how do you merge word docs if you are working on the online/cloud version of MS Word? I don't see the Object in the online version of word?
Thank you!
You are very welcome, thanks for watching!
@@SharonSmith It worked flawlessly. I believe that numbering the documents is the key to making this work. Thanks again so much. I have now subscribed. Please accept my super thanks for your efforts. I know it is a small amount, but best that I can do at this time. Super Thanks did not work. Will use paypal.
It was excellent and practical 😘😍🌹

If this is too much for you, I understand, apologize, and shall fade away.
This is a "text" merge. What happens if the word document contains pictures, tables etc? Many thanks for your help. Very clear and on the spot advice
Let me know if you find the solution. Thank you .
Anyone found a solution to this?

Thanks

Thanks for watching! I'm glad you found my video helpful!

Thank you for this video. Is there a way, outside of word, to consolidate a set of word documents into one? I basically want to select a bunch of documents and consolidate them in a stack, similar to printing a bunch of documents sequentially.
Thank you Sharon!
Can this be dynamic? i.e. when Document01 changes the new document gets updated.
Thank you. Would it be possible to merge part of another word document, and not all of it?
Thanks for the advice. Question: How about insert a part ( 3 pages form an 8 pages word) to a another word document?
great
Thanks for watching!
I like your videos!!
Let's say you have those 3 documents and have them as fillable forms. It there a way that you only have to fill one out and it will then fill out the other 2?
The reason is that I need all the information on 1 file, but only need some of those on another. And for the other documents I don't always need them, and some are double sided.
Currently I have them in just one document, but to print out what I want it's kinda of a hassle to try and remember which pages I need to print when I go to print them.
Having just 1 document fill out documents in other documents would be so much easier. Then I just select the window that has the document I want and print it.
Thanks!!!
Is there a page limit of what you can add? I have a document that 90+ pages that I need to add to a pretty big file, every time I try adding it, only the first page comes in.
Nice Sharon mam
Thanks for watching, Syed!!
@@SharonSmith mam please make unit cost calculation in excel how to calculate ?
JUST ONE WORD "'THANKS''
Glad to help! Thanks for watching!
this is absolutely helpful ms. sharon.. but one more thing.. is this working with different layouts? ex: main document portrait with default margin the other one that i want to insert is landscape with .5 margin can be this possible without manually tricking the page setup?
what if your other documents have different size margins and layout?
I would like to know how is possible to merge 2 docs in different languages, as one doc is the translated version, I need the each paragraph follow with the translated version.
You look so much like Tina Fey!!
Thanks, but was wondering if I could merge while keeping the formatting of the other document. For example, when I merged a table, the spacing (row spaces) seem to change!
Hello! Merging multiple Word documents while preserving the formatting, especially for elements like tables, can be challenging due to the way Word handles styles and formatting across documents. However, there are several methods to merge documents while retaining their original formatting as much as possible. Here are some effective approaches to try. I hope this helps!
Method 1: Using "Insert Object"
Open the Primary Document:
Open the document into which you want to merge other documents.
Insert Object:
Place the cursor where you want to insert the second document.
Go to the Insert tab.
Click on Object (found in the Text group).
Choose Text from File.
Select the Document:
In the dialog box, select the document you want to insert.
Click Insert.
This method usually retains the original formatting of the inserted document.
Method 2: Copy and Paste with "Keep Source Formatting"
Open Both Documents:
Open the document you want to copy from and the document you want to paste into.
Copy the Content:
Select the content (including tables) you want to copy from the source document.
Right-click and choose Copy (or press Ctrl + C).
Paste with Formatting:
In the destination document, place the cursor where you want to paste the content.
Right-click and choose Paste Special > Keep Source Formatting (or press Ctrl + V and then select the Keep Source Formatting option from the Paste Options that appear).
This ensures that the formatting from the source document is preserved.
Method 3: Use "Combine" Feature for Track Changes
Open Both Documents:
Open the primary document and ensure it is ready for merging.
Combine Documents:
Go to the Review tab.
Click on Compare and then select Combine.
Choose the documents you want to combine. You can add the second document to the primary one, and the combined document will show changes while keeping the formatting intact.
