Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This TH-cam channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

Fr man, newer companies like this need to realize standard white is the best route. I bought Vice’s golden golf balls when they first came out just for the hell of it when I had a scramble tournament to play in. Those things are near impossible to find if you don’t hit it in the fairway.

@@jpstpeter5516 I had a buddy give me a sleeve of the gold Vice balls and I'd never take them to the course. They're perfect for the simulator or putting green though! Especially this time of year with the sun getting lower, and leaves on the ground, it's damn near impossible to find even a white or yellow ball. But I play the white Vice Pro Plus and love them! In winter conditions i have lost balls in the middle of the fairway. My buddies and i call these kinda' shots the 'tiger woods rule' cause if we were on tour 5,000 people would be pointing at our ball no matter where it lands. Because of this, fairway shots and just off the fairway shots that are obviously visible from the tee are considered a drop shot with no penalty.

    • @craigcanterbury264

I put it head to head with a trackman and it spit out the same results about 95% of the time. One thing though, you HAVE to set it up properly for it to work. If it is off by a degree, you are going to get funky numbers so get out a measuring tape or a laser pointer.

My local course was built on a swamp. New owners don’t but $ back into it. Needless to say it’s wet. I was even par playing 9, crushed my drive on dog leg down left side of fairway, never found the ball. Plugged somewhere in the fairway. My league has a loose rule if everyone agrees to where it is u can drop if it should have been found. I dropped roughly where I thought it should be, made “par.” Subconsciously I think I tried to miss the “birdie” because of the lost ball. It sucks it happened, if there was a camera or spotter it would have been found, now I feel ripped on my nice round because of this. It would be great for amateurs for stuff like this. Pros never lose balls no matter where they r. Crowds, spotters, Marshall’s and cameras always know where the ball is.

It’s the limitations of Bluetooth connectivity. Usually Bluetooth only has an average range of up to 10 meters or 30 ft, but some have more powerful chips that can extend further. If you had a satellite tracked ball like some of these course apps with the phone, then you’d be Able to track it 3 holes over. but my guess it’s made so you can find it when you know the approximate direction or landing zone it’s hit to. Still cool as hell

Mr. Rick Shiels, I’ve finally subscribed but I’ve been watching your videos for years. I hate social media but your videos are excellent! You have an amazing draw to your swing. That’s a beautiful ball flight! I’ve been trying to get rid of my fade after futilely mimicking Fred Couples swings in ‘93 and I’m now 44.
I just want to say keep up the good work. I ordered some 770 irons in June and TM told me they wouldn’t be ready till Dec. No big deal, I can wait. I still smoke my Titleist DCI’s from ‘93. I’ve had these clubs for 30 years but I hope the 770’s make a huge difference.
My woods have always been hand-me-downs from my big brothers. I hope these new irons can prove to me technology has changed and maybe I’ll invest in new woods.
Keep up the great work and best wishes!

@Bobbo857 last round of golf I played I lost two balls one was in the fareway the other in the rough, the fairway one was annoying because I’d saved it from out of bounds with a great shot then couldn’t find it in the middle of the fareway. It was frustrating because that was the first ball I’d lost in 40 holes of golf.

I only play a few times a year, and I'm a higher handicap golfer ~25. I lose balls regularly in the woods and sometimes in the water. I've often thought this would be a cool concept. But, unless it floats and was able to be retrieved from the middle of a large water hazard, I'll still lose it. Also, bluetooth devices typically need to be recharged. How is that accomplished with this ball? As Rick says, it seems like a good start, and if a larger company could refine it, I might be interested some day. And maybe if I wear a wetsuit on the course, I could keep retrieving the ball!

It’s not GPS tracking, it’s only a Bluetooth LE chip with a tiny battery. Couldn’t fit the necessary components for GPS into a golf ball, not yet at least. I personally doubt this is possible to incorporate in a tour level ball, but I’m sure the big brands could make a mid level ball that has this tech. Just not sure it would have a wide enough appeal with the technical limitations you showed in this video.
    Great stuff as always Rick.

Its a great thing off the tee and maybe a 2nd shot with a fairway wood or hybrid. As amateurs and recreational golfers, theres nothing wrong replacing the ball with a normal ball to play after a tee shot. It'll help slicers and ducks alike especially if you hit your ball to a driving range. Don't hit with irons and maybe dont use for putting. But it's a good thing

    Great review Rick! 👏
The tech has a ways to go.
    Tldr: theoretical blahblahblah
The range problem has to be addressed first. Theoretically, if the course wanted to spend enough money they could put bluetooth signal extenders into the course spaced ever so perfect to give whole course coverage. They could then tie this into their on-board cart systems or offer a course app. Idk if it is possible to double the extenders to perform some form of triangulation? But that would help accuracy in finding the ball, probably to the foot.
The big names would have to re-engineer it to actually perform like a grade A golf ball should though. That sounded awful.
