An easier way to align the position of the mask with the line is to add a "Link" parameter behaviour to the masks x position. This way you can also employ non-linear motion which usually looks more natural. Great tutorial nonetheless :)

Hey Jenn! I took your course, got inspired, and thought I'd try out a little mask reveal action. I kept getting wrong - the mask was moving with the shape, and I was all, 'dam I've seen her do this before...' So I came back to reference this vid and sure enough, I didn't apply it to the group. Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. It's possible to apply a mask only on a single effect such as color or any other effect? I can't find the solution. thank you :)

This may be a silly question BUT, do you start this project as a title, or a generator or a motion project? Otherwise all steps nicely explained.

So many times I struggled with masks and got there through trial and error. You really made it make sense to me finally. Can't wait for your full Motion course to be ready.

hello Jen, on your first tutorial when I draw my first mask on my logo, I got a black mask visible hiding my logo and not your invisible grey mask ? have you an idea of my mistake ? thanks for your tutorials they are very clear, like these of Ripple Training (which drive me to yours). Hi Jenn, I'm encountering some problems with mask speed and the moving line in the 2nd tutorial. The mask begins the reveal behind the line and by the end it is ahead of the line thus revealing letters before the line reaches them. I'm wondering what is it that I'm not doing correctly? Would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.Wib

Hi, you probably have the keyframes at different “motion” settings, so you’re getting drift. Open the keyframe editor, and right click the keyframes on both your masks and text and make sure they’re all set to either ‘ease in’, ‘ease out’, ‘ease both’ or under interpolation ‘linear’. I think I go over this in the keyframe tutorial linked in the description if you need more detail.

Ok got stuck on how to change the blue. I'm a veteran After Effects guy. Have to stop the video, try to work out this fuzzy video. So pissed off before I even start.

Chris, I’m sorry you feel that way. It sounds like you could benefit from a more basic lesson in Apple
Motion. I’m definitely not just “babbling” here.

Perhaps you should offer a full refund for you FREE Video lesson. P.S. My keyboard has a space bar I can use to stop the video when I need more time to process a step.@@JennJagerPro
