I loved Olive and The Road. The Overstory felt like a collection of short stories to me. Maybe I’ll try to read it again sometime but Powers writing also made me feel that way in Playground so I don’t know 🤷‍♀️. The way he described the plight/ blight of the Chestnut tree was so beautiful though. I’ll never forget it. Looking forward to Lincoln in the Bardo! 🙏

Bernie and Chris are my secret soulmates as fellow reader walkers, along with Middle Sister.

I admire that though don't think it could ever be me. 😆

Washington Black is so beautifully written. The Overstory surprised me in such a good way. And Eric you should totally have a conversation with Daisy Rockwell - she is such a warm and witty person.

I loved both Gilead and Lila but I was at my mid 30s when I first read Gilead. I have also read Housekeeping but although I did like it I didn't love it like the other two.

Blonde Roots is a wonderful book and I don't know if it's just me but I think I can see more of Bernandine in her first character, the playwright.

Bernie, The Road may be my favorite book, for the reasons you state. The crying too!

I know you were fans of the Charlotte Wood title on the Booker - you might also enjoy the Stella Prize (Australian prize) ✨

Yes! 👏 I’d like to follow it more closely although the trouble is some of the books aren’t usually published in the UK so must be expensively imported. 😕
