I think this tapasya series is one of the best production of SDN. I started watching tapasya only much later, but it became addiction and i was able to watch every episode. Probably there is a lot to learn for a dancer from tapasya series, but being a non artist i could say that this tapasya series has influenced me a lot. The attitude and approach towards life is foremost i believe. How to learn and how to learn to reach the toptier, the attitude needed for continued learning is something to be imbibed. The importance of hardwork, focused hardwork to make it into perfect learning experience is something i appreciated. The humility and humbleness needed for the learning experience is showcased in this.
Lot of management lessons, how to perform and achieve as a group. How to time manage perfectly. How to multi task in life which society expect us to lead. And later on i see how SDN works effects us spiritually. How it effects even the teenage students who have a spiritual angle in their life. And finally people like Harinie inspire us to give our 100 % even towards our daily day today activities. Thank You.
Harinie has only one competition…and that is Harinie herself! She is the epitome of dance, she sets the bar for the dance, she defines the dance form…and she does it all with humility. The sign of an artist true to the form! Sheela Ma’am’s words that a mother gets more pleasure when her son is lauded than at the time she gave birth to him touched a chord in my heart! It shows her motherly love towards her students - truly a Guru Ma! Harinie owes being Harinie largely to her! Namaste Ma’am!
This is much more than a PhD project! It combines all the key elements of purpose, passion, theme, conception, research, complexity, innovation, performance, and recognition needed for a doctoral award in the performing arts! 🌹 It merits the honour of a doctorate degree, at the very least, in my considered view.🙏 Also, while the quality dimension of the product and its execution is visible and gets well-deserved appreciation, the astonishing speed with which it has been perfected and confidently presented to the discerning scrutiny of the public eye is another dimension that should not get overlooked.🙏
Tapasya in conceiving the theme, Tapasya in setting the music after getting the lyrics, Tapasya in gathering the firsthand knowledge and information, Tapasya in choreographing, Tapasya in performing, Tapasya in remaining simple and humble after this spectacular achievement. ✨ ⭐ ✨ Tapasya can never ever fail! Amazed to hear, she spent her time from 1 am onwards daily for 10 days to learn about the brahmotsavam👌 she says ' process of the journey..' highlight of her application. A lot of her efforts went into the choreography.

Here is just a story of how I came upon sdn . So I am a fan of kuldeep ji . I used to hear his songs . My favourite was the ashtalakshmi video. One day I came across the ashtalaksmi dance . I loved it . 😍 it was full of grace and hard work . I was about to perform my salangai Pooja. It gave my ideas for perfection and abhinaya . Iam thankful to sdn . The next day I came across tapasya ep 1 . I was shocked to see small kids learning dance . This increased my passion towards dance . My favourite dancer is harine akka . Harine akka ( Lakshmi) and bhairavi akka ( vishnu ) made a perfect pair in srinivasa kalyanam and vaikunda ekadasi special ranganadar odam . I loved the perfect and charming abhinaya in harine akka's performents 😇. This tapasya series is bringing me close to dance . I had a few questions: How did you decide upon your sources for the background information? And how did you finally zero down on the information that you needed to inspire yourself? What was the process behind choosing some mudras such as shukhatunda and what was your experimentation like?
Namaste Ananyaa, Thank you for your message🙏😊 To answer your questions, 1. How did you decide upon your sources for the background information? It is always best to gather information on the subject from reliable sources. Natyarangam had assigned Dr. Chitra Madhavan, an Indian historian, as the resource person for this project. She gave me ample insights about the temple and an overview of the Uthsavam. I also read a couple of books and articles which touched upon history, legends, compositions etc. of this temple and the deity. I was also fortunate to meet a few localites of Kanchipuram, with whom I could discuss in-detail the various intricacies related to the subject. I too happened to witness the Uthsavam this year, from which I made my observations 😊 2. How did you zero down on the information that you needed to inspire yourself? When it came to weaving the presentation from the bank of information gathered, these are some of the points that I had in mind: a) Sticking to the theme b) Incorporating variety in presentation (variety in terms of the Sthaayi or mood of the different segments presented). c) Striking a balance between adding stories or episodes which the audience will be familiar with or easily connect to Vs introducing them to events or episodes they might not be familiar with. d) Incorporating the events that I personally witnessed in the Uthsavam this year. Having the above points in mind, I organised the gathered information to form a sequence that was convincing for me😊 3. What was the process behind choosing some mudras like Shukatunda and what was your experimentation like? Dr. Vempati Chinnasatyam has incorporated the Shukatunda hasta to depict the crocodile in his depiction of Gajendra Moksham in 'Ksheera sagara shayana'. Therefore, I chose to use the same, without a second thought 😊 When it comes to experimenting with Hastas, I have mostly stuck to the conventional ones so far. But I'm sure that the vocabulary of Hastas prescribed in our texts, on close observation, contemplation and understanding, will certainly lend themselves to accommodate anything that our creativity demands to depict 😊

Akka, I type this comment with absolute pride and adoration for who you are. These Tapasya episodes have revealed a self of you that I relate to, a quiet, focused self, who loses herself to Bharatanatyam and its multiple stories and even finds herself there. Your words about not expecting, only working, are motivating not just in the dance space but also in academics and other goals. I had a few questions: How did you decide upon your sources for the background information? And how did you finally zero down on the information that you needed to inspire yourself? What was the process behind choosing some mudras such as shukhatunda and what was your experimentation like?

To answer your questions,
1. How did you decide upon your sources for the background information?
It is always best to gather information on the subject from reliable sources. Natyarangam had assigned Dr. Chitra Madhavan, an Indian historian, as the resource person for this project. She gave me ample insights about the temple and an overview of the Uthsavam.
I also read a couple of books and articles which touched upon history, legends, compositions etc. of this temple and the deity.
I was also fortunate to meet a few localites of Kanchipuram, with whom I could discuss in-detail the various intricacies related to the subject. I too happened to witness the Uthsavam this year, from which I made my observations 😊
2. How did you zero down on the information that you needed to inspire yourself?
When it came to weaving the presentation from the bank of information gathered, these are some of the points that I had in mind:
a) Sticking to the theme
b) Incorporating variety in presentation (variety in terms of the Sthaayi or mood of the different segments presented).
c) Striking a balance between adding stories or episodes which the audience will be familiar with or easily connect to Vs introducing them to events or episodes they might not be familiar with.
d) Incorporating the events that I personally witnessed in the Uthsavam this year.
Having the above points in mind, I organised the gathered information to form a sequence that was convincing for me😊
3. What was the process behind choosing some mudras like Shukatunda and what was your experimentation like?
Dr. Vempati Chinnasatyam has incorporated the Shukatunda hasta to depict the crocodile in his depiction of Gajendra Moksham in 'Ksheera sagara shayana'. Therefore, I chose to use the same, without a second thought 😊
When it comes to experimenting with Hastas, I have mostly stuck to the conventional ones so far. But I'm sure that the vocabulary of Hastas prescribed in our texts, on close observation, contemplation and understanding, will certainly lend themselves to accommodate anything that our creativity demands to depict 😊
