The trimmed Classic Tarot with the aged look is great! Well done. Thank you for showing this.

You’re very welcome Christine, I’m glad it helped! Sorry I waffled on about colour a bit too much but hopefully the video answered all the questions people may have about the differences and quirks of all 3 decks. 😊

Thank you so much for showing these three in comparison. So helpful. I'm going for the Anima Anitigua!

You’re very welcome. The Solleone version is oop now I believe? I read somewhere recently that the Solleone Soprafino was a facsimile of a very close copy of the original soprafino but I’m not sure on the accuracy of that. The three versions in my video are all direct facsimiles of the original I believe, with the Il Meneghello being the closest as it hasn’t cleaned up any of the original staining. The Anima Antiqua is my favourite for daily use now. Thanks so much for watching! 😊

Super helpful video! Thank you! Do you remember what you used on your copy of the Classic Tarot to make it golden?

Thank you… glad you found it helpful! I can’t remember the brand sorry, it was just a generic gold permanent marker. 😊

I never thought I would say this but the Scarabeo mass market seems to do these cards more justice than the other two. The Meneghello although beautiful , is a bit murky and the Anima Antiqua is a bit anemic. Love the vivid colours of the mass market one, they really seem to be the happiest setting for this deck and bring out all the lovely details. Love the trimming and edging too- it's very inspiring and I will try it too as I was lucky enough to find a copy after seeing it here. Thank you for this vid, it was very helpful!

Oh you’re very welcome! 😊 Yes the Classic is just lovely, especially as it’s so easily available and you don’t need to baby it. I bought a second copy of it so I could trim it and I left all the gold off this time. Enjoy your new deck! 🍀

For your information, the Ancient Italian Tarot from Lo Scarabeo is an ancient remake of the original from Carlo Della Rocca (1835). It was redrawn in Serravalle Sesia (Italia) in 1880. Comparing the "IL MATTO" cards, you can see easily (for example) that on the original of Della Rocca, the bag is touching is back, but in the Serravalle there is a good space.

I'm pretty sure from my research that the Ancient Italian is a close copy of the original Dellarocca deck with many differences including completely different minors. It's pretty well established that the images shown in the three decks I show here are taken directly from the original 1830's engravings by Dellarocca. There were several printers (including the Avondo brothers and Dotti) after Gumppennberg who did their own versions based off these images, but they're inspired by it rather than exact copies, and they took some liberties by making many changes. Bordoni reprinted the original Dellarocca/Gumppennberg engravings in 1889, and then the only other version was printed by Il Solleone in 1981 in a limited run. The Serravalle version (Ancient Italian) on the other hand was not initially made until 1880 some 45 years or so after these original images were engraved.

About La Stelle form Amazon: love this deck, I have older reproductions of it, but for this one, they did the Star card so dirty. Which really stinks because it is my favorite card in the deck. I don’t know why they felt the need to doodle stringy hair over her body and ruin the classic Italian art. Other than that though, the reproduction is amazing and the card stock is very user friendly. (No other cards were harmed)

I think it’s possibly a printing error. The classic tarot (also by Lo Scarabeo) doesn’t have the same anomaly. I can’t see why they would change any of the artwork purposefully, unless for some weird prudish reason. I never got a response from Lo Scarabeo to this question. It remains a mystery.

Guess I will buy classic mini and ancient italian full size. Wanted to buy Tarocco Sopraffino Anima Antiqua by Lo Scarabeo, but read that it's not good for working, kind of philological reprint@@bee_mailey

I ended up purchasing a backup clean copy of the Classic tarot. It’s exactly the same as the one I show here in the video except that the reversible star card image on the back is full colour instead of the reddish sepia shown here. It seems the playing card back version is not being marketed or sent out here in NZ anyway. I purchased both my copies from different online sellers and they still both have a version of the star card on their backs. No idea where they were sourced. You’d probably have to purchase the deck directly from Italy or another European seller to receive the playing card backs. That’s my guess anyway.

I bought a copy of the Classic Tarot with the different back directly from Alida in Italy.

Yep, it seems the printing for the European market has the different backs.

I don't understand why they covered La Stelle breasts.

I have to wonder if it’s a printing error. Especially due to the fact their classic tarot does not have this anomaly.
