I’m here because of Astro Bot. I have a bad memory when it comes to childhood times but as soon as I saw the apes in Astro bot I had to look this up and wow I remember this game vividly now haha
This game here is still one of my most favorite PS1 games as well as one of my most favorite games overall too in the Ape Escape series! Such a timeless classic! I even still have the physical copy of this game on the game disc for PS1 as well as the digital version of the game from the PlayStation Store for both PS4 and PS5 already!
I want to send love to everyone in the comments. You are all dropping an overload of nostalgia. Ape Escape, Crash, Spyro, Meganan, etc. I'm glad this era of gaming is such a comfort zone and that we treasure these memories. I was born in '94 and grew up with these games on PS1. Sometimes it genuinely hurts that I'll never experience the novelty of playing these games for the first time and how simple life was back then. I've had a lot of early success in my career. But I still get nostalgic and listen to the Galaxy Monkey theme when I'm working on a project at work. When I plan travel to a new place, I imagine that I'm in the Time Warp Station about to enter the level. My S/O and I's next journey is to Switzerland. When we bought the plane ticket, the music and imagery of the Hot Springs level (mountain phase) ran through my mind. That jaxzy Skyscraper City song goes through my head when I'm in a big city or interviewing in a corporate building. Come to think of it, I think that games like Ape Escape are WHY i love travel so much. I always wished that I could be in some of the levels. Spyro 3, the home world with the underwater castle. Ape Escape 2, the Egypt level. Ape Escape, Crabby Beach and Ninja Hideout. Almost every level of the Jak & Dakster series. Most of the levels of Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and Okage. The village in Brave Fencer Musashi. It's crazy how much these memories mean. Things like Ape Escape literally got coded into our DNA. I did not see that coming.
I think one of the coolest things this game does is to change the background music whenever you crawl. Many games do this but this one does it just so epically.
Not really, there were games before this one that used the dualshock, it's just that Ape Escape was one of the first to use both joysticks properly. The alien 2000 fps game is another that I can think of.
This game here is one of my most favorite PS1 games as well as one of my favorite Ape Escape games too along with Ape Escape 2 for PS2 since those two games in particular are my most favorite Ape Escape games. Even though Ape Escape was originally released for the PS1 back in 1999, I first played this game back in 2004, five years after this game first came out, on an old PS1 Pizza Hut demo disc which also included a few other PS1 games such as Crash Team Racing and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater which I still remember. Then, for my 13th birthday that same year, I got the full version of Ape Escape on PS1 for my birthday at the time along with Ape Escape 2 for PS2 as well since I got both games for my birthday back in the summer of 2004. I still have a lot of wonderful memories with both games and I even still remember staying up very late one night playing Ape Escape on PS1. In fact, I actually stayed up the whole night that one time playing it since I didn't get to sleep until early in the morning which was insane! Those were the good ol' days. I still have the original copy of Ape Escape on the physical game disc for PS1 including the digital version of the game which I have on PS4 which was recently released as part of the classic games lineup for the new PlayStation Plus service even though I don't really have PS Plus myself.
I really recommend checking out 3, that one was my perdonal favorite as it feels way more like a proper sequel than 2 with lots more valuable gameplay mechanic improvements
@@nikodem123asdf I actually have Ape Escape 3 already for PS2 and I've played it before too which is also pretty good, but thanks anyway though for the advice. as an adult I still think the health bar are Ritz crackers

Townhouse crackers!
They are cookies in the later games they have chocolate chip 🍪 s that refill the entire health bar
Such great memories I had with this game.
I enjoy this game more now than when I was a kid.
