrum. I live in the u.s and have both a u.s and a. Latin american passport. My latin am passport. Has my birth name and my u.s passport has my legal name which i changed to when i naturalized. If i were to apply for this. Visa keeping in mind i later want the spanish citizenship which passport would i use? Im worried the name discrepancy can affect something if i use the u.s passport. But the bank acount statements would use my legal american name.
      Any advice?

    Hey guys - I have a couple of questions, regarding translators: 1). How did you ultimately select one? Was it based on price? Location? 2) is the price you list for translation for both of you? Meaning, could one person expect to pay about half that amount? 3). Did you email electronic documents or mail hard copies to the translator? Thanks!

    • @DaysWeSpend
      @DaysWeSpend  ปีที่แล้ว

      1. We emailed about 10 translators in the USA asking if they were available. The 2 that got back to us became our translators.
      2. Yes, the price is for both of us. So that's double all the documents and some of it was extra for the rush fees.
      3. One translator sent us hard copies and we had to scan them and print copies. Another translator emailed us his scans and we had to color print them ourselves.
      Good luck!

      We had to buy a year of insurance before we were accepted. We're not sure what happens if you are rejected. Perhaps is possible to get a refund through your health insurance broker.
