Mine had a very unusual thin rubber washer that would be very hard to match. I followed your example and fixed the leak in 10 mins with graphite rope packing I had in my basement. Thanks a million!

I have the exact same no-frost faucet with the exact same problem. Numerous google searches came up with nothing so thanks so much for sharing this. I'll pick up some graphite rope and see how it does.

Simple, to the point, and easy to follow. Thanks, man.

I've been wondering how to fix my outdoor leaking faucet. My house was made in the 70s and the spigot protrudes from a wall made of rocks so I didn't want to mess those up. When I took the big nut, behind the round handle off, there was just a solid side with no way to get past. So I just ordered off ebay and am hoping this will stop the leaking. Thanks so much.

Thanks. I have the old style bibs too, and one had a decent leak. Pulled out the stem with the handle and replaced the small washer at the end, but still have a small leak unless I just tighten handle down crazy hard and tighten the bonnet nut super tight.
I thought I'd have to search for a suitable washer that would fit, and I saw another video that said you could just take a long length of good thread tape and twist that together to make something similar to that packing rope. If I can find this rope, I'll go with that, otherwise I might just try adding the thread tape and seeing if that does the trick.

Thanks! While trying to find a fiber packing washer to fix the same problem on one of our hose bibs, I went to several plumbing supply houses and _none_ of them suggested repairing this way! One sold me a similar washer that I should be able to cut down to fit but this seems a better technique because there isn't a chance that I'll make the leak worse (as there is if I dig out the current packing and try cutting down a similar one to fit).

A better view of how much packing you used and close up of wrapping it around the stem and screwing the cap on would be better.

I completely agree, however I’m not going to undo the work to get a closer view. I’d love if you could make a video and share when you do the repack on yours.

Have you (or anybody else reading this) been able to find out how to fix if it's leaking out of the hose side while turned off too? Mine is leaking from both, gonna try this on my handle side tomorrow!

Gotta turn off the water and disassemble the valve all the way, there's a little rubber washer on the end of the stem that needs replaced.

It only leaks when he turns on the water. The seal on the.stem is not the issue. No need to turn of the water as the seal is doing its job.

This was a useful tip. Just have to be careful to not turn the handle while you're unscrewing the cap.
