The 3ds is my favorite, my family wasn't fortunate enough to afford the game boy when it came out. But in 2011 I got my first DS, the first console I ever had, (sadly I gave it away 🤦) then I got my 3ds a few years later. I absolutely love the library of games that you have with it and hold it dearly to me for being my entry into gaming. Great video and thank you for being an amazing person, TH-camr, and friend!!🥰
You fixed this on my wedding day anniversary. I'll remember this day forever. Maybe because of the getting married. Maybe because of your 3DS repair. You can pick!
I disassembled my N3DS to clean the button contacts (my buttons did not work). However, I broke spring ribbon cable connector connecting the microphone, an important component form some games I enjoy. All after modding it. I was defeated. This video is very relatable. 10/10
I love these kind of videos man. Just nice close ups and some commentary on it. I'll probably never take apart a new 3DS, but still enjoyed this so much.
This is why I’m not cheap when taking my consoles for repair, as well as never attempt to do it myself, I’m more of a player than a fixer lol great video and thank you for your relaxing editing
only handheld i've ever done was a psp 3000, i frakensteined it together out of multiple broken psps when i was a teenager (it still works til this day)
I can 100% relate to "loss of sleep" over stuff like this stuff lol. Nothing like finishing a project and then seeing ONE small flaw you didn't notice. You're too tired to fix it in the moment cuz its working, but it just haunts you until you do.
As a person who specializes in genealogy and peerage, I must add that the product advertised does NOT make you a Lord. A Lord is a member of Scottish peerage which consists of titles above Baron (as Baronies in Scotland are equivalent to Lords of the Manor, which technicaly aren't Lords). I am unsure of the legality of putting "Lord" in your name next to your credit card but I would NOT advise it. There is no legal basis in such a thing and there is absolutely no way to buy your way into peerage other than donating a few million pounds to the Tories maybe and asking for one on behalf of HRH. The Lord Lyon has officially denounced these buying of tiny land plots and has explicitely established they do NOT make you a "Laird" or a "Lord. I am not dissapointed in Elliot for accepting this sponsor, but I am warning fellow viewers to beware and look into what you're buying.
I tried repairing my New 3DS to get the D-Pad cleaner and more responsive. I broke two latches and Nintendo ended up sending me a replacement unit. I have nothing but admiration for people who can actually repair these things without breaking anything.
I get it. I really do. I'm the same way. Little things like that haunt me until I finally get a chance to repair or resolve them. I had a co-worker once try to show me something on one of my brand new 24" monitors. Instead of just pointing, they put their greasy finger on my screen to identify whatever ultimately meaningless and trivial matter was so important to them. I had literally just removed the protective cover and now they left behind this festering blemish on my glorious, new screen. I didn't have the proper cloth or cleaning solution at that moment and had to wait until I got home that evening to retrieve them. I couldn't shake it off. No matter what I did I kept thinking about that stupid fingerprint. The next morning I hurried in there and properly removed it until I'm sure no trace was left behind on the atomic scale. Sweet release... now it was revenge time. I noticed a lovely coworker brought us all a lovely selection of pastries. I carefully selected the most artery-clogging donut in the box, ensured every molecule of exterior grease and other delicious attributes made their way onto my hand and then wandered over to the offenders desk and pointed out something on his screen with all five fingers and some palm action. When my hand left the screen it looked like a crime scene. I could feel the universe balancing itself at that exact moment. He's never touched my screen again.
You are legitimately the only person I know who has made a video about taking apart the new 3ds, every single video is about the new 3ds xl or the new 2ds xl.
I just finished doing a trace repair on my cousins old Pokémon Sapphire. His mother gave it to me when I was still really young, but he gotten cola in it. I’ve been learning to solder for almost a year now and I thought it would be nice to fix it up, check out his team, but most importantly return it to him after all these years. I hope he appreciates it and gives it to his own kid. He very well might just sell it but it would nice if he can share the a game he likely put a lot of time into as a kid, with his own son. 😊 But first I need to make sure it works, probably should’ve done that before getting mine and anyone else’s hopes up 😅. Update: IT WORKS! I can’t believe it, I’ve got the biggest smile on my face right now. 😁
My first repair was on a Gameboy Micro I definitely regretted that probably took it apart like 15 times (even after watching your video on it). Then I decided would be a good time to take apart my Gameboy Color. Should've done that in reverse order was absolutely amazed how easy it was. Your videos are always a joy to watch and have inspired me to keep collecting and fixing things. So I guess with that I just wanted to thank you Elliot.
