    That's a good amount of chickens. Should hold you for a while. Sorry about one dying, but the reason for processing at 6 weeks is their hearts start giving out at about that age. If you get get them to 8 weeks they will be bigger, but you will lose a few by then. I follow my local chicken page for my area and I have learned a lot through them. Good luck and God bless. 💖💖💖

      It is crazy how fast they are growing. They are ready to be processed between 8-10 weeks of age. Your chickshaw seems to be working great. Blinda and I have considered one of the premier fencing options, but just haven't yet. I tend to think a little too long on most things. lol Seems like you have a pretty good success rate on the live birds.

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sometimes considering things for a long time is a good thing! So far the premier one fencing has been working great for us. I do however wish we would have gone with the posts with the extra metal push to use your foot to push it into the ground. We have rather rocky soil and tight clay and it makes it hard to get the posts in sometimes. Do you have rocky soil? If it you have sandy soil you may be ok with the normal posts.

      We did not loose any of our meat birds to predators last year. We did move them every day and we also had an owl on a pole that we moved every time we moved the shelter. We do see lots of hawks and owls on our property as well as coyotes and other predators.

    • @bluebirdhomestead
      @bluebirdhomestead  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well we are not 100% positive. We will get a final head count when we butcher. Since moving them out to the electric fence we have only lost one, which is the one we found in the video. When they first arrived and were babies we lost approximately 10. I assume they account for this loss, because we ordered 100 and they shipped 115.
