Agree wholeheartedly on this type of deck being best as an aggro deck. I boosted my version of this with Basri Ket and Basri’s Lieutenant and started losing more often. Gnarlid Colony & Wildwood Scourge are key differences with my deck. Gnarlid, in particular, improved my win rate.
Thx Cgb, i have just tried the deck and got 8 wins and 2 loses! Since i dont have Tempels and Pathways i modified the mana base using 6 snow forest,5 snow plains, 4 fable passage and 4 green-white snow lands and 4 faceless haven. It worked just wonderfull!

With guiding voice in the main (to help discard extra legendary copies, I really recommend 2-4 copies of Shaile in the main. It has been a absolute beater alongside Wildwood Scourge and Conclave Mentor.
51:49 the rouges player chump blocking with his windrobber then sacrificing it to draw a card against TRAMPLE is the smoothest brain play I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like they don’t actually understand how to play magic and just looked up a stupid strong deck to play to just win 🤔🤔🤔

in this deck i like taking a page out of the rogues players' book and play Blessing of Frost. even though it's sorcery speed it's almost always 4 mana draw 4 + which makes it nearly as good as Into the Story for me. tho going snow would make the mana base a little bit worse
I'm still working towards getting this deck. It's one of the few decks that looks obtainable for someone like me that has a hard time earning wild cards. :)
I know you always say that you've thought of most cards NOT in your decks, but Sparring Regimen seems like a good 1 of or more. It lets you learn and drop counters on stuff for free.
I have done the same thing to orzhov vampires in historic and just lowered the mana curve and its taken me from bottom platinum to diamond in 2 days. But I hate it haha. I want to okay so many cool cards that are too expensive. Pride of the Conquerors vampires ftw.
is the interaction between star pupil and the ozolith correct? both are referring to the specific counter on the pupil to be moved.. but theres only one to be moved. but in this case, the counter is virtually doubled
just learned that the in depth rulings of the ozolith state that the counters are not moved, but the same type of counters is put on the ozolith. so Arena is working fine
CGB, what's up with not maximizing your Serpent? Allot of turns were you only paid two or three with more lands available? Was it to bluff other spells?
36:27 that’s the core thing I find with mono red players, they don’t actually know how to play the game. They have no concept of the game outside their deck.
The core thing are people categorizing players to the decks they play. Mono red - dumb Rogues - dumb and lame Ultimatum - lame ... These categories are so dumb and wrong. Most losses are just not drawing the right cards at the right time.
@@Nightknight1992 right but Pupil says "you may put its counters on target creature, and Ozolith says "put those counters on Ozolith" So it could be something to do with the whole "state based" idea where both cards are looking at pupil in the state it was in when it died/left the battlefield Where normally you'd think the counter put on the ozolith would make the pupil trigger fizzle since there is only one physical counter Edit: Gatherer actually has a note about this! They clarify that "putting" counters on something is not moving them. Very interesting

28:20 how come when he casts stonecoil off lurus he doesn’t just max it out? My only thought is that he’d save some mana to bluff a trick, but he says right after “I doubt my opponent would care for a bluff”. He did it another time earlier too 🤔
If you cast Stonecoil Serpent with Lurrus's ability, the max value you can set X to is 2. I was confused about that at first as well. There was a point in the video (can't find the timestamp, sorry) he tried to cast it with X = 3, the client didn't let him.

As a player that tried desperately to do the counter theme using higher cc cards, I have to say your analysis at the end is spot on.
I played a lot with this archetype and agree, the best success i had was with creatures at max cmc of 3, but while playing henge to pop off

Rogues players do that a lot against trample, it’s almost like green isn’t a color they come up against often

For some reason this deck feels like a budget deck. It might be becouse the lurrus, aspirants and serpents are must haves crafted long ago.

wildwood scourge is a great uncommon to add to the deck , each time u put a +1 counter on a non hydra creature it’s gets a counter
Surge is just green Embercleave that you don't just always have.

You can only play him with X = 2 from the GY using Lurrus. Playing 3 drops or higher from there isn't possible with Lurrus.

Lurrus restricts all your cards cast from GY using him to be 2-drops at most, even if they could be cast for more.
