  • Join us in this deeply insightful sermon on the essence of prayer, brought to life by the powerful teachings of Paul Washer and R. C. Sproul. In this message, they delve into the unmatched significance of prayer in the life of a believer and challenge us to think deeply about our own prayer lives. The disciples asked Jesus to teach them only one thing - how to pray. This request reveals a profound truth: the greatest power in Christ’s ministry was in His communion with the Father.
    Sermons Featured in this SermonJam:
    1. Pray and Be Alone With God - Paul Washer
    • Pray and Be Alone With...
    2. If God is Sovereign, Why Pray?: Prayer with R.C. Sproul
    • If God is Sovereign, W...
    Key Points:
    1. The Power of Prayer in Jesus’ Life - Washer and Sproul highlight how prayer was central to Jesus’ ministry, surpassing even His miracles in importance. They examine verses like Luke 5:16 and Matthew 14:23, showing how Jesus frequently withdrew to pray, often alone, illustrating His dependence on the Father and setting a powerful example for us all.
    2. Intimacy with God - Prayer isn’t merely words but is a deep connection with God. Washer poses a question: When people hear you pray, do they hear someone who knows God? We are challenged to pursue the kind of closeness with God that comes only through consistent, earnest prayer.
    3. God’s Immutable Will and Our Prayer - RC Sproul addresses a profound question: Does prayer change God’s mind? Referencing Matthew 6:8 and John 5:30, he emphasizes that prayer aligns us with God’s will, which is perfect and unchanging, while inviting us to participate in His divine work.
    4. Persistence in Prayer - Jesus teaches us in Luke 18:1 to “pray and not lose heart,” reminding us that true prayer is a discipline of perseverance, where we continually seek God’s face without giving up.
    Bible Verses Referenced:
    Jesus’ Prayer Life:
    • Luke 5:16 - “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
    • Matthew 14:23 - “After he had sent the crowds away, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray.”
    • Luke 6:12 - “He went out to the mountain to pray, and he spent the night in prayer to God.”
    • Matthew 26:36 - “Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, ‘Sit here while I go over there and pray.’”
    Persistence in Prayer:
    • Luke 18:1 - “Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.”
    God’s Knowledge and Will:
    • Matthew 6:8 - “For your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”
    • John 5:30 - “I can do nothing on my own initiative.”
    Other Relevant Verses:
    • Philippians 4:6 - “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:17 - “Pray without ceasing.”
    • Romans 8:26 - “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
    • James 5:16 - “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”

Yes prayer can change God’s mind we saw this on 2kings 20 after God told the prophet to deliver a message to Hezekiah and Hezekiah prayed and God answered. We also see on Jonah 3 when the declared a fast we see God changing His mind and not destroying the city. We also see a similar reaction when the most wicked king in Israel (king Ahab) humbled himself and prayed 1kings 21v 27-29. God can change His mind when we repent and humble ourselves

God is omniscient. He knew that the people would repent, and he knew he would not do the thing he threatened. He also knew that by threatening chastisement the people in question WOULD repent. It was the praying people who changed their minds, not God. To repent is to change one's mind (and heart and direction.)

If you're referring to instances where God threathened wrath on His people and Moses interceded, that wasn't Moses changing God's mind, I believe that was God giving Moses a chance to show his love for the Israelites. It was an opportunity to reinforce Moses' love and leadership over the flock. You'll notice a pattern in the OT of God making a threat, Moses interceding, and God relenting. But in Numbers 20, we see the Israelites acting out, and God doesn't react with anger as He usually would, why? Because Moses is at his limit, he was too upset at the Israelites and would not have interceded, as we see by his following rebellion. So God didn't threaten them because it was not actually His will to strike them at that time. It's like with Abraham and Isaac, it was never God's plan have Abraham kill Isaac, He always knew He would provide the ram. It was for Abraham's benefit, to teach him to trust God.
      Prayer changes us, not God.

If you don't agree with parts of the Bible, better humble than trying to be a smart man, because you might be found as a liar as you said.

Interesting, why didn’t you preach on how our Lord, Yeshua, taught the Apostles how to pray found in Matthew 6:6-13. Yes you definitely show where the Christ goes off to prayer, but in the passage in Matthew He literally tells us how to pray. He even says the Lord’s Prayer as an EXAMPLE on how to pray but we have turned it into a repetitive prayer, which He warns against, Matt.6:7.

