Another good vid mate. 100% the temp will effect the top speed. How metals react to heat and how a battery discharges during use are effected.
Couple that with a potential lack of traction under load....
    Cheers Glen 👍👍

Nice run Glenn, I thought it mite be a 50/50 chance on what motor is fastest. Like you were saying, older motor & colder temps. But so close in speed, it’s not important.

I’m thinking you need to revisit this one on a better day and maybe the belts being tighter made a big difference.
When I lived in the north of British Columbia I noticed a different in performance on lipo the colder it got so they don’t like the cold for sure.

Not sure if your intentions are to keep the gear ratio the same for each test, but to get the most out of each motor, they should be geared properly. Higher rpm motors that produce less torque will require a smaller pinion gear to maximize the available power. It may seem counter-intuitive, but a faster spinning motor can sometimes produce more overall speed with a smaller pinion gear (the higher gear ratio will allow the motor to reach maximum rpm faster and with less amp draw from the battery.) If you're overgeared (pinion too large), the motor may not have the torque to reach max rpm, hence the slower top speed.

Awesome information thank you my friend. Yeah the initial part of this series of videos was to just run all the motors I had on a level playing field to see the differences between them, with a view to playing with the gearing in the future.

The temperature will affect the current provided by the lipo battery. Colder temps inhibit the battery chemistry, whereas warmer temps enhance it, within reasonable limits. 3 brothers hobbies posted a great video on lipo resistances which touched on this, if you want to research it further.

I’d agree the temp and motor age, wear make a difference. Also the charge the battery received could have been slightly different. Either way the AZ, BZ motors are fast for brushed. You can also get more speed from gearing changes which could affect each motor differently. Now on to brushless! Still a great series of videos!

Good runs, still very respectable speeds 👌. I think the cold is your enemy here. I've read LiPo's don't like being under degrees 10c. Basically it results in a lower C rating and lower capacity. Good to see a no damage run again, although not as exciting. 😂🤣

That’s good going considering the temperature. I don’t think that you’ll be able to get a true and reliable speed until you have better weather.
The only other thing you can do is do all your motor swaps and speed runs on the same day. But -5 degrees is crazy cold. Stay inside mate, that’s like me standing in a paddock do runs at 40+ degrees. You’ll catch a death. I’d just have to dodge snakes and get fried by the heat and worry about starting a fire. That I can tolerate 🤣🤣🤣🤣

truthfully me either! My daughter has more bravado than me when it comes to reptiles, she’s 15 and volunteers at a zoo. No problems with pythons etc.
I nearly fill my britches when I see a lizard, that half a second is enough panic before you realise what it really is.
Considering the most common snake where I come from and grew up is number 2 in the world for deadliness (the Eastern Brown). This where I bash in a paddock! They tend to be more scared of you than you think, you tend not to see them, they will only really attack if you tread on them or corner them. I think the 4 or 5th deadliest (the Tiger Snake) is a lot more aggressive bites more than once but their toxicity is far less. They are not uncommon within the suburbs of Melbourne a city of approximately 6 million, we get a few reports each year. The number 1 is the Inland Taipan, you’ve got about 20 minutes with this bad boy, enough venom per bite to kill a few people, but extremely shy, located in the outback. In saying all of that, we would be lucky to have a handful of deaths a year.
The country isn’t infested with Kangaroos and deadly reptiles and spiders as portrayed.

They also make the brushes out of 3 different materials. I think the carbon ones are the fastest but wear the quickest. Do you know for sure your brushes are the same material? These super stock motors on 3s are scary fast enough! I just ordered 4 sets of carbon replacement brushes instead of bothering with a brushless setup. For now...... P.s. what video of yours would have your best decal tricks in it? Have you done a water mist one for large stickers? I am nervous about putting on the big ones for the top force, not to mention the mci ones are slightly larger and don't have the vent cutout😭

Tbh when it comes to decaling I cut them out perfectly then only apply a very small area at a time with the backing always left on. Also the hairdryer is your friend when decaling, it can come in very handy, buy don’t have it too hot 🥵

I find with belts especially when racing stock class you want to run the belts as slack as you can without skipping under load. Too tight & your just wasting power

Was thinking that too. For offroading I might run them that tight, but they looked very tight for onroad use. I suspect that some speed was definitely lost there. To be honest, I don't think I run my TRF503 belts that tight. Before running it again, I'd say keep it in the notches, but loosen the tensioners a bit to get some slack.
You can tighten them well by feel. When the motor is out and the wheels are off, make sure it's fairly loose. Turn the spur with your fingers while tightning the tensioners one at a time. As soon as you feel there's a bit more resistance, you back up the tensioner a 16th of a turn. Now you should feel almost as little resistance as you did when you started, but with a belt that is tight enough to run properly. After one pack through, it will have stretched ever so slightly and it is spot on. For a good comparison, leave the belt where it is and run the BZ motor again. That will tell you whoat the belt tensioning did.
