One of the best "historical" drama and performance that put Cate Blanchett on the map... one of the best of her performance, even to this day! Congratulation at making such emotional compilation, highlighting them of the movie; place in history at the a price personal happiness. I still remember the day when I watched this movie for the first time, over 20 years ago... I feel like this film at this video are sadly underrated nowadays...
Mozart's piece, Requiem, is the absolute addition that makes this scene so powerful. It is the death of the naive Elizabeth. As in death, the soul will rise.
The cutting of her hair signature herself that her time as a woman is over. She has to be like a king now which means she has given herself to god and country. I know in history she lost a lot of hair after her smallpox, but i like how the director give this scene of Elizabeth cutting her hair out. It shows her resolve that she mus thitlike man, but played as a lady. Elizabeth gave up her own freedom, happiness and love so that her people can be free as she wished it.
So many things wrong historically about the film, in reality Kat Ashley was much older than Elizabeth I, Dudley remained steadfast to Elizabeth throughout her reign. It would have been unthinkable that he would have joined the Duke of Norfolk in a plan. Norfolk was executed for attempting to marry Mary, Queen of Scots but actually Elizabeth was by and large safe from catholic intrigues until 1570 which is the year of the Bull of Excommunication. It is a brilliant film none the less but the real history is more interesting

❤️
Well, somehow Mozart works for an Elizabethan tale. But the Requiem works for pretty near anything.
1:48 looks pretty
5:04 looks even more pretty

The film's biggest and perhaps only mistake. To bring in Mozart's requiem in the middle - awful and it spoiled this otherwise great movie.
Mozart’s requiem was at the end and not in the middle.
I think it’s the most powerful scene of all depicting her transition from a mere young princess to the queen
On the contrary, I found it very well suited