@@dennisgraham3087 Meditate on the meaning of the words you repeat. "They will be done on earth as it is in Heaven..." This is a prayer to bring the Day of the LORD in order to bring the renewal of all things, but it comes with intense labor pains. We should reflect on the words as we repeat them. DO we really want the day of the Lord to come quickly, or do we want to see our kids grow up first, or maybe we want to reach a certain place in our jobs...in other words, when you repeat each line of the Lord's Prayer, do you actually mean them?
When we pray, "In Jesus' name" are we just repeating the words, "In Jesus' name" or are we actually praying in his name?
(I apologize if this is long, but it is the easiest way to illustrate what I mean.)
When working in ICU, there are frequent crisis situations. I once had a patient who had sudden signs of a heart attack while on the unit for observation. I gave the usual emergency meds and asked my partner to phone the cardiologist. Before she could phone, the patient crashed. Not a total "CODE BLUE" but a serious sudden deterioration. As my partner made calls, I hung a very serious IV medication. I decided on the dose I would use to start, and I decide to go ahead and start the drip. The MD and Cardiologist were there within 20 minutes, but that 20 minutes would have been too late.
The patient was stabilized by the drip and sent to cath lab. She made a full recovery.
After she had been taken to the cath lab, I listed the meds and treatments I had given and signed the "order" with the attending physician's name and signed my name beneath. Later the MD co-signed the order, signifying that it was a valid and legal order.
In other words, I ordered the drugs in the name of the doctor.
I could do this because: 1) I had a legal relationship with the MD (an RN on duty and responsible for that patient.) 2) I knew it was the doctor's will that I do what I knew was needed. 3) I had a legal right to act in this manner (as a Registered RN with ICU training and experience, during an emergency.)
BUT if I had given the wrong med, or had I been a nurse's aide or receptionist I would have been in serious trouble. The doctor would not have signed off on the orders I wrote in his name.
When we pray "In the name of Jesus" it doesn't mean that we recite the sounds that make the name. It means we are in a relationship that allows us to do so, and that what we ask is in accordance with HIS will. Praying for selfish or unworthy things isn't "in His name", even if the name is invoked.

Yeshuah our king is the son of YA. YA sent his only begotten son. John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life
Seems to me by calling Yeshuah god and worshipping him as such causes the first commandment to be broken. Exodus 20:3 - Thou shalt have no other gods before me
Yeshuah himself refernced YA in heaven while he was here Just one of many examples. Mark 10:18 - And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
Yeshuah even prayed to YA referring to YA as his father Luke: 41-42 - And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
YA referred to Yeshuah as his son while YA was in heaven and Yeshuah was still on earth. Matthew 3:17 - And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
The lie that Yeshuah is YA is an old lie that believers used to be free from. In these last days it seems to be becoming widely accepted and causeth all to break the first commandment as soon as they allow themselves to be deceived by it. Please pray and wake up before it's too late. Time is definitely short.

Nope, I don't pray with anyone so they don't hear me pray like that. In fact I hardly leave my house except to get cigarettes.

Yes ,he is the founder of Heartcry Missionary Society. He feels so bad for not being perfect. He admits to his failures. He also has heart problems physically so at times he doesn't feel good. But mostly he has so much concern for others to go to the Lord in true repentance and belief. It hurts him dearly to.think of anyone walking out unsaved. He has a huge love.

No disagree with this 8 minute pastor your change of heart posture can change Gods mind about his relationship with you because you’ve changed your relationship with him. Ahab humbled himself and God changed his mind about the disaster he was going to bring on him. Hezekiah prayed begging god for more life and he gave him 15 years. Moses prayed to God and he relented and didn’t destroy his people and make a great nation out of Moses alone. Saying God has plan A and won’t change to plan B is asking the wrong question. We can’t say God gives some rigid military orders that can be absolutely known for a specific situation and individual- except what He wrote down in the bible. Plan A is only the word of God. So of-course you can’t change Gods mind about his written word. “You can’t change Gods character! -i don’t think there’s a plan A that we can even be aware of unless we pray so he has to also explain how do we even know what plan A is!!

God does NOT change his mind as you have stated. Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today & forever”. Otherwise if He did change his mind, He would not be omniscient, which means knowing everything. Therefore God knows what we will say before we speak, what we will do, before we do it etc…..

    • @antheafearon1632

To say that God waits for man to do something and then God will change his mind accordingly, does not accord with who God is.

God knows each and everyone of us, God knows what will happen to each of us, God has His plan and only that one.
He knew what each of the people mentioned in the bible would do. He was, is and will be.
He expected these people to beg and praise Him. Low key or blatant pride must be crushed before His plan can be executed.

Ah.. repeated prayer goes with the heart.. and yeah only Christ knows the heart.. If Christ teach us to pray but condemn repeated prayers then He didn't know me.. lol i don't even know what that means but hey.. would you go to the Judge and say you know you shouldn't pray repeated prayers like that.
    Err death wish?

The bible says not to pray in vain repetition. I'm not sure what you are trying to say.
