For those asking, yes, the T49 from WoT in it's elite configuration is basically the prototype version of the Sheridan. That's why they look so similar.
When I signed up for this it was for CBT, but I also did a servey saying that I did have experience playing games like this, and many other Modern day/WW2 senarios. Then a month later I was accepted into well the thing that comes before Beta testing.
It's derpy. Nuff said, i want one :D

It still makes me giggle that Obsidian, a veteran RPG studio, one day had a board meeting and decides "fuck dis shit we're hopping onto dat tank battle hype train WOOHOO"
Helmstif, the Sarcastic Asianman seems like it could be better than the other 2 games though.

C'mon Obsidian, I'm rotting away in WoT..
And by the way i quitted wot entirely a month ago. Not only the bad community, or the bad decisions by the devs...in my special case it was caused by the strive to improve my xvm stats. Ive taken this shit game far too srsly and i was unable to enjoy it as a game anymore. That was the final blow that made me quit wot. I have invested well over 500€ in this game. Ive been playing since 2012 and the way this game is going does not match my way of an enjoyable game and reasonable developement decisions. I feel like wargaming is driving the game against a wall right now and i dont wanna be part of this project anymore. Those harsh words come from a former fan of the game. I used to love this game to bits and i hate to see where this is going.
On the other hand i REALLY hope Obsidian will develope the best tank game on the planet. Im happy to invest in AW as soon as possible. As an alpha tester i will follow progress of this game closely and im more than happy now.
You know those are just my 2 cents but i feel like i had to get rid of my thoughts finally
Der Pfisch Yep, this needs to be the printed and posted on all WG office door's. They have ruined a great game. I would go for these 3 problems:1. They made the game worst by changing the thing we LIKE.
2. They allowed forbidden mods to run wild and even approved it.
3. They allow the worst behaviour ingame (TK's, insults, spam, nazi crap etc)

Plazma Keks Yes, those are some really strong points. I desperately hope AW will do a better job, I really hope so. As it is in closed Alpha stage atm, the testers and the community can still make a huge impact on the game design. I read an article on FTR a while ago where your website was linked. I was astonished how many mods there are, free for everyone to use. Even worse is that maybe your average tomato might be using it against you without you even noticing it. I have not downloaded any of them by the way, just to clarify this.

The USA just had to have an air drop tank. (BMD counter) And it needed an anti tank missile system. And be able to fire tank shells. I have read that once you went from missile to shell firing, that the recoil messed up the ability to go back to firing missiles. Its the reason TOW missiles fly from a box and not a gun tube. The USA tank line was not much to look at until the M1 platform was fielded. The AGS / M8 was to replace this but with the Striker MGS being fielded to fill the role of US medium weight Brigades.

habjn What you are referring to is known as the Closed Alpha Test (beta is it's old name) and it has been going on since Q1. "early access" (which is what follows the Alpha Testing) will begin sometime soon; within the year.
But i want to play this awesome game now :3

Wait wait wait, so you're telling me that the Sheridan is tier 4 out of 10? Will light tanks go up to tier 10? If so, there must be some crazy good light tanks to fill those high tier spots.
JWQweqOPDH It's not finalized, they're referring to the alpha test in which there was only five tiers because there weren't many vehicles in the game at the time. On release, I suspect it would be much higher tier, like 7 or 8.

or, maybe, even an MBT. modern ones, perhaps even abrams itself.

This is a really well designed light tank. Its weapon is perfect for Sheridan to serve as missile tank and its 152 mm weapon work wonders at supporting advancing infantry. It's also very light and mobile which makes it perfect for its intended role. It's pity that USA decided to degrade its paratroopers to the point of non-significance.

It was ahead of its times. 152 mm gun on the other gun provided massive firepower support and great potential for atgm launched from its weapon. You forget that their anti tank rockets were the most powerful at that time, capable of destroying any enemy tank at that time. Sheridan trades armor for mobility and firepower in which it's vastly superior than other vehicles. You forget that of course? Newer versions could be slightly heavier, but I doubt that it could have all around protection from 14.5 mm armor piercing machine gun shells.
Nowadays you could reduce crew to 3 with electronics enchantments. Previous faults can be easily removed. Price and protection can be increased with titanium armor and soft/hard protection. This concept has tons of potential to be terrific vehicle even today.

