J McClain Grundy as always had very simplistic design so the one from Gotham doesn't bother me
I think they just tried to recreate the character without spending much money on the design

Neat video. Technically 2004 "The Batman" version wasn't really Grundy, but Clayface in disguise. However the design still resembled the real Grundy in the comic for the show. Also, some adaptations where left out like 2017 JL Action and a few minor roles in video games.

It really is. However, this could be a result of how he comes back to life. According to his lore, he is always resurrected with random levels of intelligence of strength. At one time, he was strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Superman, and another time, he was a feared gang boss.
Then again, in The Batman 2004, this Solomon Grundy was Clayface pretending to scare people on Halloween based on the scary story about the legend of Solomon Grundy, which was considered a myth in Gotham. By the end of the episode, it was evident that he was real when his hands rises out of the march in Slaughter Swamp, where the legend took place.
In a way, Clayface was just over exaggerating the myth.

It was inferred....the nursery rhyme was used and the name Solomon Grundy was used, but it wasn't "assigned" to anyone really...I think it was just a nod to the audience.