Yeah, the Switch is a little like this. And the reason for the modularity is for ease of not only fabrication, but being able to source parts from multiple places to account for failures - one in every however many parts will come off the line defective and get missed by QA, and so rather than needing to toss or repair the whole thing, you can just sub in another daughterboard/motherboard.
Interesting how differently it's designed from the XL, even though on the outside they look identical. For example, the SD reader module is a completely different design, this has it attached to the case (for some reason) with a modular plastic piece, where the XL has it attached to the board (which makes a lot more sense), I wonder why they did that.
Absolut entspannte Unterhaltung . Danke dafür . Durch Deine Videos habe ich noch mehr Motivation bekommen Gameboys zu sammeln . Was soll ich sagen . Es fehlt nur noch der weiße Dmg-01 xD Danke für die Inspiration
I have this same 3DS (but in black) and some time ago I bought a new joystick because mine broke, inspired by your first repair video of that same 3DS. But when I opened my console and saw that many ribbon cables… I noped and closed it again. I’m not confident enough to do that repair, I don’t know that much and I’m afraid I’d break them, and my New 3DS is very special to me. I enjoyed your video and seeing you finally getting that piece of plastic out. But yeah, I’m not opening mine ever, those ribbon cables scare me deeply.
It's so frustrating closing up thinking your done after all the tedious work. Just to find out you need to take half of it apart again because you forgot something 😆 I do it almost everytime I open up anything
Why are you the only videos I find for new 3ds repairs. All I find is 3ds xl repairs. I need to find parts too and can’t find them either. Shhheeessshhh. Nice video.
This is honestly the most iconic £5 ds system. Cool to see it still playing games and being used as it originally would have been thrown out all those years back
I bought a new 3Ds with the Timmy and tommy faceplates and it’s one of the Best Buy’s I’ve ever done. This video is great and this guy has very satisfying content
nice video, it reminds me of a month ago when i was making a bluetooth adapter for my n64, i gave up after struggling to solder the controller adapter wires, (it was the last part)
The modularity is for repairability. It makes it much easier for them selves to repair their own products. They most likely don't do board leve repair, they just replace the whole PCB with the defective component. Also aren't you missing three screws around the SD card port?
I got the original 3ds when it came out and loved it. I also got a new 3ds xl when it came out. I recently got a new3ds (non-xl) and have to say it’s the most beautiful thing ever. I’m not sure why but the form factor and styling of it is just really nice.
I’ve been working on 2 New 3DS XLs lately and yes these are super annoying to work with, those pressure fit ribbon cables are so nerve wracking cause one small slip and that connectors broken. I’ve had to take them apart and back together so many times now for diagnosing purposes, and I’ve gotten pretty damn good at getting the top ribbon cables through the hinge. I found out it’s just WAY easier to put the camera one through first since it stays on the outside of all three, then with the camera module up out of the way you can insert the screen and speaker ribbons together, or even one by one as long as you know which order they go in. Way easier than rolling up all three in my opinion.
I've seen a few other channels pick up the Lord/Lady sponsorship, and they all want to build a small kingdom of them and thier followers. I would love for them all to take off and be so big that there are sizeable plots of land dedicated to the associated YT channels.
I'd bet its modular because the parts all come from different suppliers or are assembled by different teams in a production line. Could also be for them to repair units (do they still do that nintendo repair scheme) internally a lot easier?
Breaking ribbon cable ports absolutely sucks. I've flipped open a little lock too hard, the lock flap flew off and I was never able to lock the ribbon cable in place again. It was on a joy con, couldn't use it anymore
The new 3DS XL is my absolute favourite portable Nintendo and I wish they'd make a worthy successor as the Switch is too big and battery guzzling. Yet another great video and somewhat therapeutic video
Yeah i know what you mean by being delicate. I recently messed around with my dsixl to do the dpad and yeah those parts...yeah. Had to pull away a few times and calm myself saying i can do this while being as gentle as possible even when those shoulder parts wanted to slide around lol
I think may manufacturers tend to use multiple boards as it is easy to make revisions. I work more with laptops and I see slave boards that have often been improved over the period of the model. I would imagine it would be far easier to make a revision to a slave board than it would be to an entire one piece board.
i have an old 3ds which has a broken ribbon cable on the top screen, and I'd like an ips screen on it but i don't know where to start. and yes, i mean the old model. it has a lot of sentimental value to me as i got it for Christmas in 2011 if i remember correctly, so replacing it is out of the question.

