Before RTK days, I worked at a drone company in 2014 and we spent months trying to get an accurate landing with lasers, etc. RTK was a game changer it came out

you didn't talk about the rtk base/reference station. where was that placed?

Thank you!! Any board that uses the F9P ublox chip should work. I'm using the ardusimple board but the spark fun board would work as well

Quick question, doesn't RTK need a base station to function? Thanks.

Curious ... was the RTK module compatible to the original pseudorange GPS plug?

So my drone uses regular gps and can land on a dime because it also takes a picture during take off and re aligns during landing

    Awesome work👍
But do you have to have a base_mount in order to use RTK?
    Cheers.

I don’t know if this is true rtk as you need a base station that the drone uses as a reference point. Did you have that or are you using some kind of service like Ntrip or Rtk2go?

Are you using a local base station or an internet based service

    • @thedronedojo
      @thedronedojo  ปีที่แล้ว +7

For this video I was using an internet based base station. My phone hotspot was the 'in the field' router

I am wondering, if mobile base and fixed base station could be combined to eliminate the compass and have precision navigation at the same time.

(polished by llama3 to ease the understanding, down you have the original idea that I was thinking from my ADHD mind)
The primary purpose of an RTK (Real-Time Kinematic) system is to calculate the deviation of the GPS location from a fixed reference point. This fixed point serves as a constant anchor, unaffected by changes in the GPS signal. When the GPS signal deviates from this fixed point, the RTK system sends the deviation data to the mobile station, which then uses this information to determine the true location, taking into account the deviation from the fixed reference point.
It's important to note that having two mobile stations, with one acting as an RTK, would not achieve the same result. This is because both mobile stations would still be relying on GPS signals, which can be affected by various sources of error. In this scenario, the 'RTK' mobile station would not provide a reliable fixed reference point, as it would still be subject to GPS signal deviations. As a result, the system would not be able to accurately calculate the deviations and provide a precise location.
Original from my ADHD brain: I think the need of an rtk is to calculate the deviation of the gps location from the fixed point (where it should be fixed always, regardless of the position signal from the GPS) - and when gps signal deviates from the fixed point (where it should be fixed): then it sends that gps deviation to the mobile station telling what is the true location including the deviation of the fixed point.

I'm trying to build a mapping Drone with rtk and a mechanical shutter. I am planning on trying to add a machine learning model on it in the future also. All the other parts are more basic. I need help finding the right parts and getting the Drone to work. Do you know of any people or resources that can help me?

So where is the other component of the RTK system? It's all a bit vague. It's not a real RTK system. If it was then you could achieve 1cm.
