Imagine if the charging station could also be a base "hub" station, where you can manage everything connected to it from there. So you could make things while you charge back up. Turn that downtime into an opportunity! :D
Also, that "wrist device" thing you were talking about. How about just modifying your robot body instead of just "adding an accessory on it like some fleshbag would"? :p
In fact, could have different loadouts for your robot body. Maybe going so far as to having different bodies you could load your AI into.

Tier 2 adds drones that harvest the big scrap, new machines that add new component assembly lines, and there are 3 types of vehicles. The game plays up through the 2nd large tower. You finish tower 1 after you do the tech and biological keys. There is also an instant warp machine you can build in T2.

in regards to the stuff going on in the outside background, I would personally recommend using borderlands as a great example... in their main menu they have a set amount of animations it slowly randomly does while waiting. If they did something similar where, say, every minute or so it picks one of a random set of "things" would be absolutely amazing. like some drones drop off of a giant pile for a crane bot to pick it up and fly off, or a giant eyeball bot comes and stares at you for a few seconds before flying off, just random stuff that always ends with it looking the same as how it started so it all goes from to the other seamlessly. The random flying drones is really great, but adding little random things would add so much value.

Like in Factorio which inspired Satisfactory which likely inspired this game, it looks like you have to automate all the things because of the sheer quantities of stuff involved to get anything done. Might be a nice twist that in this incarnation of the factory builder the player cleans and restores the ecosphere instead of destroying it.

Cool. But the fact that you turn in this big important "tech key" and nothing happens because the game is waiting on the Bio key is a missed opportunity, like Splattercat says. Think like the HUB from Satisfactory: it visibly builds up as you go through the tutorial stages, a little bit at a time.

If devs are reading this - please change your color correction to linear and you will get rid of "overexposed" look of your game. Also, please, tune you lighting and shadows! Has a lot of promise. I second cool vehicles with changeable model modules. So you can have a claw vehicle with a built in shredder, or container, or later a drone transport module.
And add an animation of plugging in to various machines to enter first person or third person view directly from that machine. Instead of standing behind it, mostly occluded, pushing manual buttons like with the laser. You are a robot, why can't you plug in to some other machines camera and take a look around?
Finally, as others have said, it would be cool if you could upgrade your chassis to have other components: Bigger battery, more armour (if they ever add danger zones), faster/stronger/better climbing legs, more storage, living greenhouse, auto smelter, better laser, camera drone dock, etc. But have the model change with it to reflect your new form. Modules could be exclusive, so you can have a second auto laser, upgrade your main laser, or have a camera drone, but not all 3. Give the player a sense of identity over time.

I've watched someone start up to the second or third tower in this game.
The grind and the goals are indeed long, definitely could do with more smaller interactions to bolster that you are doing cool things.
However basic terra formation is in, after you finish the plants, (sorry if spoilers!) the skies start to clear up, it starts turning more blue, the water puddles start clearing up and I think you see more, then grass and moss starts popping up. It's actually pretty nice and does really add to the effect of revitalizing the environment but I agree it feels far away from the start.
However then you realize that there are 4 towers and you can go to each tower and I think at least number two does stuff or has UI. They're really far away so most people didn't want to travel to them or thought they were outside of the map, another thing to note, making it clearer that the goal is to definitely go to each of these and it's available.

I'm interested in the idea of this, but based on this video and some of the reviews on Steam currently, I will wait to see if some of the issues get smoothed out. It sounds like there is a lot of fussiness with the build system that would drive me nuts. The weird hand-laser visual needs to be fixed, as noted by Splat. I laughed when the first thing the tower did was destroy its own power source because I also expected it to be smarter than that. Looks like there is also room for some QoL improvements, for example that large container could have input/output ports for conveyors on the long sides so that you don't have to wrap them around to the narrow ends.

I really would have liked some greater capacity for automation in the game. At the moment you are still doing most tasks manually, even with the machines. For example in the early game you generally construct only need a single production line and then hit the switches to get the products you want. Some sort of intelligent splitter would be good, although the resource cost of the machines is rather high to set up actual factories (especially at Tier 2). On the other hand you could get around this by having a machine process whatever materials are in the input hopper (at least for the basic foundries and smelters). Although that runs into problems where you have multiple ways of treating a single resource.
You need the bio key to get to Tier 2 btw (and it does open new story stuff), and getting it is pure grind and then seems to be abandoned.
There does appear to be some variation of wind power with wind speed, although it only really has an effect if you are on the very limit of your network. Just add another rotor and you are safe. You can alter the aim of the laser turret from within its interface. This is actually easier than using autorotate. And whilst it has an output it's not really needed since most of what you can hit with it from any location will generally not fill the internal buffer. I had hoped that the drones could go get resources for you and bring them back to ease the grind, but they just appear to be defensive drones to intercept the hypothetical attacks from enemy drones. Tier 2 does add some important mining aspects from resource nodes (required to get to Tier 3), but grinding for scrap is still the core gameplay loop and is very expensive at Tier 2. Again the machine cost is too high to really create multiple factories and it's often easier to just transfer resources manually. Robot vehicles that travel between loading docks would also be quite nice. Again sorters would probably be needed to avoid clogging machine inputs with material it can't use.
I'm not sure any of the major structures will be able to be disassembled, even at higher tiers, because that would require extensive reworking of the game.
Machine costs (both in materials and footprint) are high, especially at Tier 2, making actual factories difficult to make. A drone factory would be nice (especially if they can fetch scrap), although this may be occurring later in the game's development cycle when they add the enemy drones. The ability to actually program each machine would be good, and differentiate it from the other factory style games. Such as only accept rubber scrap in input bin 1 and output rubber ingots to output bin 1. Although there would need to be an overflow output to avoid blocking.
The game really is more focused on achieving the stated objectives by grind, rather than by making the grind easier as you advance.

The end game of this should be a robot on a perfectly flat clear plain or an otherwise cuboid landscape.
Then the next game should be a person sculpting that planet for sale to a 3rd party.
So you first play Satisfactory to full exploit all resources the world offers... then you play this to clean up the factory when all the usefully resources are tapped... then you play Planet Crafter to breathe life back into the world to sell as a resort or vacation home for the wealthy

Great video splat! This game sounds awesome. I agree with every suggestion. My own suggestion is that the video title doesnt really feel like it defines that game as well as usual. Thanks splat!

The scrapping laser turret should've been pilotable, like if your going to make the player manually point the laser at what you want at least make in interesting. Like really lean into the scrap built nature of it and have the inside look like an old turret shooter arcade machine. The ones where sit down and use the controls to turn shoot enemies on the screen around you. As well as maybe putting a green scrap built tractor beam that pulls the junk in after it's broken down. I basically want the machines and tier 1 tech to look like something an warhammer 40k Ork would be proud of. Other than that it just needs a bit more small detail polish and working on the clunky nature of it, they would have a solid game then.

they could add an evil AI robot hellbent on polluting the world and make it a playable character. Make it asynchronous gameplay it could be similar to the aliens in factorio a swarm robot AI that can be controlled by players via a rts like system. Building factories and burning coal to produce swarms or something like that. If theres no one to play them an AI similar to factorio could probably suffice or something.

Hey Splat, there was a game you showed a year or so ago, that was similar. In it ships would bring scrap and drop it on the planet and you had to process it. Would you remember the name? Can't seem to think of it and would like to see how that one progressed.