Method 4: Adjusting Table Styles Manually
Sometimes, even after merging documents using the above methods, table formatting may still need adjustment. Here’s how to fix it:
Select the Table:
Click on the table to select it.
Table Tools:
Go to the Table Tools Design and Layout tabs that appear.
Adjust Table Properties:
Use the Table Properties to adjust row spacing, cell margins, and other formatting details.
Manually adjust any specific formatting like borders, shading, and font styles to match the original document’s style.
Method 5: Create a Master Document
Create a New Document:
Open a new blank document to act as the master document.
Insert Documents as Subdocuments:
Go to the View tab.
Click on Outline.
In the Master Document group, click Show Document.
Click Insert and choose the documents you want to merge. Each document will be inserted as a subdocument, retaining its original formatting.
Best Practices
Consistent Styles: Ensure that styles (like headings, normal text, etc.) are consistent across documents to minimize formatting issues.
Check Compatibility: If documents are created with different versions of Word or different templates, check for compatibility issues that might affect formatting.
Manual Adjustments: Be prepared to make some manual adjustments after merging, especially for complex formatting elements like tables.
By following these methods, you should be able to merge multiple Word documents while retaining their original formatting as much as possible.
@@SharonSmith /Thank you so much for taking the time to write. I will check out what you have written sometime soon. Thanks again! I appreciate it. :)
I can't find "insert object". My Word files are in Google Docs. Can I still do this? Plus, I have LOTS of them to combine.
Great video. I was so happy to find it, but unfortunately when I hold down the Ctrl key, it does not allow me to select a second document. I tried Command, which is the usual key for selecting more than one document, but that didn't work either. I'm on a Mac, running MS 365, version 16.71, the latest update. Any idea why this isn't working? Seems very straightforward.
Same issue. Can't select more than one document.
I have 2 word files which have been edited separately. They also have had new comments added on both which are different. How can I merge these 2 documents without repeating their contents?
Is this possible?
Help! Every time I do this, it only carries over the first page of each document. As an example, if my document 2 has 10 pages, only page 1 carries over.
Nice! Hard to see on mobile though…
Thanks Joseph! I appreciate the feedback. I will have to zoom in more. 😉 Thanks for watching!
How do you merge two documents and keep the formatting of each document?
I want to know this also!
What about a document with footnotes?
Holding control does not let me pick more than file. Any ideas, anyone?
What if you have TWO formats and do not want change either one! =/ HELP!
how to merge page s into One File ?
But font and format get disturbed
Hello, In a tillable form, can we add rows in a table while the document is protected….
Hello - not if the entire document restricted to filling in forms, however you can restrict only parts of your document if you need to allow some items to be editable. Not sure if this will work for what you need to do, but here is a video on how to do that: th-cam.com/video/Xsh6Tk6xJB8/w-d-xo.html Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!
@@SharonSmith Thank you for your reply... Locking part of the document is something I will try.... However, my query was in a table I need a plus or add a row button to add employees handling a particular task, I created a table with three rows.... At times more than three employees are handling this task
Mines doesn’t say “insert object”. Where is that? It lets me insert everything else 🤷🏽♀️
doesnt work with docx with jpg files
When I say merge. I mean 2 similar documents and make them one. The edits that were done on one will show up and the additions will show up in one doc without it repeating. I am working on a dissertation while someone else has a copy and is editing. I kept working on it. I wished that I worked on it while IN google Docs then I would not have had this issue. She could have worked on it at the same time as me. Now I feel as if she did all that work for nothing or what I did was for nothing. I am trying to find the video that will merge similar docs. I can't seem to find a video on that.
This video may help you...it is how to compare two similar Word documents to identify the changes: th-cam.com/video/mA5iBmv5DYg/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps! Thanks for watching and good luck with your dissertation!

How do you zip files, my instructor wants me to zip my as S to her!!! 😬
Hello! If you are on a Windows PC, you can open your file explorer and select either the file folder, or the individual files that you want to Zip/Compress and then just right-click your mouse and select "Compress to Zip File" and that zipped file folder should save in that file location so you can email it. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos!
