I also feel like classics having such a hard time looking put together is strongly related to the style and the fashion of the times we live in. Fashion has never been more casual and blended types feel the effects of that the strongest. Classics probably have the hardest time in this day and age but in a different era say fex the 1950s, or the 1860s they wouldn’t have struggled at all simply because the dress code in general was much more formal and structured.
Tell me about it....I'm classic 🥲
100%
Couldn't agree more!!
Exactly. I'm a petite Blended Soft / Soft Classic and it has never been harder to shop for clothes. The trends have all been towards oversized, unstructured, gender-neutral clothing for ages now. Trying to find structured tailored clothing in my size feels like an exercise in futility sometimes.
This is literally my favorite video of yours❤ please consider making this video into a series, like how can you look edgy/casual/romantic/playful/formal, etc and go through each body type
I second this
Can't agree more! You inspire me!
I agree too. . this so interesting topic🤩 i love it ❤
honestly. i love your quiet voice haha it's like asmr to me :)
When this video first started playing and I heard her voice for the very first time ever, I thought that she was going for the ASMR effect, too.
Totally. She is a natural, especially when she talks calmly. Unintentional asmr par excellence ❤
Such a sweet voice
I loooove your point on elegance being a philosophy and a way of life. That honoring your own beauty and lines is a sign of self respect.. and that comes across as elegance. I feel that when I am in a look that is harmonious with me-like it's a way of showing yourself respect. Beautifully said! And thank you for the incredible video, Merriam🩷
Excellent video. 🏆
Love your longer, very detailed videos. Never boring. Always interesting and informative ❤
I feel like these tips not only help us be more elegant and stylish within our unique lines, but it also helps with ensuring that we make more mindful or intentional purchases. This is turn also helps us manage our tendency to splurge, keeping our wardrobes refined and our wallets fuller 😂. So thanks!!!!❤
As a rounded type, I look best in dewy makeup and I need to buy more jewelry 😂❤
Merriam, your eye is such a gift! Your Full Report recommendations completely changed my look + perception of myself. I never would have considered myself a rounded/mixed, olive, or muted if not for your help. You've helped me feel beautiful.
I tried a "typing" service from another creator and the report was so cookie cutter and inaccurate - I was shocked. I hate to think about the other clients who have been misled by inaccurate typing.
I'm so glad you offer typing services and these videos. You're helping so many women understand themselves and their innate beauty. ❤
I also think the Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen dress like Naturals despite being very petite. Their style to me is a master class in natural style.
This makes so much sense! I could never figure out why a bold or dark lip looks so strange on me even if the color was right for my skin tone. I’m a beveled firm (I think) so that’s why!
I like the quiet videos - relaxing and informative!
Me too.
Same
WOW you really did your thing again Merriam. PERFECT VIDEO
Love - Saadet
Hi, just wanna say you're one of my favorite ASMR channels
aw thank you, I get that I sound like ASMR a lot, but I don't intend to. Out of curiosity, what other asmr channels do you watch? Do you watch them to fall asleep? I'm not terribly familiar with asmr so I'm curious.
@@merriamstyle Damn I wrote a comment but looks like TH-cam ate it....
I mostly listen to ASMR to fall asleep, but sometimes just put it on for background noise.
I listen to a lot of "not" ASMR channels purely for the ASMR effect. My favorites are Owlmoon513, Wendy Bones Tarot, Dr. Tamitha Skov.
Then there's grey area channels like Sit Back ASMR that are curating unintentional ASMR content to be consumed in an intentional ASM way.
Of the "intentional" channels I listen to my go-tos are Nebula ASMR, Gnarly ASMR, Mauve ASMR, VisualSounds1, Miss Manganese ASMR. There's a pretty good spread there of roleplays, solo rambling, and presentation of captured or manipulated sound FX (that last type of video I generally skip). Gentle Whispering was the first runaway success of these kind of "traditional" ASMR channels (though she was far from the first).
