”Funds pending” or ”Fun spending”? :-) One suggestion for a cheap synth with polyphony is the Plinky synth. Pros: it has a rich sound, polyphony and beautiful ambient pads. Cons: It is difficult to get hold of (waiting list at Thonk) and is less versatile and controllable than a more traditional synth. But I have one and I love it and it totally suits a portable rig as it runs from USB power.
Ah the ever present problem of a mobile skiff with enough scope to allow you to do what you want to do. Will be interesting Ben to see how you go about this and in the end what compromises you will have to make.
Truly I just want to hire a team to move my studio to every gig 😂. Thanks for watching as always, it’s so cool to see how you have kept up with what I do. I’ll be updating as things progress!
Hey ben, I’ve been trying to figure this out myself. I’ve been wanting to build a single suitcase-sized box that i can fit all my music gear in so i can not fall into the same “six boxes” problem. Right now, my plan is to build a hinged case (roughly 7u 104hp size) and have the top part be a big modular, and the bottom fit my microfreak, my DIY generative sequencer, and the mixer, but there’s problem after problem with cost and size and power (making music off the electric grid) because i constantly want to keep going bigger. I do think there’s merit in the idea though, building your modular and pedal board together into a box could result in space on the pedal board for your poly synth, maybe getting one of those small pedal-sized mixers, and pedals and the keystep. Just a thought :)
Hey, thanks for the thoughts! I’d love to know what you are planning on using for your case. I’m terrible with DIY but I could commit to something if I even knew where to start… I would love to eventually get to the point where I have power, all instruments, and everything else in one case, and all I have to do is connect one power plug, and stereo outs… so I’d love some notes for what suitcase you are looking at using! Thanks for the comment, and I’d love to hear more about the generative sequencer!
@@ambientbenji it's been a back and forth with myself about what to do honestly. On one hand, buying an instrument case and pulling out the foam would certainly not be the most cost effective but would definitely be the easiest. The other end of the spectrum is making a wood box, which would certainly be the most cost effective but not easy. I think if you could at the very least find a modular case that is a bit bigger, you could probably mount it into the lid of a box you could set your big pedal board into. And the generative sequencer started as a DIY monome grids but has slowly kept growing. Maybe once i can get around to making an enclosure and a little more code progress, I can show you more.
in regards to a mixer, I think the most compact, versatile and budget-friendly solution could be the 802vlz4
I’ll definitely take a look! Thank you’

That’s a great idea! I’ll give it a look ASAP!!!
Thanks. I needed this video!
Thank you! I needed it too… just to get something out there. Glad you liked it!
