It's been too cold to pour the concrete porches so we decided to move on to insulation so we can start finishing the inside of the house. Blocking the eaves to keep the birds out, air sealing the windows and spraying open cell foam in the roof and walls. It's almost a house!

The guy spraying did a horrible job, you will have the foam pull away in tons of places leaking air in. He should have ran down the corner of rafter and decking. Then, side to side filling the middle.

A few years ago, I read articles about people experiencing chronic illnesses that they eventually concluded was due to off gassing from their spray foamed roofs. I particularly remember one family recount that after their house was unlivable for months, finally took the extreme action of having their roof completely cut out and removed, then rebuilt from scratch.
In your research, have you seen any changes in the spray foam formulations? Any recent complaints of mysterious illnesses?

zzzzHUHzzzz here :) Guys, this is fabulous! Your walls look like cake frosting. :D This is a great step forward toward finishing the interior! Drywall is the next step, right? When do you get to do that? THAT is going to be a great day. :} So many great days... Love you guys, and it's great to hear from you and to see how you're doing! Working on drywall prep now since the weather is bonkers. Also I’m about 25% through AC Odyssey and hoping Spring gets here before I finish it!

Finish it? There is no such thing. I've been playing that game since my birthday mid-2019. I refuse to finish it. :) I. Freakin'. LOVE that game. I'm guessing you're Alexios. I'm not. :) But Jordan is. When he watches me play, he's fascinated by the different dynamic the story takes on with the alternative character. You should totally start again with the other character when you've finished... if you ever finish. :) But the house... you could make a ton of progress now that it's insulated and holding heat. I have a feeling this was a transformative phase for your project! :D

Progress for sure. Now have to figure out how to get 8000lbs of drywall into the house without a finished porch. 🧐 And I do want to play through both characters if I have the time. It’s a good game. 👍🏻😎

I love the way you explain things so clearly. You make it a joy to watch, even though the work is difficult to complete. Your patience and perseverance to do a good job is admirable.

I think you will be grateful you went with foam. What was your reasoning for choosing open cell versus closed cell? Can you start including the contractors you use for your house if they don't mind the free advertising.

At my dad's house / converted hay barn swallows used to fly in, poop every where, and build nests in the rafters (so drop grass on everyone's heads and set off our hayfever)
Solution? Long looong broom + insulating the rafters so there's no nesting space.