Then there's a channel like A T M O S P H E R E that is pushing the state of the art to full on cinematic experiences.
I actually really liked the second look. The sparkly eyeshadow wasn’t applied in an over the top way, it was a colour that wasn’t too contrasting, and while it all looked like “more” than it would on me (probably soft dramatic) I honestly didn’t feel that it was too much?? It probably wasn’t super elegant which is what this video was about but it was still really nice and it was cheerful, I think it would be such a cute look to go to a birthday party or to go out for dinner for an anniversary or something like that 🥰
What a thoughtful and necessary video. Thank you for these insights. It truly is important to have self respect for your beauty regardless of how others perceive it. Your voice is beautiful and I like that it is low.
You find such helpful photos to represent your examples, wonder how long it takes you lol!
In my opinion when it comes to the body type community you have some of the most interesting takes and I think it’s because you have a very artistic/intuitive approach
I love it!! Please make this a segment, and do one for romantic essence for all the body types
I loved this video. With yours the longer the better. So detailed. As being typed as a SG I still cannot give up my longer hair. I keep it blunt with face framing layers and some internal laying in the back. Bobs are cute, but I don't feel good in short hair.
I always look forward to your videos!
From your pfp you could def go short but you'd be trading cute gnd look for chic mommy(cause ur hot ykwim) CEO look
Merriam, thank you for such an in depth video. I’m a DC, you got to my part early on, but I ended up watching the entire video because it was so educational, plus your voice is lovely and soothing
I second all you said about rounded/romantic (being one myself). The first struggle is to dress up enough. The blended/classic lines look desperately causual on me, as if I've just grabbed the first two clean pieces to not go around naked. To just look put together causual, I need some kind of pattern, texture, pastel or bright color, sparkly detail. To really look elegant, it's sparkles, over laces, over ruffles, over pastel flowers patterns. As absurd as it sounds, it really never looks clownish.
As for jewelry, I got a bracelet which I thought would fit my kibbe recommandations, 5 rows of zircons, surely it will be sparkly enough. It just melds into my wrist. I could just go do my groceries, I bet no ones would notice...
Wow, you have such a gift! I can tell when something looks wrong, but I have no idea why. Makes dressing so difficult. I definitely need your help, so will check out your website next. Thanks for your videos!
I’m so grateful for your videos over the years. Your insight into SG has been invaluable, allowed me to look the way I love, feel my personal style, and save so much time and doubt when looking for clothes.
This video articulates and affirms what I felt myself: that I need (and love) sophistication, details, and sexiness (in a SG way) to look grown-up, put-together, and elegant and that on me it doesn’t look like ‘too much’, it looks just right.
Could you do a video on telling the difference between ethereal and classic, ingenue, and natural. I see lots of confusion around these
Upvote!
your way of explaining beauty is elegant ❤
You sound normal to me! I can't watch so many American youtubers - they sound as if they're shouting obnoxiously with a blocked nose, so keep speaking elegantly!
Once again Merriam making life wonderful!!!!
This was really a wonderful , one of your best with the examples and explanations 🎉I luved this video, thank u again😊❤
amazing video with explanations- Merriam you're a true master of your skill. thank you! 🙏♥
Great analysis, thank you!
OMG this video is AMAZING. I love it so so so so much. The images perfectly illustrate your point.
You’re the best, Merriam! Thank you.
Amazing and eyeopening🎉
Do Romantics suit cottage core style? I'm Theatrical Romantic and love the cottage core style but it can make me feel a little too twee and cutesy.
I feel as DC I often have to go for blouse type of blazers/jackets because anything else like regular blazer makes me look too stiff or masculine.
Hi, what you mean by/with "blouse type" of blazers/jackets?
That is a lot of info! Thanks. Very informative
Thank you this is perfect for my classic essence! 😊
Fantastic ❤. I am a romantic round. It’s easy for me to look dowdy in the wrong lines. I see what to do now, much better. Bravo. 👏👏👏👏👏👏🏆🥇
Amazing video per usual!! I am a Mixed gamine (fg) and love the classic look, very Natasha from satc and always struggled w the playful element for my style as a young adult. I know understand what I can and can't do, so thanks!