I love my New 3DS XL, (Though it's not so new now). I do wish I had grabbed one of the "regular" new 3DS's, but my eye's are glad I got the bigger one :). I hope at some point we'll get some of the options for improved screen etc.. like we have for our older Nintendo handhelds. Though after seeing how much it takes to break one down and put it back together, I might be a bit hesitant. 😮

could you link places where you can get new 3ds shells. I cant seem to find any myself
@Kiranyte mate i had search for hours and all i can find are shells for the orignal and xl models
You are promoting a scam sir.
Scam
should have replaced the Circle pad with a metal one
Elliot juggling ribbon cables: "I am loosing the will to live."
Elliot litterally five seconds later: "That wasn't too hard."
I was also laughing at. Today is the day, that I fix it, but not on the day you’re watching it, but on a recent day…..
Honestly it's just a mood.
Looks great I have been working on 4 2DS’s today and I have to admit it’s a challenging process 😂 I repeatedly wanted to throw them all at a wall
I did a body swap on my 2ds recently and for me the most annoying part was replacing the circle pad
That stylus twirl was smooth af.
We all have that something that means a lot to us. Glad to see you take up the charge on fixing it!
The 3ds is my favorite, my family wasn't fortunate enough to afford the game boy when it came out. But in 2011 I got my first DS, the first console I ever had, (sadly I gave it away 🤦) then I got my 3ds a few years later. My original ds has major sentimental value to me. The story behind it and the memories I have with it means I will never let it go
I like the vibes of these vids a lot, keep doing them Elliot, and I hope they bring you a bit of cash to keep up with your new home

Hey Elliot, I really loved the tone of this video. Very calming.
Oh Lord.... what a sponsorship! Well done!!!!
ASMR and random love letter from you at the end caught me off guard. Love your stuff man. 💕
This is why I’m not cheap when taking my consoles for repair, as well as never attempt to do it myself, I’m more of a player than a fixer lol great video and thank you for your relaxing editing
only handheld i've ever done was a psp 3000, i frakensteined it together out of multiple broken psps when i was a teenager (it still works til this day)
I love this format of video. Very relaxing.
I can 100% relate to "loss of sleep" over stuff like this stuff lol. Nothing like finishing a project and then seeing ONE small flaw you didn't notice. You're too tired to fix it in the moment cuz its working, but it just haunts you until you do.
That model is the best handheld console ever created by Nintendo :)

Ahhh, that's better. Thanks for a great upload. A lovely way to unwind on lunchbreak!
I remember that build. ❤ so many memories in it. Not just for you but for us who have been around for a bit as well.
The groan when you saw the analog stick had me cackling hahaha, then it wasn't even a big deal. 10/10.
that sponsor was the most amazing one i've seen by anybody, it's basically "help plant a tree, also you can legally be a lord"
I tried repairing my New 3DS to get the D-Pad cleaner and more responsive.

love me a fresh retro future video to end my school day

The Bob Ross of the DS world 😂
Looks Amazing... Great to see you doing Fix it videos again...
Great job! New 3ds have everything but the kitchen sink inside them. My dsi XL is the first console I ever bought myself. I'll always love it.
Awesome repair video,Lord Elliot.😄💯👌🏻✌🏻

I like this new character you created. Very Zen :D

I took apart my n64 to clean it the other day. I got it all back together and realized I forgot the plastic surround for the av port 🤦♂️
I opened my Xbox 360 and put it back together. It was so odd having screws left over.
You really make my day and week Keep making your videos.
Love you too man, Goodnight from America
Why are you the only videos I find for new 3ds repairs. All I find is 3ds xl repairs. I need to find parts too and can’t find them either. Shhheeessshhh. Nice video.

