    Raising Chickens For Meat And Eggs Is EASY!
    Let's go over how to raise chickens for beginners and talk about some of the more advanced steps you can move towards. You don't have to be a full blown prepper to want to live a more self sustainable lifestyle and that starts with growing your own food. Chickens, quail and rabbits are all great places to start when you are looking for a source of food you can easily grow to feed your family.

    I use big fish aquariums for brooders,also if you put a pan with a rack over it then your water on your ducks or geese may not make as big of a mess

    Another protein option is hunting. One of my teammates who had land along the gulf said wild pigs are nuisance animals so they hunt them every quarter or two. Hunting is a declining activity in the USA but as a kid, we ate good thanks to Mike’s dad’s hunting skills.

    A few years ago, our city council went crazy and no longer allowed chickens! It wasn’t enough to just not have chickens, I had to completely remove my coop or face a $1000.00 a day fine! So… a large group of us fought back! It took a couple of years, but… we indeed did “fight city hall!” I have been so blessed to have my chickens that are 8 years old, still laying every other day! In the next week or so I will be getting new chicks. I pull weeds every morning this time of year to feed the chickens. I so love having my own eggs!

    • @3MISSISSIPPI
      @3MISSISSIPPI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Other opportunities came up . We got the chance to start on quail and I got into goats and breeding and milking which meant making cheeses etc. I’ve had pet rabbits over the years and we have eaten wild rabbit that Mike got but we haven’t started breeding and raising for meat yet. We had limited space in California so we had to cycle through the animals we did . Hogs, goats, sheep, quail, ducks, geese , meat chickens , turkeys and peafowl . Here, we have to start over and build everything from scratch for the animals . As I stated in the video , you have to take things one step at a time .

    • @3MISSISSIPPI
      @3MISSISSIPPI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most meat chickens ( Cornish cross) can be done at 4,6,8,12-16 weeks depending on your goal . 4-6 weeks is game hen size … then you have broilers and roasters. If pastured I like to wait to 12-16 weeks for the largest birds 5-7 lbs .

    My family used to raise rabbits, you will lose control of the population very quickly if you don't strictly regulate their mingling. It became a daily chore to pick up dead bunnies that stray pets and wildlife predators killed and it still didn't put a dent on the population.

      @@3MISSISSIPPI what was worse was when we had a heavy rain. Any rabbits that got out and dig burrows would drowned in their homes and we could fill a wheel barrow up with all of those dead bunnies. They also decimated or small family plot. When we got rid of every rabbit we found out we still had them only now they were wild and scattered throughout the property. We had to untrain our labs to deal. I remember a year after we got rid of the ones we could seeing my dad vigorously strangling one he caught for eating our cabbage sprouts. Being raised by sub-rural homesteaders, I use to get rabbit nightmares.
