As an Atlanta fan I thought my hopes of Penix coming here was over with the Cousins signing. I'm absolutely fine with this move. In a couple years when we would be searching for a QB hopefully we would not be drafting anywhere near the top 10. This was their best chance to grab their future franchise QB without costing them an arm and a leg. Cousins is the perfect mentor for Penix
@@theFRACTALREIGN Thank you captain obvious. Not all content on this channel is 100% fantasy football all the time. How dare I talk about the NFL draft on a NFL draft watch party video. Shame on me
As a falcons fan, I’m devastated. I get the pick. But this was wildly a reach. This was by no means what we needed. We could’ve addressed this after the draft. We had a golden spot at #8 to address what we absolutely needed in order to lock in the south this year. This pick doesn’t benefit us in the slightest and while I like penix, this was not the right move for what we needed…
I get it. It’s got some good and bad for sure. But, bottom line is.. cousins won’t last forever, 2 years maybe then his deal has some outs. This is secure for Bijan, London Pitts 🔥
I think Penix was a good pick for the Falcons, but I have a question. Do you think that "part" of their decision was because another team (like the Raiders maybe) refused to pay the price they wanted to trade picks? So Atlanta said, If you don't give us what we want, we'll take him for ourselves.
Honestly, I think the Bears killed this draft. Caleb is easily walking into one of the best situations a 1st overall pick has ever been drafted into. Caleb and Rome to Saturn for dynasty.
As a Commanders fan I'm pumped that we finally got our QB. Love me some Jayden Daniels. Are we drafting JD5 before Caleb in 1QB rookie drafts this summer?
@@TheFantasyFootballShow, JD5, MHJ, Xavier Worthy, and maybe Brain Thomas Jr. were the only good offensive landing spots Nabers, Odunze, Bowers, Penix Jr., Bo Nix, Maye, and Xavier Legette are all dead now. And Caleb + McCarthy were dead to begin with 😅 as a Vikings fan I’m not happy
You keep saying “nail in the coffin” for Rice. The Chiefs are NOT going to cut him anytime soon. They cut Kareem Hunt and he got snatched up right away.
There are odds it could go all kinds of ways bro I say that. Likely he gets a year min bc he will plead guilty to avoid prison … but this could be all in 2025. Tons of ways could go. Might want to watch a current show tho.
@@TheFantasyFootballShow Too true. I have been expecting a 8-10 game suspension, but I don’t see the Chiefs moving on unless he is clearly blacklisted from the league…cause you KNOW that some team would snatch him up in the afternoon if he was cut in the morning.
How can you say Penix at 8 is a good pick in any way? They just paid $180 million for a QB. That will go down as the worst pick in a draft ever. He won't even see the field until his rookie deal is almost done. Not 1 aspect of it makes sense. I do not think Penix is a bad player, I just think he makes no sense at all for the Falcons there. They are either admitting $180 milllion to Cousins was a mistake or they are just plain insane. So many other needs and they picked the one position they should of not even have been considering.
The contract is heavily front loaded in the first 2 years. It's not that big of a hit to cut him after 2 years if he doesnt wave his no trade clause. The contract isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be.
@@D00BIESNACKS420the dead cap hit on Cousins is $90m in ‘24, $65m in ‘25, $25m in ‘26 and $12.5m in ‘27 which negates most of the value of having a QB on a rookie deal. This is a bizarre move that might work out if Penix Jr is a top 12 or so QB in the NFL eventually. However the opportunity costs working against this pick are massive. The Cousins contract is one issue. Then you have the Falcons passing on the consensus best player available in Odunze and the best defensive player in the draft to take Penix Jr who might not play more than a handful of games over the next 2 or 3 seasons. This is an abrupt change in a Falcons offseason of win now moves. It was also reported the Falcons turned down multiple offers to trade down passing on additional draft capital. They also passed on the much younger JJ McCarthy who has a higher ceiling than Penix Jr and who is better than Penix Jr was at the same age. Penix Jr is relatively old. At least he has 2 healthy seasons behind him. He also has a really nice deep ball but struggles at the short to midrange passing game which is odd. Maybe some of his success was due to Odunze, Polk and McMillan who are 3 of the better WR prospects in this draft. Polk and McMillan are probably getting drafted today. Falcons struggle to pressure opposing QB’s. Can’t win many games like that. It’s still an issue. Clearly the Falcons were higher on Penix Jr than most others. It’s a fascinating and bold move.
This happens... every draft. But... from a long-term perspective, this is an amazingly good move for the fantasy assets in ATL. I have a funny feeling Penix starts games, though.
@@TheFantasyFootballShow if he happens to start or get subbed in at any point, i’m loving the situation at the round 20 adp i got him in. I have him in 46 best ball teams
Defending Atlanta is such a hot take lmao.. enormous reach for a guy who is already 24 and won't start for 3 years.. when they have so many holes to fill..so bad
Reach? Sure, but smart, yes. He played 2 fully healthy years, his injuries are behind him, and he passed medicals with flying colors. Most ready QB goes to be a back up... strange? Yes. Protective and proactive? 100 percent. I love it. I defend it. It's weird, but bro i said the Jets should be doing this and the Falcons did it first.

total non-fantasy remark
Future franchise QB, hes 25 now, Kirk not happy
