That's how a lot of South Koreans also say it; even the young ones (I lived there 2012-2014 and taught various ages from grade 2 > adult professionals). It's so weird because it's not like they don't have "ya" or "iya" sounds in Korean. Since I was a child my grandparents had nothing bad to say about yugoslavia. After watching this documentary I understand why
Can't say that Yugoslavia and North Korea were the same, I'd dare to say that they were not even similar. North Koreas is a Communist Monarchy, as weird as that may sound. It's almost a Communist Monarchy Theocracy, because they worship their Monarch like a God, while he promotes Communism. It's really weird. None of that happened in Yugoslavia, in fact Yugoslavia was the most Liberal Communist country you'll ever find.
The only difference is in Yugoslavia the leader was loved by his people because he actually led the partisans against the nazis, and was elected. Oh and didn’t commit any crimes against humanity
I also live in a country that was communist, Romania, more specifically and my grandma told me too she that when she was a kid they had to sing very loudly on parades celebrating their leader at the time

The whole world (except for Russia and China I guess) should come together and defeat North Korea and give it to South Korea. It's crazy how one of the best nations in the world is literally right next to one of the worst, and share the same name!

Wow, I’m coming to this a decade late but this was some incredible journalism. Nothing was real here. He pulled back layer after layer of this choreographed performance they put on, yet we still never quite reached the true North Korean experience.
It was interesting to see that the people of North Korea were not all that different from the rest of the world, only living in an antiquated society. Strangely, I don’t feel sad for them. I still wish they could experience the culture and technology outside their country.
Just got the recommendation today lul. Good ol 2022 youtube recommendations. Although this was a nice watch.

From this whole documentary I noticed something. There were only small children and adults. I didn't see any teenagers. 🤔
All teenagers are killed, so only children and adults can reproduce; filling the country with nothing but more children and adults.
johnmcclatchy makes sense. any kid who turns out to become a teenager dies but those turn to adult survive.

All I could keep thinking during that entire show at the end is all the money being spend buying those elaborate clothes could be used to feed those people.
Why would they buy when the make that shit for free
Because it takes materials to make those outfits and materials are not free.

They could use the labour to grow more food.

Tea girl was by far my favorite part of this 3 part series
A normal person: “Korea”
North Korean commentator: “KOREAR”
Thats how US propaganda pronounced korea in the 60's so thats just how dprk thinks you say it
what is the song playing at that part!
Oh I thought it was cause they wish they could have a better career. But that works too.
*"Koreuuur"
That's how a lot of South Koreans also say it; even the young ones (I lived there 2012-2014 and taught various ages from grade 2 > adult professionals). It's so weird because it's not like they don't have "ya" or "iya" sounds in Korean. But I guess the English "r" is hard enough to pronounce (their "ㄹ" is between our "l" and "r"), so then they have trouble with the following syllable? IDK, I never quite understood it.
I almost spit my drink out when I saw the kids playing the guitars that is literally just like the scene in The Interview 🤣🤣🤣 same exact song they were on point.
Still can’t believe that movie almost caused WWIII 😂😂😂

12:40 I am currently 16 years of age and I was born and I am still living in the country of croatia which used to be part of yugoslavia. my parents and grandparents lived in yugoslavia (which was a communist country). I showed my mom this video and she said that those types of orchestras celebrating "the great leader" and their country and such orchestras were a completely normal thing.
I also live in a country that was communist, Romania, more specifically and my grandma told me too she that when she was a kid they had to sing very loudly on parades celebrating their leader at the time
Buraz moj ako usporedjujes Jugu s Sjevernom Korejom onda je vise u tebi problem nego u sistemu. +Soviet Union Shane said in a follow up video that 2 North Korean people from their US Embassy came to "visit" him while he was at the VICE home office in America. They wanted to speak with him about this documentary. funny thing is... there is no North Korean embassy in the US. the people at the office quickly called Shane and told him to not come into work. Point is... Shane's life was potentially threatened in his own country for what he did here. I guarantee that tour guide lost his life.
+Nathan Yocum woah do u have a link to the vid?

I love these covert peeks into North Korean life, but I fear for the local tour guides who unwittingly "star" in the videos and what retribution they may suffer when these productions get scrutinized by their angry gov't. I just wish the producers gave some sort of indication that they were sensitive to that
