I followed this video to change my oil on my 2006 Liberty , The only thing i had to do was take the exhaust off. However if you do not have the correct tools for the job i would not recommend doing this !!! I was very pleased that i changed the oil and the gear box oil by following instuctions put on by people that have the time to do this , Many Thanks
Thanks so much for your video I had the same issue with removing the drain plug. I finally had to remove the exhaust pipe (2 header nuts and loosen the strap at the muffler) was then able to get my socket on the drain plug and with the impact wrench connected it came out faster then you could say piaggio. In the excitement I forgot to put my oil pan under the scooter to catch the old oil. My wife who was watching burst into laughter and said “no dinner until you clean up that mess “ rotflol
Hey mate top video, I did mine on the weekend and didnt have a 24mm ring spanner so i had to use a socket which means moving the exhaust to fit the socket onto the sump plug. I used motul 10w-40. And yes mine was so stupidly unbelievably tight to get off too!!
Thanks for the filter tips. I have a Fly 150 and it uses the same filter type but, as you have mentioned already, Piaggio won't tell you which is the right one. Got the HIFLO from Amazon, about $8.
Me too! There wasn't a video on the subject, so I made one. Others have helped me greatly with 'how-to' vids and pages on the 'Net, and I think one ought to give something back, if possible. Thank you for your comment.
Bought a Piaggio Fly 125ie last month. Loving it. Very useful video, thanks. It's going in for its 1000km service on Tuesday - I tried to check the hub oil (yep, just check it!) the other day. The torque that the workshop guys had used was ridiculous. Nearly took the skin off my whole hand! How are you supposed to do general maintenance if you can't even check the oil level?! I'll be getting them to reduce the torque on it, and I'll make sure they do the same with the engine oil cap too.
Thank you. Glad to be of service. I think repeated heating and cooling must tighten that nut. Or maybe the last service team put it on with a rattle-gun, or a torque wrench.
great video..my sump plug was ridiculious tight.i always use castrol oil seems one of the best oils to use.took me abt 30mins to loosen sump plug after a few f.... words lol.
Thanks Stephen upload. i have a fly 125 and now i use Valvoline total synthesis oil, but Italy's piaggio engineer told me mineral oil is best for fly 125. it mazing me ! we are always change oil at 3000km in China, 6000km is correct or not?
Thanks Stephen. One question though : where did you get your oil filter cartridge removal wrench ? I can't seem to find one small enough for scooter oil filters...
Hello Stephen, Fantastic video. I have just acquired one myself, would you happen to have a copy of the service manual or know where I can get one? I live up in the NT..... Thanks
Massive help this!! I have a Piaggio Liberty 125... took my a while to figure out where each part it that you mentioned... but worked it out in the end!!! Do you need to replace the Oil filter cartridge each time? or continue using it?
+Nazz Boner Thought I'd replied to this. My handbook (page 34) says every 6,000 km (=3,728 miles). Check the level every 1000 km (=621 miles) and top up. (There are km-to-miles converter pages all over the Internet.)
Nice and fun video sir. This engine is the "leader" engine from Piaggio? I´m planning to get a Aprilia SR125, and comes with a 125 cc "leader" engine from Piaggio
@@TheBlueDaweStudioThirlmere Excuse me, but on Piaggio Liberty it does have O-rings, one on the filler rod cap, ... Another on the screw nut, drain cap, ... And finally another on the filter housed in the oil outlet duct. .. It is convenient to check the last 2 and it is better to change .. the filler cap can be done at any time. I don't know if the Fly carries them or not, although I think and would say yes. I have written this comment in Google translate so that it reaches you in English... The language issue is solvable if you edit and add subtitles in Spanish. There is a large Hispanic community to follow your good videos. you will gain subscribers. Greetings friend.
@The BlueDawe Studio The exhaust pipe is a bit annoying for this operation, in my case I had to remove it because there was no way to loosen the drain plug screw, with a knurled wrench or with the wrench open, and to be able to insert a 24 mm ratchet socket, there was no space... so I had to completely disassemble the tube.
Having sold the scooter, I no longer have the handbook. I used whatever oil the handbook said. I live in Australia, where we have no snow or ice in winter, so we use lighter engine oils than cold countries.
couldnt get the cap off to drain my piaggio! ended up buying wd40, spanners.... nothing worked.. in the end i ended up buying a suction oil pump (Oil and Fluid Extractor Pump) from amazon, and sucking the engine oil out of my piaggio from the dipstick hole, but worked a treat though....
i dont know how you did it! i couldnt move it a muscle. used an AJ, bought a spanner, WD40, i ended shearing off the corners of the bolt! i got a feeling that it hasnt been taken off in years though... Thanks for your video, even though i went i a different route, i wouldnt have even known how to access my piaggio libertys 125 cap, if it wasnt for your video