Really great video, Elliot.
Your videos have helped me get through stressful times in college.
Thank you, my friend
the reason its modular i think is for production reasons. they can make one pcb at one factory and another pcb at another factory
Love your 3DS repairs.
You are awesome, Elliot. Keep it up, man.
After watching the disassembly process, I can totally understand why you left that plastic piece in there for all this time.
This is I started repairing. Learning how to fix my stuff that bug me. Fixing others stuff that I know about
nice video, it reminds me of a month ago when i was making a bluetooth adapter for my n64, i gave up after struggling to solder the controller adapter wires, (it was the last part)

The DS is pretty fun.. you basically need a flash cart now-a-days tho since the shop is gone, and there's lots of neat homebrew
DSI XL is the best to homebrew, I have cfw on DSI XL and new 3ds xl, I haven't played them for a while tho
I always wanted a “new” 3ds my regular 3ds XL was amazing i loved it so much
Love the story behind this DS.
I felt your pain with that 20min staring out the window section.
That stylus flip Elliot…. *chef’s kiss*
I’ve been working on 2 New 3DS XLs lately and yes these are super annoying to work with, those pressure fit ribbon cables are so nerve wracking cause one small slip and that connectors broken.

I can really relate to "making a coffee and stare out the window for 20 minutes".
I've seen a few other channels pick up the Lord/Lady sponsorship, and they all want to build a small kingdom of them and thier followers. I would love for them all to take off and be so big that there are sizeable plots of land dedicated to the associated YT channels.

Even though the wii u/3ds era were some dark times for nintendo some of the games on there fantastic.
"And I will hopefully sleep well at night"
With a newly repaired 3ds I doubt you will even sleep at all.
Breaking ribbon cable ports absolutely sucks. I've flipped open a little lock too hard, the lock flap flew off and I was never able to lock the ribbon cable in place again. It was on a joy con, couldn't use it anymore
Nice I have a lot of these consoles in white and black. I even managed to pick up an ambassador edition
The new 3DS XL is my absolute favourite portable Nintendo and I wish they'd make a worthy successor as the Switch is too big and battery guzzling.
Yet another great video and somewhat therapeutic video
I hope I never have to take apart my new 3ds xl, great video btw showing how much of a pain it is to fix modern Nintendo consoles
That farewell was so hilariously adorable
I had to take apart a 3DS XL to replace the interior back shell and outer back shell due to plastic chunks being missing out of it
"Today is the day that I fix this, but not the day that you're watching this."
Me watching this over a year later had a laugh about this. 😂
wished the coloured buttons are on the xl version, they do look nice
I know you still have a lot on your plate but did you announce the gameboy light giveaway? Keep up the good work
I once bought a disassembled n3dsxl only to find the top screen ribbons were torn. Luckily the seller took it back without too much of a fuss.
Love you too Elliot!!!
The first video was excellent and this one is too!
Yeah i know what you mean by being delicate. I recently messed around with my dsixl to do the dpad and yeah those parts...yeah. Had to pull away a few times and calm myself saying i can do this while being as gentle as possible even when those shoulder parts wanted to slide around lol

I would imagine it would be far easier to make a revision to a slave board than it would be to an entire one piece board.
Nice clear video. And I feel you, I have 3 regular 3ds and one is now dead because I made a huge mistake and broke a ribbon cable LoL
I love the outro❤
"Wrestling with Ribbons" Elliott's latest album. Out now!
You haven't suffered until you've replaced a top screen on a 3DS
I had a messed up x button and thanks to Elliot I fixed it my 2DS works fine now
i have an old 3ds which has a broken ribbon cable on the top screen, and I'd like an ips screen on it but i don't know where to start. and yes, i mean the old model. it has a lot of sentimental value to me as i got it for Christmas in 2011 if i remember correctly, so replacing it is out of the question.
Hey Elliot, When I saw the tumbnail, I thought this was a DankPods vid lol
We love you too Elliot
I still actually Rember finding you from the 3ds video and the pokemon 2ds
i would have had to leave that little nugget inside in memorium. haha.. little backstory .. seeyaa friend!!
Very cool mlord!
Dude! Just bought the Couple Title Pack for my Wife and I. I winder if we end up neighbors! lol (I made sure to use your link and the discount code)
For so long, i remember a video talking about a subsidiary board on the motherboard and they said something about a "dotter board" and i wondered what the word origin was until watching this video and you said "daughter board"
Ahhh yes established titles. Im so glad the LORD has fixed his new 3DS. What a cheeky vid. Man this was super personable and had me goggling the whole time nearly. Goodnight Lord Coll…or is it morning? Oh well 😂❤
I counted the ribbon cables in mine and he’s right. There are a million.
I love you too Elliot. Good night
The modular aspect was so they could have looser quality control and still end up with high quality product
you dont know what pain is until you have to take the circle pad cap out of the shell
