Sometimes I mention Chris to people and they have heard about him. They ask what kind of music does he play. I'm always stumped. I say sort of folky blues or bluesy folk but that does really cover. I tell them to just go and listen to him. The greatest thing about Chris's music is that he's just Chris.
He’s a great guy too. My son is a guitar player and Chris was his main hero at the time. Our son was around 14 at the time and Smither spent about 20 minutes talking with him. My son still plays now at 36. But it was really nice Chris took him seriously and spoke with him guitar player to guitar player. Meant a lot to me too.
I was lucky enough to get to a performance Chris gave in Adelaide a few years back. Absolutely loved his work then and still. Fabulous, authentic and so so observant of life.

of course it's a recording, but not in the ordinary sense. seriously, he embodies a smoothe New Englannd routed gentleman to the West Coast to lay or sprinkle the occasional apple seeds to complete the orchestra.
Hi, man! Could you help me out with the lyrics for that song? I'm a big fun of chris but I'm not a native nglish speaker, I'm missing some words here...
Brilliance.

What kind of music does Chris play? Mind blowingly great music.
One of the best singer songwriters. Saw him once in Britain where he was excellent. This is a great song. Long may he continue.

Somebody give this man a Nobel Prize.

This is what guitaring & sliding is about - what a virtuosity crammed on a few square feet ;-))
electric one string diddley bow. That's what you call it, huh? :) Outstanding!
You’re the best Chris. Thanks for the music and humor
This is such a sweet, honest, down home recording. The man is a pleasure to listen to. Long may he continue.

Such a gem! Song and artist both!
Fabulous performer and really good man.
Chris used to visit Traverse City at least once a year. I sure miss his visits.

Nobody Home Lyrics
I’ve been looking all over
Trying to find a place to lay my head
I used to have a house and a spouse
Now it’s hers instead
I thought I had a friend
I was knocking on his door
Trying to remind him what friends are for
But I think he’s dead
I saw his neighbor on the front porch looking pretty stoned
His dog was in the backyard
Chewing on a bone
There’s nobody home
Nobody home
I saw a church with a sign it was open
So I stepped inside
It said “double your misery back if you ain’t satisfied “
I thought, this deal can’t last, I better cash in quick
Get it all done before I get too sick to find my way outsidе
I saw a Saint with his mouth open, carved out of stone
A prеacher with his mouth shut staring at his phone
But there’s nobody home
There wasn’t nobody home
I saw a big white house down on Pennsylvania avenue
I said “open up the gate, this can’t wait”, and they said “who are you?”
I said I was a citizen trying to cut a deal for a Russian unicycle with a missing wheel
They let me through
I saw a clown with a comb-over trying to float a loan through the CIA while he tweeted on his phone
But there’s nobody home
There wasn’t nobody home
It’s getting hard to maintain connections in a personal way
Everybody wants to text but they ain’t got nothing to say
Yeah believe me when I tell you it’s like being alone hanging out with numbers in a cyber zone
Yeah you pay to play
It’ll drive you crazy right around the bend
Pretty soon you’re talking to yourself again
And there ain’t nobody home
Nobody home
What a fine live vid. Seems impromptu, which is how it should be, did this come from a recording?

routed gentleman to the West Coast to lay or sprinkle the occasional apple seeds to complete the orchestra.
Yep--it's one of the songs on the new album "Call Me Lucky", just came out last week.
This would have been a good song for John Prine !
" I saw a clown with a comb-over , trying to float a loan/ through the CIA while he tweeted on his phone".....😁

Wit, Wisdom and "what de ..uck did he just say?" ... that's funny or is it sad?
My Morphine habit brought me here.
Richard, the band or the drug?
I mean to say does NOT really cover it.
Too bad he had to go political. I'm out.
I thought he nailed it pretty well actually. 🤠
Political?
Political!!!!!! WHAT!!!!!!. Incredibly moronic interpretation.
