    And the saga continues!
    This is my first exposure to the Dark Sun setting and it's pretty awesome so far. Post-apocalyptic fantasy at its best right here!

    This campaign should be really easy given how Jerry generally rolls

    It's always interesting, when a campaign group has an extremely low INT/WIS member, the entire party loves to "help" them roleplay their PC

    One thing just occurred to me; even if you roll a 20, would a negative ability score matter? Even a man with poor vision can get lucky with a shot once in a while.

      wildside316 Every DM is different, but it usually goes like this.....20's always hit and 1's always miss.

      Vital Blurs DnD Seems universally accepted :). Thank you :).

      +wildside316 Normally a natural 1 always misses, regardless of the modifiers. The same should apply to a Natural 20. That's how it plays out at my table, as well as at the table of another local DM.

      Not according to the rules. The nat 20/1 rules applies to attacks and saves, but not checks. For example according to the common misreading of this rule you could normally jump a few feet, but you always have a 5% chance that you can jump a zillion feet as long as you declared the distance beforehand, which is ludicrous. Most people either willfully ignore this though, or have just been taught incorrectly and never bothered to actually read the rules.

      As a DM myself, and that opinion is shared by every DM I've ever played with, the 1 and 20 only work for attacks. If you roll a 1 but have a +15 and the DC is 10, you succeed, and if you roll a 20 but have a -5 and the DC is 17, you fail.

    Where the fuck did the character find an Iron Bastard Sword in Athas? Must be the richest character ever.

      LoneDeer I think Jerry gave them better-than-usual weapons for their level so the campaign didn't take eight hours. Three encounters and a puzzle usually takes more time than this.

    Where is the art from?

    • @VitalBlursDnD
      @VitalBlursDnD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried to use game / book concept art owned by TSR (or Wizards of the Coast) wherever possible. I think the art for this episode might've been actual art for Dark Sun from the time it was in production.

    HE HAS A BASTARD SWORD?!!!

    • @Bilderrahmenjoe

      I haven't played in the Dark Sun Campaign Setting yet, so I wonder: why is having a Bastard Sword so suprising? Are they that rare?

    • @Chatedh
      @Chatedh 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      metal on Dark sun is very very very rare, so yeah, having a bastard sword would be very surprising. taht's why there lots of weapons made out of obsidian or bone

    • @Chatedh
      @Chatedh 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, you don't make that sort of weapons with obsidian or bone, in fact the book for fading suns had several unique weapons made of these materials.

    ya, jerry, you shoulda gave them a couple successful hits in that initial exchange, not to damage the elven adversaries, but to give the pc's a sense of accomplishment; and not factored in their fake (DM Fiat'ed) hits into the enemy npc's hp pools.
    Remember, that you are first and foremost a story teller. and letting the heroes have a sense of victory through their challenges breeds that sense of heroism in your players. You are building on their sense of making progress in each of their heroes journey. The object isn't to be them vs the dice, or you the DM vs the players, but to create a balance of tension for heroes to overcome odds and progress through your campaign. the dice, only serve to make the metagaming players aware of their failures. you could very well explain away to your pc's why dice rolls that hit in the first round, weren't good enough to hit in a second round of effort, by a solidified , concerted effort of the enemy. dice are just the players means of making sense of the game around them to try to remove the chaotic atmosphere of combat.

    I like this podcast but the one thing that annoys me is Jerry, he talks to way much, he interrupts the players, and when the players are talking to each other, trying to play and figure out what to do next, Jerry just answers all the riddles and tells them what to do.
