I ecountered Justice Sotomayor as I was boarding a flight from Europe to U.S.A. As we smiled and nodded and as I thanked her for all she does for us, I was struck by how, in that brief moment, she exuded so much warmth and graciousness.

Not sad, just a fact that when one has the dream job, marriage, or whatever, there is something or somethings that are lost; given up; or both. At least they were both honest about who they were and what they both needed. The big lesson is sometimes love is not enough. Relationships are hard work and endurance. And then some...

His own insecurities of himself was why he could not be with her. Her success reminded him of what he wanted for himself that he couldnt reach and he couldnt handle that disappointment. He was too disappointed in himself and did not feel he deserved her. She basically reminded him of what he wanted but couldnt attain. So he really couldn't love her, because he didnt know how to love and accept himself. He shoudl have just went to therapy or something and worked that out.

I am not a fan of Justice Thomas because of ideology. But I have to defend Justice Thomas because I read that he is extremely shy and introverted. And he said the reason he did not speak up a lot is because his fear of his accent coming from his earlier days of childhood. But in reality he has a wonderfully deep voice and I cannot hear any accent in him.

Yep. Generations of women were told that the only way to attain equality was to reject being any part of being a woman that was no longer in fashion. Disdain motherhood. Avoid keeping a home. Work, and make work your one goal. Let your career supplant family and love.
Is it any wonder so many women end up like Justice Sotomayor? Alone. And, as she confesses, less happy. Having less fun than they thought they would.
Because of course. Women should be allowed to work. Women should be and are equal to men. But men and women are generally different. Why would many or even most women find happiness in the workplace? When for centuries they found it at the center of a family?

kim flash My understanding is that she had some major financial problems early in her appointment. Federal Judges don't make a lot of money to begin with. An attorney in his early 30's who is a partner or on a partner track, even at a small or mid-sized firm, probably makes more than they do in a year. It's sad to say, but she might have needed the money early in her appointment. Now, she is probably doing much better having written a successful book.

Thats not unreasonable. The Chief Justice makes $250,000 p.a., which is not a lot in comparison to senior partners at a NY, SF, LA law firm. They're also limited to making no more than $25,000 from lecturing.

They didn't try to make things work, because too often in American society, marriage is expendable, not highly important. Typical and sad.
