Fun fact abt me irl: after hearing Kel’s scream for Hector the rock, me and my friends instantly went out of our way to find a random rock, draw a face on the rock, and write hector on the bottom. Hector is now in my room reading a book. For some reason he never turns the page and is forever on page 1.
Someone else in the comments had a similar issue. Have you tried going inside the Barn in the otherworld beforehand? (It's on the lower left of the Cattail Field)