No, you are not listening, just repeating like a parrot that you wrote in your first comment. Sheridan's missile was one of the most powerful missiles at its time and with 152 mm launch platform it retains most room for further upgrades. The only problem with Sheridan that it came too early and USA engineers were too incompetent for such complex piece of machinery. They could not solve problems which it had at the time. It has nothing to do with a design mind you since most if not all of problems which were plaguing Sheridan are solvable by today's solutions.
Gun launched designs are not flawed. They are brilliant! Ever heard about missile tank concept? They fit well with light tanks who cannot take more tonnage with them.
1) Problem of missiles are not tank's fault. They are easily fixable;
2) Caseless shells are trade off between space and safety. If you reason like a Soviets did, if tank gets penetrated, there is a small chance for crew to survive anyway. With Sheridan, modern solutions in armor would make this true. Getting your side pounded by 30 mm auto cannon does not spell wonders for crew's survival chances;
3) What do you consider good mobility then?
4) What good protection for you is then? 30 tons Bradley tragedy then? I imagine an armchair general as you will be throwing 30 ton vehicles with your paratroopers.
5) What is wrong with its firepower? 152 mm gun provided terrific fire support as was noted while missile in theory were supposed to deal with other threats. I hope you do understand that we are talking about 152 mm caliber here. It's basically artillery piece pointed directly at you.
6) Do you think that other high caliber weapons do not produce smoke? Any high caliber weapon will reveal vehicle's position to the enemy. Once again, it's a trade off, not a fault.
7) You lie. Sheridan is protected from heavy machine guns.
While you missed most problematic fault, I just showed that majority of problems are not really that serious and the rest can fixed. Reality is far from bias you hold against this tank.

We do not use such calibers anymore partly because our military sophistication deterioted over time. Another thing is that doctrine has changed for the worst in my opinion.
152 mm are great for internal missiles, HE rounds, HEAT rounds. It's a great support cannon. The problem with this caliber as an AT weapon is that our technology did not yet matured to such levels. Russians who are ahead in tank development than us are implementing this weapon to T-14 from its infamous T-95 Black Eagle project.
We got lazy since the fall of USSR and we canceled a lot of revolutonary research projects. A lot of billions were wasted with undisciplined and ineffective R&D sector. USA for example largely started wasting time after 90's. Even though, I hope that arm race will reignite and we will finally develop 140 mm caliber ourselves which by now supposed to be fucking standard in our tanks...
Actually, we cancelled dozens of projects.
They were all failed, that is why we cancelled them.
Also, the 152mm Russia might move onto; will not be a light-tank short recoil 152mm.
On the same front, the tank will have very little room for ammo and if it wants room for ammo, it won't have room for armor.
To move from 120mm, means we have to get new guns, autoloaders, new software, new lasers, new range-finders.
That's most of the cost of the tank.
Then you need a new turret, maybe a new chassis, maybe a new engine, and new armor to put on that new turret.
Along with new ammo for the tank and new MGs.

***** No it wasen't, just because you saw it in WoT doesn't mean it's true. The T49 was an upgraded Walker Bulldog with an experimental 90mm. The hull was later used to save on costs for the Sheridan prototype.

the T49 has a sheridan turret and the hull of the walker bulldog, the sheridan got it's own hull i believe.
Yeah, as you'll notice in WoT, the Sheridan prototype turrent is listed as the test bed early model to test the gun launcher. There was no need to develop a new hull for that phase of testing.

soundslave It was really only op if you were able to hit. the BMP-2 with its 30mm auto cannon destroys Sheridan's if they miss.

My loeopard was consistently one shotted. That was my experience of the Sheridan. Completely one sided fight. Sure it's a tier higher than me, but 1 tier shouldn't be such a massive performance gap.

+Mighty Wolf Granted, Obsidians has never been very good graphic artist. See Fallout New Vegas... But since they're using the cry engine and took 2 years to develop, they don't have a lot of excuses. WoT was a project that they thought wouldn't of taken off as it did. Also, the budget wasn't very big. It takes a long time to port a game to another engine and constantly upgrading an old engine. However, WoT's tank models are superior.

Enough with the teasing, release the damn game already. If they put as much time in developing instead of just promoting and building hype, it would be done by now, this waiting and waiting is getting ridiculous.

stan smith you see, these videos (in total, and if there aren't 2 separate teams that do this and i am pretty sure there are) dragged it out for about a few hours. maybe slightly more.
but, again, it's likely they have a different group that focuses on this stuff rather than coding and that pretty much no time was spent on this that would've went into the game development.
