    Hi David,
There’s only 4 reactions left on this album, the patient, parabol and parabola (should be done as 1 song but do parabola if you think both would be too long), ticks & leeches, then disposition/reflection/triad it’s one song in 3 parts often referred to as the holy trinity, please try to do it as one (21 minutes) reaction.
Parabol is a soft gentle buildup to parabola so you only miss a bit of the feel of the song but disposition/reflection/triad are 3 distinct movements and you would miss out on the overall experience doing these individually.
Plus I’m pretty sure Pneuma is written in 33/8 with multiple ways of making the 33/8 being used.

What an epic meltdown on their time signatures. Seriously, I love seeing it. Dave, this is kind of a dig, but meant in a good way. The fact that you and so many others are so perplexed by their time signatures shows how much deeper they are than the majority of people as well as most in the industry. TOOL is not for everyone, but I think that is because most people want simple easy stuff and don't have the depth to experience it. Please keep it coming.

Man, always nice to see someone about to learn that the pieces fit.
Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion, between supposed lovers.
Great video man, really like your breakdowns, but I appreciate you then go back and let it play.

David TOOL is a ONCE IN A LIFETIME BAND. Start at the beginning and listen in order and you'll hear and experience the growth of the band.
Early TOOL is raw and angry. Present TOOL is Progressive Rocks gift.
This is an ALBUM ORIENTED BAND and the Artwork and engineering is at the highest level. People miss out on the ALBUM experience. This band has backword messages, hidden tracks, 3D glasses and Artwork and Vynl. Who does that anymore. TOOL does that. 🔥

Excellent break down, Tool takes a long time to release music, I think they start with no time signatures in mind at all , one of them just starts playing till they get the vibe or groove they really like and presenting it to the others then they all add in elements that fit that groove. And then they polish and find the signatures that logically completes the song. Its why it takes so long.. I dunno just a pure layman guess. Nonetheless they are amazing, one of the best bands ever imo... Always fun watching you react to tool. But if I were you, as much of a backlog you have.. and want to listen to that album do it ! 🤘✌

21:09 - I could see Adam and Danny having their own Pythagorean school where they're drawing geometric figures in the sand with a stick and trying to figure out whether the Neoplatonist source of all that is is more present in a 21/8 or an 27/8. They probably do it to mess with themselves though and since they're veteran musicians it hits anyone else that much harder.

5/8 - 7/8 really is 12/8 "They split it, and made it sound far more complex than it really is." Could it possibly have anything to do with the title and lyrics of the song? I am not a rythm genious, but so happy you explained this in this exact way. IMO theres a corelation there. As schism means a split or divide, and the lyrics are about an argument between lovers, wich often is made more complex than it needs to be. You know the pieces fit, but you still want to argue before coming to an understanding! Im curious now if there is any point in the song or album where the rythm isnt split :P

Man never feel bad about taking up time figuring it out on your instruments, it was really cool to watch. I picked up a bass not too long ago and it’s been so much fun trying to learn so I was in awe watching you figure it out so fast.
As much as I want to watch you react to all the songs on the album in their proper groupings, I think I’d rather you listen to the whole album yourself on your own time when you’re in the right mood for it and play it all the way through without stopping at all. Then do a synopsis video afterwards once you gather all your remarks and tell us what you thought. I’m not really fond of the broken up choppy album listens and I don’t think anyone wants to watch a full album reaction in real time, so just an idea. Because this album definitely needs a front to back undivided attention listen to really appreciate why so many people say it’s their peak.

@davidheretic - As far as the time signatures go, the whole band embraces 'mixing it up' but I truly believe Danny Carey is to blame. Dude is flat out nuts in the best way possible. Absolute unit of a Drummer that the entire band plays off of. MJK deserves TONS of credit for being able to write such intense lyrics and fit them around all the time changes. Really each of them, Adam and Justin too. Band is best ever.

One of my favorite Tool songs of al time. If I remember correctly, the band said there are around 50 time signature changes and the overall time signature of the song is "6.5/8"

You liked how they flipped the 5/8, 7/8 to 7/8, 5/8.... Inversion Went perfectly with the lyrics switching from i know the pieces fit to there was a time when the pieces fit...

David, if you were to do a reaction to the entire album, that would be great to watch, but I'd be a little worried about you. Afraid that you'd end up losing your mind and end in in a sanitarium you know just sitting in a corner repeating three words over and over: "Damn it, Tool!". But he'll would be a great idea for a reaction . Stay safe

@7:12 exactly. Even if I don’t love a tool song, I’ll like it because it’s so original.

I liked Tool enough from hearing Sober and the various singles from Aenima on rock radio in the mid-to-late 90s
But this song (the lead single off this album) is what sold me on loving this band. That breakdown at the end is astounding.

i do like hearing you find out the time signatures and such but i feel like you're missing the beauty of the songs itself by focusing too much on counting measures. still good reaction tho. just a thought

David, amazing video! Quick thought.. Everything in Tool's music is so purposeful, I have a hard time believing that they picked the number 27 out of a hat. Likely, Maynard's cat was born on the 27th, or something like that. (The song Mantra, that leads into Schism is a recording of Maynard's cat, tweaked with post processing, so that's why I picked the cat as a subject.)
Some of the core principles underlying Tool's music lie in numerology and sacred geometry, evidently. So, are they messing with us? Yes. Is it random? Possible, but not likely.

I recently discovered Tool. I know nothing about writing or reading music. Always been a Led Zeppelin fan . Six months ago I accidentally listened to ,"The Pot" . Instant
Tool Fan. As a Bass player you should give it a try. Trust me.. He Rips it up!!!

    Lateralus must review?:
    1. The Grudge
    3. The Patient
    5. Schism - This video, so uh. yeah.
6.7.Parabol/Parabola - have to be done together. The transition is stark, but they do go together and should be reviewed that way(imho).
    8. Ticks and Leeches
    9. Lateralus
    11. Reflection
    12. Triad - largely instrumental, but still good.
Don't blame you for wanting to dive into the album. It's pretty much all awesome, just a few are sort of instrumental transitions and perhaps not worth a whole review.
Obviously you do you, but I'm sure these will all eventually get a request.

That's one of the best Tool's songs...don't think too much about time, dynamic, technics, whatever, enjoy the song and you'll have less headaches...trust me, I learned the hard way...I'm a drummer....man alive!!...was I pulling my hair...!!! (Scored?....I figures 9.2....I was closed !)
