What advice would you give for a kid that likes grades. She's always been homeschooled but one day, my mom did school with her and I gave her letter grades and percentage and she her mom to do the same. I told her that the letter grade and percentage is not the point of what she's doing. And explain to her what is. But she likes the letter grades
This is a great question! To an extent we can all relate to the idea that we enjoy hearing praise for a job well done and wanting to know how we are doing. In this instance it sounds like she enjoyed hearing how well she had done expressed in that way. Ultimately it will be up to you to decide how you want to run your homeschool and navigate this issue. At a point evaluating exams, written narrations, and grades for high school will be necessary. One way to address this with your student would be to think of the task in terms of "best effort."