Uncanny! My experience precisely including commentary from spouse.

A great help, this video! Thank you and nice greetings from austria (on the other side of the world:-)
Ich danke Ihnen
Thanks Stephen - clear and concise.
Brilliant instructional video, thanks for all this info
Thank you indeed.
A great video, thanks! 👍😎👍
You are very welcome.
Thank you. It is indeed time I changed the spark plug. Stay tuned.
Great video, looks straight forward.
Really helpful and very sympathetic presentation! Thanks a lot!
Thank you very much mister. Your video was so much helpful for me. ^_^
Thank u. My typhoon 125 manual didn't say where the drainage bolt was, ur engine looks the same so I'm guessing it's there.
Typhoon is 2 stroke
correct on the 50cc version. the 125cc is 4t
Thanks Stephen upload. i have a fly

Great video!! very helpfully
Nice video. One question: how many km needs the oil filter to be changed?
Hi Stephen, Excellent video! Do you know how to change the oil or add oil for the front forks?
No, and I never will know, because I've sold the Piaggio! I no longer need it.
hi, is the oil filter same as for the Zip 125? can i buy a same one for my Zip 125?
I don't know.
But look here: www.scooterwest.com/oil-filter-for-125-300-vespa-and-piaggio-2001-2014-82635-pa-82635-pa.html
Awesome informations :D nice job
Excellent, just what I was after
Piaggio Spark plug video is now ready!
Well done Steve.
great videos keep up good work 10/10 ;)
+Gary Numan Thank you, sir.
Thanks Stephen. One question though : where did you get your oil filter cartridge removal wrench ? I can't seem to find one small enough for scooter oil filters...
It's just a standard type, from... I can't recall where. It has an adjustable strap, so one size fits all.
Awesome video ! :)
Hello Stephen, Fantastic video. I have just acquired one myself, would you happen to have a copy of the service manual or know where I can get one? I live up in the NT..... Thanks
+Aytac Fuad I Googled and found this: www.scooterclube.com.br/download/Piaggio-Fly-125-150-servico.pdf

Good video. I have a fly 150, how often do I need to change the oil?
Miles?
+Nazz Boner Did you ever find out? I think it's every 2000 miles.
Peace
1500 to 2000 is a safe bet. I don't see Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 syn oil going bad before that.
+Nazz Boner Thought I'd replied to this. My handbook (page 34) says every 6,000 km (=3,728 miles). Check the level every 1000 km (=621 miles) and top up. (There are km-to-miles converter pages all over the Internet.)

+ASF Thank you. Yes, that is the Leader engine.
Thank you Stephen
When you say “clean the filter basket in petrol”, do you mean gasoline?
Yes indeed, gasoline is another name for petrol.
what about fuel consumption ?
the same way... with the piaggio beverly 500 ??
Change it at the same time, yes.

Why use 15w40 oil instead of the prescribed 5w40 oil ??

How to start piaggio fly without key as its damage by thief and i want to reach to garage
10yrs later still useful video 👍
Thank you, James. I sold this scooter some years ago.

You are not alone, brother. Read all the replies here, from those who struggled with The Sump Plug of Death.
Ian Aitken put the spanner thing on it and if you can like bang it so with a hammer on the end of the spanner it will like work that way!
Tony Jones I started to sheer the nut so I can't getting a good grip as of the moment :(
Tea!
Don't drink and scoot.
Stay away from piaggio
You're welcome.
Great!!! Thanks so much!!!!