Such a fab video. Sharing it now!
Τhat was very good! Thank you.
"Avoid: pretty much everything" lol :)
You're amaziiiiing!!!!!!
Thank you so much for this video, it's extremely helpful.
Can you please do this with all the other essences?
Your voice is beautiful. You are very talented, you have an amazing eye for fashion and aesthetics. 🤍
Hi Merriam, I wonder if the rules for blended sharpened apply for blended beveled
I would love a video about fabrics for each body type, specially nightwear and detailed fabrics (which are hard for blended types bc of detail, of course)
I love all of your content ❤🎉
Can I be more than one type ? Love this video. Sometimes I look juvenile so I know why. Thanks Merriam ❤
I am SC who is also a Bright Spring, and everything soft and blended makes me look way too washed out...what should i do 😶
Just use your colors, that's all :)
This was a passionating video. But I believe that you are wrong about the SG example. She looks so great and elegant in that historical piece and better than in some other examples you gave
Please do ‘casual' looks for the body types
I am a FG and I have a hair pretty similar to Lilly Collins, I love bangs but I dont like to have them all the time, which other hairstyles would look good? I read sleek hair on the video, like the one that is trending now?
Congratulations again new mom Miriam!
Great video. Question: What body type does Rachel Bloom have?
Thanks for this video. Great tips. Can warm and delicates, who are also dramatic ,wear black? In other words, does body type "trump" color type?
yes I'd say dramatic wd can wear black easily, especially if they have dark features. body type doesn't exactly trump color type, but they interact.
hey merriam! love this vid so much, and yes for what it's worth, I simply love the calming asmr voice.
was wondering if you would ever do a video on fast fashion/trends/consumerism/brands to avoid for more sustainable lifestyle and fashion. I feel like these core ideas go hand in hand with the idea that if you know your body type, essence, and colors, you don't need to overconsume/buy as much clothing; one can live a more sustainable lifestyle buying clothes that work for them long term. i feel like you've done similar content before when talking about trends, but I would love to hear your thoughts on this, as well as encouragement from you to not shop fast fashion!! (it's worth checking out the recent HBO documentary on brandy melville, it's what made me want to request content like this!)
For me recommendations to do and avoid for FN and D sound so similar. I'm still a little confused😊
What if your face is similar to Lily Collins, so mixed-taut, but your body type is Classic? Any advice on how to style yourself in that case? Thank you for your videos :)
Yes, head to toe long lines would drag me right down. Petite mixed taut.
Another lovely video Merriam❤…did I understand well that for beveled firm (FN) is better to avoid red lipstick 💄?? Really? It is a first time I hear it …could you tell me more?😍as I always struggled to wear a red lipstick being beveled firm myself 🙈
yes! have you watched my video on why you can't pull off a red lip? it's sort of recent, it covers that. basically if you don't have very soft features, your make up is most effortless if it has an emphasis on the eyes and neutral lips, with mostly neutral colors.
❤❤
GREAT VIDEO!!
QUESTION
How do I (Cool bright Soft Beveld Ethirial essence) wear softer colors without looking like I'm in pijama/night cloths???
Literally I can be wearing all black and look amazing then put on ONE soft colored accessorie/scarf/blazer and look like I'm "going night night" 🤣
I'm just trying to play around with Ethirial essence with soft or even white colors and end up looking like "OK good night everybody"
What in the world is going on here??
What if you are Cool and Radiant or a Dark Autumn type, and a Soft Natural (Beveled Soft) and dark neutrals are your best colors and pastels aren't so great for you? How can you avoid dark neutrals when that is in your color palette for your skin tone????? When you say avoid dark heavy neutrals do you mean "heavy fabric" in dark neutral? Thank you for this video!
