Revealing Halbrand as Sauron was a dopey story move. Sauron is a Maiar, one of the original witnesses of Eru Ilúvatar's creation of Eä, right hand of Morgoth himself, a captain of evil higher than the Balrogs. Showing him as a hunky dude on a raft who ended up looking for blacksmith work in Númenor just completely misses the scale of the character. Tolkien never showed Sauron directly during LOTR, because it was better to leave him an unimaginable power beyond human comprehension. "Let's trick Galadriel into thinking he's a good guy" was such a dumb direction to take with him.
That's what did happen though. He took a form that was friendly and pleasing and befriended elves in order to serve his purpose which was the making of the Rings of power.
Even in the Peter Jackson movies Sauron was portrayed as an abstract evil, all seeing eye. He even cut the scene at the end where Sauron himself appears before the black gates to fight Aragorn because even that diminished his character.
I wish they would have just stuck to the lore. Galadriel was always suspicious of Sauron in his disguise as "Annatar, the Lord of Gifts" but Celebrimbor let him into Eregion because of his great skill. Sauron should have been portrayed as a Maia claiming to be from Valinor or who remained in Middle Earth after the War of Wrath, and the Elves debate who he really is and what his intentions are. The Elves of Middle Earth don't really have a two way communication link with Valinor at this time. Galadriel never trusts Annatar but there is never enough evidence to show that he is Sauron until it is too late.
Gil-galad and Elrond also didn't trust "Annatar". That was why he headed west to Eregion to give Celebrimbor a try, which worked better. But I can't see him taking the form of a Man instead of a Maia because the Elves were perfectly aware that there weren't any Men besides the Numenoreans who could come close to Elven craftsmanship. So "Halbrand" would be a suspicious character to Celebrimbor as well.
They also would never have trusted the rings "Annatar" made for them. This show got worse every episode. The only thing I remotely liked was seeing Numenor.
It’s a shame it was cancelled. Now we’ll never find out if Willow discovers the golden ticket to become a Lord of the Rings like he does in the original comic.

This was the show that created the new genre of billionaire fan fiction and this first entry wasn't a good one. A lot of this is on the head of Jar Jar Abrams for being the one to ensure J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay became showrunners of a project they weren't capable of handling. The only way Hollywood can top this is by rebooting the Godfather movies. The music was good though.
its a highly rated and good show when you look past sub chasing fake TV reviewing youtubers that feed off of click baits and gorilla anti-marketing. 90%of them have NO academic background in film, acting, literature. The ones of us that do, liked the show.

No, it is an invention of the show. It is a very cool prop, with its entertwined trees, one silver, one gold - but of course it could not be silver and gold, which are soft metals that wouldn’t work for a dagger. Even worse though, what the dagger *represents* is very much at odds with the lore. The idea is this: Finrod, Galadriel’s brother, swore to purse Sauron (“with hatred and vengeance”, one imagines), and when he is killed by Sauron Galadriel by taking his dagger symbolically takes Finrod’s mission upon herself, and becomes this obsessed, unreasonable warrior, focused on her mission of vengeance to the exclusion of everything else. But here’s the thing: Finrod is called the wisest and most noble of the Noldor race because while not balking at fighting he did *not* pursue anybody with hatred. He died *defending* his friend Beren. At the time, he was trying to avoid Sauron’s attention. His mission was one of friendship and loyalty, not of hatred and vengeance. When Sauron tries to uncover his identity he counters Sauron’s song with one “Of secrets kept, strength like a tower, And trust unbroken, freedom, escape; Of changing and of shifting shape, Of snares eluded, broken traps, The prison opening, the chain that snaps.” He dies because he loses his mighty kingdom to keep his oath to Beren’s father. He dies for *loyalty and friendship”. Alone, in the darkness, breaking the chain and killing the wolf that has come for Beren with his hands and teeth. Oddly enough this was definitely one of the better scenes…until they went back to the raft.

No, it is an invention of the show. It is a very cool prop, with its entertwined trees, one silver, one gold - but of course it could not be silver and gold, which are soft metals that wouldn’t work for a dagger. Even worse though, what the dagger *represents* is very much at odds with the lore.
The idea is this: Finrod, Galadriel’s brother, swore to purse Sauron (“with hatred and vengeance”, one imagines), and when he is killed by Sauron Galadriel by taking his dagger symbolically takes Finrod’s mission upon herself, and becomes this obsessed, unreasonable warrior, focused on her mission of vengeance to the exclusion of everything else.
But here’s the thing: Finrod is called the wisest and most noble of the Noldor race because while not balking at fighting he did *not* pursue anybody with hatred. He died *defending* his friend Beren. At the time, he was trying to avoid Sauron’s attention. His mission was one of friendship and loyalty, not of hatred and vengeance. When Sauron tries to uncover his identity he counters Sauron’s song with one “Of secrets kept, strength like a tower,
And trust unbroken, freedom, escape;
Of changing and of shifting shape,
Of snares eluded, broken traps,
The prison opening, the chain that snaps.”
He dies because he loses his mighty kingdom to keep his oath to Beren’s father. He dies for *loyalty and friendship”. Alone, in the darkness, breaking the chain and killing the wolf that has come for Beren with his hands and teeth.
So the whole thing of the spirit of revenge being passed from brother to sister and renounced when they melt the dagger is precisely the opposite of what Finrod was all about.

As a fan of Lotr who doesn’t read or see any of the comics just the movies, I actually love this series like 8/10 but there are you guys who see the comics criticizing this series like you guys knows better..,shame!
There are no comics, it is all based on a series of books.
I actually like this scene, sure it's not cannon, but it's well acted and at least for RoP, well written compared to some of the dialog.

I found it hilarious that this was the only good scene in the show. This show's potential can ascend LOTR by so much based on the writings from the show yet they chose 10% of the lore which created a show that everyone hoped to be good to turn into woke garbage. How do you fuck up this hard with the material that is available and still create this is incredible.
