My 13 year old daughter and I always watch a video or 2 together at bedtime and we would watch an event from the games when it was going on. You are her favorite and she’s always asking, any new videos of mal? She even swears she saw you here in north Mississippi the other day. You’ve inspired her to want to do the open next year when she’s 14.

I try to think of wellness in terms of a roller coaster. High School takes 4 years; the Olympics comes every 4 years; I sucked at running at year 1, was getting a little better in year 2, ran twice my best distance in year 3 and I might marathon run in year 4, but basically I try to pick something I want to focus on and not over push myself; I’m trusting that with 3 to 4 years of study and hard work I’d be ready for anything by that time, as long as I don’t overpush myself. In other words, anything you need to figure, you’ll get there, and if you decide to compete 4 years down the road; I think you’ll be ready. But you don’t need to if you don’t want to, just don’t think about it right now.
❤ I think her comment, "I'll train how i want" is telling and applies to everyone. Someone may have the best intentions for you, but you are not them. Everyone had a path set for her to be the next Tia, but she just wants to be Mal. See you in the future when you are ready.
Mal! Just listened to your podcast on Friendly Fitness. I’ve been doing CrossFit since 2013. I’ve been going through my own personal transition with my relationship to CrossFit + competition, which has defined me for so long…there are many intricacies to my story as I’m sure there is in yours. You sharing this is so timely + healing for my personal journey in ways you’ll never know. 💜 when you talked about the grieving process I relate SO much. Thank you for giving me permission to go find what makes me happy again. You are wise beyond your years! Thank you so much for having the bravery to share your story-it’s more healing than you know.
