    National Radio Award Presentations from Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London. The Awards are known as 'Tommys'.
    MS Ben Lyon and Bebe Daniels arriving. SV Vera Lynn arriving and being greeted. MV two guests seated at table. SV Boxing commentator Raymond Glendenning at table. SV Radio Comedian Sam Costa clowning with programme at table. SV Richard Dimbleby at table. SV Lind Joyce and Newspaper Columnist Rex North at table. SV Wilfred Pickles and wife at table.
    SV Ted Kavanagh pan to Gladys Young receiving award. SV Gladys Young acknowledging applause. CU Wilfred Pickles clapping. SV Script writer Ted Kavanagh saying: "Right at the top of the poll stood James McKechnie, just where one would expect him." James McKechnie receives award and acknowledges applause.
    MV Kavanagh saying: "And the final award for the show of the year goes to 'Take It From Here". CU Vera Lynn laughing. MV Dick Bentley, Jimmy Edwards and Joy Nichols. Bentley says: "Thank you, thank you ladies and gentlemen. For my first group of songs tonight...." Joy Nichols interposes: "Dick, Dick, we're not here to sing." Bentley: "Isn't this the East Finchley Working Men's Institute club and social night?" Edwards: "Oh,Bentley, we go on there afterwards. This carve up, this is the one we do for nothing."
    Edwards: "Bentley, have you a few words you'd like to say?" Bentley: "Yes, certainly. Some years ago I was....." Edwards: "Thank you Bentley, we'll let you know. We really ought to take this thing seriously for after all today, instead of taking the mickey, we are taking the microphone. (He laughs). That was an award one, was it not? Yes it was."
