Picked this same watch up at a thrift store for 5 dollars. Needed a new battery and the pin on the side. It looked like the previous owner never wore it. I have a pretty large watch collection- some are pretty high end and valuable. But People comment on this watch more than any of my other watches. I believe it is because The gold plating is a good color and looks like real gold, some gold tone watches are so obviously not real gold looking, but this has a realistic color which is hard to see on video.After 4 years I got a small area worn off just like yours. I looked into getting it replated and the cost was ridiculous.
I own this same watch and it’s my favorite. The dial, color, fluted bezel and jubilee braclet makes this the best alternative to a Rolex Day Date presidential.
It has the faintest bit of luminescence still on the hour hand and the tips of the indices. The minute hand no longer glows at all. The only way to see it is in a pitch black room. But better than I expected considering this watch is 30+ years old.
Yes the gold tone has come off on the bracelet on the 12 o clock side and the clasp but not very noticeable while wearing. The case itself and the bracelet on the 6 o clock side are still just about completely intact.
Yes it does look like a SGF206 mine is a bit older circa 1990 or so. Yes the bracelet can be replaced with another 20mm bracelet or a leather band. The End link (the plate that covers the spring bar to the case) would have to be very similar on a metal bracelet or you might have a strange gap.
For a 5y23? The watch in this video is from the early 90s and bought used. I'm guessing based on the price you bought a new model. There currently is in production a SGF206 which looks quite similar and has a retail of around $300.
Yes they are called Bumbai specials. Entry level Seiko and Citizens that look like popular models will be faked and you can typically tell by a very colorful dial Neon blue, orange, green Etc. and the fact that watches from the 80-90s will be completely crisp. Watch out for them!