Merriam,
I have not been able to find any information on what type a fleshy, rounded, apple-shape body would be? Any advice you can give would be appreciated! Thank you for this video!! 🤍
usually it's hard to determine body type from shapes like apple/pear etc. but in general if you're petite, fleshy, and apple shaped, you can be a rounded bone structure type (closest kibbe type romantic), especially if you lean petite. but really it's hard to say. fleshy in general means that you are a 'soft' type. like SC, SN, even SG or SD, or of course R or TR.
@@merriamstyle This is very helpful! I really appreciate your reply. Thank you for all the awesome videos...they are so informative! 🤍
It seems like there was a possible error on my full report but my email follow up went unanswered. What is the best way to clarify if this was an error or not?
Thanks for your patience with the timeline! What was the nature of the error, would you give me more details so I can find your email?
I love this video but I'm not sure Keira Knightly is a dramatic (even if she is kibbe verified) because she isn't very tall and she is a pear shaped woman who has just kept herself at a very low body weight for film work. She always accommodates her pear shape in trousers and skirts with an a-line cut and as she has a flat bust she either does a high neck or some other shape that isn't directing attention at her bust. I have seen her look great in tons of classic style dresses and also some gamine style short flippy floral skirts with black tights and flats.
🎉
"pretty much everything" 😂💀
Beveled/Natural always seems hard for me to grasp, while the other types seem much more exacting. Not sure why this is but it doesn't matter who I watch describing Naturals. It's like if you don't fit into the other types then you default to the Natural category, which doesn't feel very good.
Agreed
You choose to default yourself into beveled. If you are not convinced that you are beveled keep searching and experimenting. Often it takes time, and unfortunately money.
It took me quite awhile, but I finally got it right. It was worth the process because now I always look fantastic and I know why. I don't waste money on clothes that I never where, because I can now easily eliminate what's not going to work.
Good luck and make your journey fun!
@@Cekatu I should have only left the first sentence as my comment because that is really what I wanted to express and perhaps open up conversation. I am curious, which type did you choose?
Does anyone think that Emma Stone is a Classic? Georgia May Foote a Soft Classic?
Shimmer
i disagree jennifer morrison is 100% FN imo maybe classic essence tho :/ not even sure about that tbh
Some think you are in the classic family and not in the gamine
Black is just to heavy for her she's light.
Yeah, that's true. I'm soft dramatic and I look amazing in black because it suits my colouring. I actually look younger in black. Can you believe?!
I have to confess I feel Im a classic. However Ive gained weight, and if course, there are no classic clothes in my size. I look like a potato in everything.
I feel like you are biased towards Jenna Coleman’s 19th century look because you are the type yourself. It doesn’t look that bad to me, not even particularly off.
It’s just not the perfect gamine look but she looks absolutely fine in it even endearing.
We get biased after a while especially with our own types. We see it in exaggerated ways. ❤
I share Merriam’s opinion. She looked awful in that hairstyle, and she’s a STUNNING woman. I don’t know how they achieved that, tbf.
Respectfully disagree, I think she looks like she aged like 20 years or is dressing up like her mom in the Queen Victoria costume, she is a very pretty woman but she just looks so dowdy compared to how well she can look in her outfits/hairstyles that are much more suited for her
I realize those are not her lines but I still think she looks cute and I don’t see it as awful. It looks “ironically Victorian” to me, kind of in the gamine spirit. So I think it’s sweet. But to each respectfully their own.
It was everything about that look, not even only the hairstyle. The neutrals for the make up, the ivory top without any contrasting detailing, the delicate pearl earrings, and of course the hairstyle. All would be things that you'd consider of course are elegant, but on her, they didn't look that way.
@@merriamstyle Agreed! 💯✔️
kind of a glomesh look
I had this thought about a girl that looked perfect wearing a tight mini tank dress the other day
Its so simple and perfect and would be perfect for my low maintenence preference …but looks so awkward on me
You're amaziiiiing!!!!!!
