Best Fitment video for this product , well done and thank you
That was very kind of you. Thank you for saying.
I installed mine a year ago nobody had a video on this installation the mistake i made was not snapping the corner trim before installing the swing out carrier and i also installed a titan 12 gallon spare gas tank on mine that looks good but i had to do some jerry rigging to make it work
Just installed! Video very helpful! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
When I purchased my LR4 it already had this tire carrier installed. It has always been pretty difficult to open and close the carrier, but I assumed that was how it was designed. It has been getting more and more difficult and now it takes pretty much all my weight to open or close it. I watched your video and you mentioned a bolt that goes up into the carrier from under the bumper into the cylinder that goes into the bumper. I also see that the one you installed opens with just the gas strut and is easy to close. When I look at mine I do not see a bolt in there, so I think it must be missing. So a couple of questions: 1) should I be worried about that bolt not being in there? 2) any idea why it is so hard to open an close and any idea how to fix it?
I'm sorry I don't know how to answer this without seeing the carrier. I would definitely recommend putting a bolt in but I don't think that is what's causing it to be difficult to open
...that latch appears legit
FYI: I did not have much fun installing on my LR3 in 2023. Some templates were wrong, probably for LR4. Then the swing away arm would not go into the holder. Had to buy a cylinder hone and enlarge the bushing. Works fine but poor instructions and QC.
If it makes you feel any better, we also have run into the cylinder not being large enough definitely makes it no fun
@Lucky8
Afternoon through similar BS when fitting a snorkel to my P38 I swore I would never buy anything from Terrafirma again. They don't even give you templates for the snorkel.
I hear you, but they're the only ones willing to make parts like this so I tend to forgive a lot of the little issues
im not sure why I keep off on purchasing this carrier. just need to do it
They are really nice !
So I’m trying to remove one here at the shop I’m working on due to the rear bumper needing to be replaced, I looked underneath where the bolt and washer should be but there’s neither, I’m not sure if the whole swing arm is seized on or what’s going on can anyone give me a tip on how to remove the swing arm alone to remove it?
Update, it was seized on
Whoever installed it didn’t put the M10x30 bolt and washer on the bottom side so it confused me a bit. I just used a 18mm impact socket + extension and hammered the lower end until it moved up enough to pull out
good to hear you got it figured out.
Just fitted mine, the wheel doesn’t sit flush to the mount and had significant wobble. Seems the bots supplied are too shallow to create a seal, how did you overcome this?
I'm a little bit confused the mount is fully adjustable. The wheel should sit flush on it.
@@Lucky8 it sits flush but the bolts provided do not tighten flush and this allows the wheel to wobble, I’m going to have to sheer the fixed bolts off the back and add a plate and threads to allow the fix to be tight and flush.
Something doesn't sound right at all. You shouldn't have to cut or weld anything
@@Lucky8 I worked it out the back plate came pissed so I had to use different amount of washers to get it to sit flush 👍
Did Justin say "5/32" at 10:03 in the video? Installing this now, and the bolts seem a bit bigger.
Sorry Justin drinks
A Lot
Best most concise install video on TH-cam, I especially like the thourgh coverage of the flares and bumper cover removal, taking careful note of the location of all the plastic retainers and metal screws. Well done thanks!
That was very kind of you. Thank you. I'm glad it helped.
Aside from the price, is there any benefit to using this over an entire new rear bumper with a tire carrier? I like the idea of a metal rear bumper as the butt of the LR4 sticks out so much, but I could see the a drawback being lugging around the extra weight all the time.
Just the issues you brought up. Cost and Weight. Although I have bumped and bruised my rear bumper, I have never felt the need for a steel one
I wish a version for my L320 2008 ...At some point I will take my bumper off to see what's what and decide
I'm betting it's going to be very close
@@Lucky8nothing comes easy or fast for me. I need to get my knuckles bloody, swear for an unspecified amount of time ,loose my 10mm 4-5 times , you know, the works. I will email Terrafirma to see if they can provide only the bracket (not for free of course ) for me to experiment on my RRS
Its a nice unit. That over centre latch is a work of art. This is expensive in the uk though
That latch is definitely something. Don't feel bad. They're expensive here to.
Yeah luckily the previous owner of my UK D3 paid for it. The invoice says £989😮. Sadly Bearmach are now out of business.
A 5seat LR4? Now that’s a rare bird!
I didn't know that. We only shop on color in that car happen to be the right color.
Great video thank you for the detail!
Glad it was helpful!
Will it trigger the proximity sensors?
That is a great question. Depending on how large the tire is , it will more than likely trigger the sensor.
Got one on my car and it doesn't affect the parking aid sensors.
I have 275/65/18 and the sounder goes off every time I go into reverse.
